Out of everything that 343 has changed when it comes to halo, they left out a big chunk of what really made the game. They truly screwed up forge by not doing anything new. The rest of the game is amazing, but in one aspect that made the game infinitly replayable, they screwed the pooch.
The first, most notable aspect, was the pallet they gave us to use. While they added a few new pieces for each “blank” map, they completely recycled halo reach’s building pallet. Because of this, players are now greeted to the exact same feel as the older game with some minor new changes. I understand you can not create a brand new pallet, but give us a few more options here than just giving the old one a new look.
Speaking of looks, the new color scheme, in my opinion, is terrible. Halo Reach was definitely not a looker. The games forge had a few problems but number one was most obviously the color scheme. Halo 4 expanded upon that dead, creative killing look. Instead of giving us a colorful array of colors to play with, or at least giving us the ability to change object color, they gave us a completely tan, unappealing look. This new pallet color makes Halo Reach look like a wonderland. With the new changes they made, if they had given color to the pieces, the new maps would look amazing. The pieces themselves are very well detailed but that doesnt make up for the absense of color. If I crap out a turd, it will be a detailed turd but still a turd in essense.
I personally believe these two major issues make forge more of a failure than a success. The changes that were made were nice, a bigger budget, less framerate issues and nice maps to build on but without color and new pieces to play with, we are left with an unfinished product. Let me know what you think, am I correct or forge a huge success and spiritual successor?
