Fake low levels

Remember when people would get a new gamer tag and run the ranks as a “new” player and kick everyone’s butt… I think it’s happening again… lvl 3’s and 4’s are running the matches, lol

Smurfs… This problem has been going on for the past 2 years thanks to the “share gold” feature by Microsoft. Nice feature but it’s been exploited.

Smurfs? Yeah they are annoying for new players when I 1st started Halo 5 I was constantly getting my butt kicked by smurf accounts

343 could easily fix it by blockingg ranked to silver accounts but you know…
I was reading the forums for Overwatch and people are complaining about smurfing there too. i didn’t look at the PS4 forums but i see complaints on the Xbox Overwatch forums with smurfs.

Just because somebody has a low SR and is performing well does not make him a smurf. I have a secondary account with which I could get K/D ratios of 2 at SR6, and that is because my main account is SR 137 last I checked. However, I only use my secondary when I am having a bad day or want to try a new controller layout. The distinguishing factor is whether or not the player evidently tossed his ten placement matches to get a low CSR.

If somebody has a low SR and a high CSR, that is a good sign of a responsible player using a secondary account. If he has a low CSR, a low SR, and an extremely high KDA (like, 10+), then he is probably a smurf. However, if you encounter a player with a low SR and a high KDA, you should check to see if he had a high CSR as well before you start labeling people.

With all of this said, smurfing is a very real problem, and as a Platinum player I have fallen victim to much more skilled players doing so to destroy the competition. Just give your opponents the benefit of the doubt unless all of the evidence screams otherwise.

I don’t get why ranking needs to be reset every season. What’s the point of the placement matches? I’m not very good at Halo and when I get my usual rank of silver I am constantly placed in matches with ‘unranked’ players who are clearly of a very high skill level meaning the game is over too quickly. Expanded or focused matchmaking doesn’t filter out unranked players so I can’t avoid them.
I wish the ranking would remain fixed each season, and also apply across all formats of the game FFA, team slayer etc.

Yeah, the seasons should keep same ranks, but if you don’t play for about a month or two you should have to redo some placements maybe. But smurfing is kind of lame, but honestly the best way to get better is by playing better people and learning what they do and from your mistakes. It’s really rough but it can be beneficial. Overwatch (tries) to counter it by forcing you to level 25 first, siege makes it to level 20 first.

Wow, this is the first time I see someone giving this advice. This would remove smurfs for a large part. Hope 343 reads this.

A bit off topic, but if you want to get better at Arena playlists there are some YouTubers who have pretty good tutorials on strafing, gun placement, map awareness et cetera. The YouTubers I watch: Proximitty, Vetoed and Luke TheNotable.

Other tips I can give you:

  • Maybe lower your sensitivity. I see your accuracy on most guns is pretty low: 20’s and 30’s. Most pros play (from what I heard) on 3-5 sensitivity. Proximitty even plays on 2. I started out at 1 sensitivity and play now on 2. Don’t know if I will ever try 3.
  • Try thumbstick extentions. I.m.o. they help a LOT with aiming. There are a few companies that make them, but I think Kontrol Freek is the one that makes the most. They’re not super cheap: somewhere between 10 and 20 dollars for a set of 2 thumbsticks, but at least they fit right and they give a lot of choices (concave, convex, high, medium, low…). If I could only buy one pair I would go with the Vortex (orange) ones. But it is all subjective. There are companies that sell thumbstick extentions for about 2 dollars, but I read a lot of reviews that they fell off easy from your thumbsticks.
  • Switch to Helljumper button layout. It is arguably the best pre-made button layout because jump, zoom and crouch are all placed on buttons so that you don’t need to take your thumbs off the thumbsticks. It’s weird the first few games, but hey… 1 step backwards and 3 steps forward is worth it i.m.o. If you own an elite controller it is best to put crouching on one of your paddles.

Good luck!

There technically arent silver accounts on xbox one. If one profile on your console has gold all of them have it. Its microsoft’s decision and 343, or any other dev for that matter, cant get around it.

It’s not a new thing and has happened in prior games before.
