Falling Without Parachutes

Just a simple idea. You don’t see much of these on the forum…
Okay, so most games have fall damage. Halo is the wonderful exception, at least for Halo 2 and 3. I actually like that about Halo. Games like Battlefield implement parachutes to help with the large scale of there maps. Obviously I’m not saying to add parachutes to halo. I just can’t imagine them to be honest. But on topic…

This is nothing game breaking at all about this idea which is what I like. Just a hint of some depth. When the game some how senses a spartan falling from a great height I think some small red text should flash somewhere on the HUD saying “GEL LAYER ACTIVATED” followed by some noise similar to something getting inflated, and maybe something that surrounds the HUD that represents the gel would appear. Maybe even followed by an audio cue from your own personal AI (if we had AI). According to what gel layer actually does, it would lock up your armor, but for this case we should just ignore that fact and allow you to move freely in mid air as not to hinder gameplay if you catch my drift.

One final thought. When your spartan hits the ground in Halo 3 it sounds like a small stone hit the ground. In this game it needs to sound like a 1000 pound power suit of spartan destruction just -Yoink!-ed the ground. I’d like to see some slight denting or markings where my player landed. Just adding a bit of depth.

TL;DR
It should say “GEL LAYER ACTIVATED” on your HUD somewhere when falling from great distances followed by a cool sound effect to reflect so, to add depth, but gameplay and movement should not be affected. Impacting the ground should also seem and sound more devastating than past Halo games.**
Good idea?

I like it, I think it would be pretty cool, Chief fell from space and survived, also I wanted to mention that i saw a spartan training op in the Graphic novel I forget which one, but it was parachute I think your idea would be way cooler and more immersive, but I could see it, being in the back of a falcon or hornet or whatev and engaging it half way down. I could see a benefit from it for people on the ground they could see your parachute open and move on your position.

What if they had both? nah that would be to much like section 8 hard drop or soft drop. i see great game play strategies with both

Something to that effect might be cool. And I think they mentioned that they are making the sounds actually sound like you are wearing super heavy armor.
