Fall of Reach should be in Standard Edition

I understand that they’re using the animated series as a selling point for the more expensive versions of the game. But my biggest fear is that they’re using this series as the sole backstory for Blue Team’s history and background.
Most people are going to buy the standard edition. People who don’t know much about Halo lore, if at all, are going to buy the standard edition. Only Halo super-fans buy the deluxe and collector’s editions. These people already know Blue Team’s backstory.
The series should be there for newcomers to understand the context of the game they’re playing. The purpose of backstory should be to educate people new to the franchise, over catering to franchise veterans who know the story already.
I cringe at the idea of newcomers booting up the game, starting it up, and being like “Who the heck is Blue Team, who are these people?” and MAYBE having a slightly better idea by the end of the game. With only hints as to the history they all have with Chief. You can only tell so much story in an FPS.
This animated series is more than fan-service, it’s an essential narrative plot that ties into Halo 5: Guardians, which is going to be held back from over 90% of the people who play the game. It’s not right in my opinion.

I get what you’re saying but 343I have got to recover costs of making it somehow. I believe it’s also coming on DVD/Blu Ray so anyone who gets the standard edition and is interested in the full back story afterwards can purchase it.

I know. We’re already getting a wealth of content for $60. It just sucks that crucial backstory is behind another paywall. Business is business though, 343 can’t keep making games without making a profit

And it’s not as if this series is the only place someone can go for backstory. I think 343 will layer it in as the halo 5 story progresses or not having that knowledge isn’t going to stop them following the story.

I think a bigger concern is the extended universe stuff, how much is that going to be needed?

Yeah, I’m just getting the digital standard, because digital deluxe is a rip off. I’d like to watch it right away, but that won’t happen. I’m most likely just going to torrent it or something.

The book is ancient history though, as good as it may be. I hope they do layer it in like you say, rather than have it be “well we covered all the backstory in the animated series, so it’s business as usual”
The opening blue team cinematic where Fred references boot camp is an encouraging sign. And the fact that there’s wayyy more dialogue in this game than past ones is another good sign. Hopefully they do layer it in. I have faith in 343’s storytelling ability

If it’s anime, then no thanks.

I’m pretty sure it’ll be available for purchase through Halo Channel just like Nightfall and Forward Unto Dawn.

With 117 ingame Intel items, I’m sure there will be enough back story covered.

It’s coming to halo channel later on BUT obviously they’ll expect you to buy it there like they did with Nightfall (for people who didn’t get MCC).

cough**CoughHalo 4cough Cough

To be honest those who cant be asked to look up Blue teams back story, or read the book can just buy it when it comes out on DVD. Its included in the other editions because those who buy the other editions (Apart from those who have the money just lying around) are the ones who mostly likely read the book in the first place.

The series is meant to act as fan service to the people most dedicated to the story but It is also there to educate the fans who don’t know the story, if they want to know it all they have to do is just buy the DVD. There’s probably a lot of backstory told In the game anyway so I doubt many people will really miss out.

Yeah well, if people really want to know about more Halo lore, then they should be prepared to buy books, comics and PAY people for the content theyve created… I mean theres free wikis to read if people dont wanna pay for stuff. i kinda understand what OP is getting at… but c’mon, its took easily a year and lots of money to make that Cartoon… you pay £40 for a game… You arent paying £40 for a game plus a cartoon… we are getting free maps for the first time ffs… Some people love pushing thier luck haha

hmm I’ll just wait till it’s on yt…

Check out The Fall of Reach from your local library. A free and amazing way of learning about the story.

I don’t disagree with you but your argument is flawed imo. Casuals will boot up the game and also question Osiris teams background, does that mean they should give away escalation as well. Several characters are explored only in the other lore so I’m sure they will brush over who these people are. Remember they state all the team that when making the game they need to appeal to hardcore fans as well as new ones. This most likely means you will get a compressed version of the characters/teams for the new fans and the collectible Intel will expand on the hardcore fan knowledge.

People are going to look up blue team…i bet fall of reach will be on youtube. I think your mad thats its not in the standard. Ill be watching it on youtube like everybody else. Or wait till its on torrent

We all know it’ll be up on youtube in the NEAR future so I’m not terribly worried about it lol

pft if anyone knows their way around a computer can find alternate places to watch it without giving some random youtuber money.

All the more reason to have an in game codex if you ask me. I know it would be a lot of work but I think it would be worth it.
