Since 343i has taken the mantle of Halo, we haven’t seen much ODST action,Only in books, So I ask. What is the fate of the ODST’s?
They’re still around, just 343’s narrative is focused on infinity which primarily uses Spartans.
Narratively S-IV’s and ODST’s also kind of overlap.
They still exist, but, ODSTs are being augmented into Spartans.

ODST was the best of the Halo games IMO. It was great because there were no Spartans and no Elites (only dead ones).
Errr you do realize how obsolete ODSTs are right? I mean I’m not knocking their badassness but literally every generation of spartans is better than them and Spartan-lVs are a lot more easier to mass produce not to mention many ODSTs become Spartan-IVs, really making ODST a stepping stone to Spartan kinda like Army infantry to spec-op.
I believe lore wise that the ODST numbers severely outnumber the Spartan 4 numbers. Even though it is big, there is only one Infinity which holds majority of the 4s while there are so many worlds that most likely have many ODSTs ready to fight
This has been bugging me for a while, and its probably them pushing the S-IVs into the Halo universe, they seem hell bent on retiring the Chief right now.
As far as we know there are only a few hundred Spartan IVs currently operational, with the best estimate on Halopedia being 300-500. Their facility can only handle a couple dozen for the augmentations at a time so there can’t be too many yet.
This being said remember what Ackerson told Kurt when he recruited him? “Perhaps a hundred thousand new Spartans will be created in thirty years.” Leaving 343 and their Spartan IVs aside, from any canon point of view it would make perfect sense to create as many as you can. I’m not sure if there would be a place in the universe for unaugmented soldiers anymore. Against races like the Brutes and Elites regular human soldiers are completely outclassed physically and equipment wise. So either we would have an augmented Marine Corps and Army, with the Spartans still being a small elite force with better training and equipment, the Navy and Air Force don’t really need augments, or we would have an all Spartan defence force, which would negate the need for any other combat troops other than maybe some security personnel and support troops.
I guess we’ll never get that gritty, fight for your life awesomeness of being an ODST again. Bungie hyped them HARD and for good reason, they were so freakin COOL.
It could just be me on this, but I LOVE the idea of using inferior tech and still kicking butt. (A reason why I love Spartan III’s)

The ODSTs are still around just because we don’t see them doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Plus ODSTs appeared in Hunt the Truth season 2 which is pretty recent.

No, they are two separate Special Operations Forces. ODSTs are non-augmented Marine Corps Operators, while Spartan-IVs are augmented operators who are under the Spartan Branch. ODSTs may apply to be Spartans, but Spartan Branch also draws from other non-ODST special operation forces from the Navy, Army, Air Force, and Marine Corps. When an ODST becomes a Spartan he is no longer an ODST.

What should’ve happened is instead of calling the new program Spartan IV, they could’ve given it a different name and made it available to all ODSTs, but ODSTs only. They would keep the ODST color scheme, upgrade their armor, and train them the same as the SIVs.
