Spartan ops has just been getting better and better. I just played it solo today and I enjoyed it even more than firefight and a lot more than online. Can’t wait to see the new maps they put in for next time!
no idea how this thread disappeared so quickly so im gonna keep it alive
Definitely Episode 5. Palmer finally shut up, the writing was more enjoyable and less repetitive/annoying, bickering between Roland and Miller was much better than Palmer V Miller, ended with a cliffhanger that left us hanging, To Galaxy was finally heard in the actual game, greater variety in situations, and all-around a great improvement from the previous Episodes. Also had the most interesting CGI sequence so far, with much more plot developments.
Though Episode 3’s Mantis firefight nearly takes the cake.
You have a good point I think imma go play it once more now that i’m the only one at home so I can enjoy it more.
Ep 5 by far!
The cliffhanger ending was great.
All I could think of when I saw that was when Palmer said “That’s not a fair fight, it’s gonna take more to beat Crimson”
Episode 5 was great! But personally, I loved episode 4 the most so far.

Play shootout on valhalla solo on legendary. If at some point you die it’ll take a lot, and I mean A LOT of tries to make it back to the mantis spawn point without the frg elites, grunts, hunters, and banshee bombs stopping you. Co-op play is just as bad as everyone shoots each others’ Mantis. Though the story and acting in episode 5 is better by far than the rest of the episodes, the combat is still unsatisfying.

The first two chapters featuring Prometheans were unpleasant as usual but the ones with the Covies were so much better than previous chapters.
Notice that cruiser above you then think back to when you were on Valhalla and it was barely visible in the sky. MUCH MORE SCALE. There’s even a game changing easter egg (gravity hammers) and you get to use the Mantis more appropriately (no Banshee spam thank goodness!). There’s also a surprise from cloaked Elites.
For me,
It was a tie between the Mantis battle and beating down Hunters with “Sports Equipment.”

Episode 3. Shootout in Valhalla? Most amazing experience I had in Spartan Ops. Not to mention the hunt for Vol (even though it was just an Elite General) was intense. I was actually able to use some stealth tactics in this Episode and take out enemies unnoticed and by surprise.
I did it solo, so it felt like they sent me as an assassin to eliminate Vol.
Feels good.
Shootout in Valhalla was like, Amazing
And the last Episode/Mission with the hunters, Fun as hell

Personally, I would have liked Shootout in Valhalla more if it hadn’t had the last section where you had to fight wave after wave of Banshee’s that did nothing but crash into walls, and Phantoms that took at least five minutes a time to shoot down.
That final section was the most repetitive, uninspiring and generally dull game-play experienced in Spartan Ops so far and I hope they don’t do something like that again.
As for the most recent mission, when the guy says “You let them die” I wanted to throw my controller at him because the scientists did nothing but walk into the enemies whenever they came close. Also two “Defend this item” sequences with no consequence of failure? Give me a break. -.-
However, I have to agree that being chased down by six Hunters was a pretty fun experience, and I enjoy the Covenant based sections more anyway. The Promethean sections are not fun because they just throw a ludicrous amount of Watchers at you, couple that with the sometimes awkward spawning system and you’re often dead far to quickly.
Story wise I think it’s got to be Episode 5 for me; that cliffhanger nearly had me throwing the controller at the screen. But it was great story set up. For action, episode 3 Vallaha/Ragnorock. In the Mantis, you vs the entire convenent…played it co-op with a mate on legendary I think I died about 80 times it was mad!
To be honest, neither of them…wait the one you had to save the squad of marines. BUT overall they need to make Spartan Ops more interesting, 343 has so much potential, but not using it! For example, add medals popping out when you kill something like in previous Firefights! That would keep me going; just right now Spartan Ops is kind of bland

*Atrocious
On Co-op, I guess it’s engaging (unless you encounter enemy outside the level bs).
But on Solo, it’s a nightmare. It lacks scale (enemy numbers aren’t even close to CE’s potential numbers. Also, that ship in the distance is barely noticeable). And it’s lazy (instead of encouraging map movement, it’s simply going back and forth). Ragnarok was not used to it’s full potential. Throwing in some marines would have made it more tolerable not to mention give me feelings of nostalgia but it wouldn’t have been enough to save this death trap of a mission.

Oh my Jesus, this! This is 100% spot on.
On the bright side, if you manage to kill a single Knight, the Watchers will try to resurrect him one at a time. Too bad it’s nearly impossible to take advantage of this when there’s 9 other Watchers shooting at you.
