I hope someday he gets a chance to talk about all the misery he’s been put through. (I’m going to remain vague about that part…) Without a doubt, he contributed the most to Halo Infinite’s strengths. I think he, out of everybody working on it, understood what Halo was about and I’m sad to see him go.
It’s either one of two things.
- the story is lined up and in place that 343 just needs to develop it and Joe doesn’t really need to be there.
Or
- infinite has not performed and Microsoft has no intention of investing further resources into the company.
If this is the case, you’ll soon hear of a reorg at 343.
Guess we’ll see.
I see it being both 1 and 2
Also i don’t blame him for leaving
343 always threw him into the wolves whenever 343 had bad news
I’m guessing 2, but still this was unexpected. I believe they’re sitting on unfinished campaign, feels like much was cut to ship the product sooner rather than intentionally for DLC.
Aint this a -itch. Joe was OG Bungie things look like they are not going to go well down the road. I assume Season 3 content will be Infinites last and no Campaign DLC with the layoffs taking place. ={
I more or less think he is holding back some truths to protect some of company coworkers. He definitely shouldn’t reveal what he faces in fact. But if their actually higherups know, its their job to correct those problems. As the community we probably can guess and don’t really need official confirmation to know.
Oh he most certainly holding things back as he was always put into the wolves den whenever they had bad news when he was in board
Well if you believe sean w, apparently theyve cut season 4, and if thats the case, stick a fork in it.
Well, I guess this is it for Halo. Without Joseph Staten, the franchise would no longer be the same. It might just end up like Halo 4 & 5.
He’s transferring to Microsoft Publishing? That’s a shame. I would hope he went to Certain Affinity with the other ex-Bungie devs, but I guess not. I wonder what the future of Halo will look like now
So you’re saying you’re happy he’s gone? Because that’s what your writing implied.
I really hope it’s this. I’m not optimistic but we can dream.
At the end of the day his arrival was always termed to be a temporary thing, so this isn’t entirely unexpected but combined with all the other layoffs this doesn’t inspire confidence.
However it ends, many thanks to Joe for his work over the last couple of years.
You could see it in his face he looked tired and stressed out but he kept it professional and smiled. What a legend.
It felt like a world a war 2 fireside chat where the world was on fire but president Staten was telling halo fans things are bad but were going to get better.
I’ve mentioned this before, I don’t believe Joe Staten was brought in initially for the reasons people think, and I feel this just asserts it.
Over 2 years, what has been achieved? The shop works really well. That’s about it. I believe this was his primary goal. He wasn’t steering anything anywhere, or maybe couldn’t. They needed a face / spokesperson.
Broken game is broken. They’ll get what they can with what’s left. Time for Joe to move on.
I guess we’ll see what happens.
And so the next domino falls. The next step on the great journey from 343 Industries to Studio 117 has been made.
Hopefully Joseph has not been removed from Halo itself, but rather Microsoft is moving development rights to a new studio that Joseph will be putting together in order to begin picking up the pieces of this decade-long parade of false-promises and deception.
Joseph was one of the main reasons why Halo 2 had such great moments.
Can’t wait to see what he does next.
I feel like all the speculation at this stage is unhelpful. 343 will communicate their new strategy in due course and Joe Staten alone, while very important, is only one man.
Right now there is a much bigger story of dozens of 343 employees (along with 10k other MS employees) losing their livelihoods
He has finally escaped 343’s clutches! Huzzah!
