The weekly update has made it clear, once again, that 343i is out of touch with the mechanics of this game.
When it comes to precision weapons, they’re considering altering damage tables and fire rates. The most likely outcome here is a DMR with a reduced fire rate and a four shot BR. Neither will fix the real problem with precision weapons.
All of the precision weapons aim for you. Aim assist is absurdly high - go back and play a match of Halo 3 and you’ll understand. The BR should be more forgiving of unsteady aim than the DMR, but that isn’t the case solely because both weapons aim for you. If given lower amounts of aim assistance, the BR would be a bit more forgiving because of its burst fire - a poorly placed shot doesn’t necessarily preclude damage like it does with the DMR.
The other issue (which 343i already stated they wouldn’t fix) is the lack of descope. If this was in the game, using the DMR on any of the other precision weapons at range would take a fair amount of skill (unlike now, where the gun aims for you) due to the constant barrage of shots.
The DMR doesn’t need a higher kill time. Kill times in Halo 4 are already higher than any previous game in the series. The issue is that the aiming mechanics (and map design - and everything else) are poor. As of now, strafing is extremely ineffective because of the large amount of aim assist.
BR is 4 shot. DMR should shoot a tiny bit slower. your entire BR and DMR argument imo is baseless and/or wrong
Bro do you even bulletin?
> Is the TU weapon manipulation focused solely on damage and rate of fire or are there more variables that can be changed: Aim assist, bullet magnetism, bloom, spread, recoil, etc.?

Battle Rifle isn’t a four shot, it’s a five shot. If you don’t even know BASIC details like that you shouldn’t be discussing the balance of the game.
BR isn’t four shot, nor has it ever been in Halo 4.
How is the argument baseless? It is an absolute fact that bullet magnetism and sticky aim are considerably higher in Halo 4 than in any previous installment. Slowing down the rate of fire will do absolutely nothing to fix this issue. The problem with ALL of the precision weapons isn’t that they’re overpowered, it is that they’re incredibly easy to use and the skill gap has been destroyed because they largely aim for you.
No, I didn’t see the mention of auto-aim. They definitely don’t need to reduce accuracy on any of the weapons. The BR and unscoped Light Rifle could use an accuracy boost. I can see a drop in accuracy as one of their first attempts to “fix” things, because they do seem to have a “random = good” mentality.
I’ve noticed alot of this community seems to make baseless assumptions. They mention some of the things they are looking at but omit a specific thing you were expecting, must mean they won’t look at it at all.
Also where does that bit about the dmr getting a higher kill time come from? Just wondering…
I also think the aim assist on the dmr is too high, but I’ll wait until they release a full change list before I go posting about anything relating to it.
The aim assist on all of the weapons is too high. The DMR’s aim assist is just a lot of trouble because it covers an absurd range before it stops. My irritation came from this:
> Our goal of the upcoming balance update is to create an even balance across all precision rifles (DMR, Battle Rifle, Carbine and LightRifle). Our latest tests have included (but are not limited to) rate of fire and damage tweaks to several weapons within this category. Additionally, it is important to create balance amongst all primary weapons, which leads into the next category.
Now, this doesn’t preclude a drop in aim assist, but it doesn’t really suggest it as a top priority either. That said, I did miss “but are not limited to,” so that’s my fault.
Also, lowering damage and rate of fire increases kill time. That’s where they mentioned it.
FFS they only need to change the DMR, dont mess with the other weapons… and when they mentioned the automatics I hope they nerf the AR range. It is quite OP for so little skill needed. The other automatics are fine.
Op is right that all the precision weapons aim for you. All you have to do to prove that is watch what other players do when you’re in a 1v1 fight with them. I always notice that players will just copy your strafe. Basically they keep their reticle in the same place, and aim by moving around with the left analog.

heh. well so it is. explains why i havent played this game since launch month, and only came back to try these horrific maps.
