I have been enlightened beyond measures

Cool deal. Doesn’t affet me much, and I am FOR SURE getting an X1

Oh, wow. A lot of information here that actually shifts my opinion a bit.

Might as well get the big thing out of the way first…; I can’t be the only one that is this excited for the Circle!? That’s awesome! I know myself and my friends will get a ton of use out of that. The ability to not only have 10 people that can play any game in your library at any time, but much to my surprise and delight, you can even play the same game at the same time as one of your friends! That’s unreal!

Seeing as how I do have a solid internet connection and no plans to pirate games for the Xbox One, I have no real issue with the DRM and am looking forward to the new features they can implement with it. And if being forced to connect once a day is the only real drawback to this great Circle idea, I’m all in.

All accounts act as Gold accounts as long as one account on the Xbox is Gold? Finally, my friends can play Halo without changing my invert to default and my sensitivity to half a million.

Earlier this morning X1 was in first place on Amazon, still early in the game however.

The PS4 also have 5 versions available, each in the top 10, with all of the Launch Day versions sold out. Amazon pre-orders mean nothing when there is no money put down on them.

Yep. I liked to hear that I can set the Kinect to be “paused” or whatever and edit what it can hear so it doesn’t seem like my Xbox is stalking me. I still kinda don’t like how it always has to be hooked up to the Xbox, regardless if you’re using it or not.

As for the DRM, I’d really like if they actually made it to where you can still play games offline, but you need the disk. And then when you’re online you can play through the hard drive and stuff. If all these things can be implemented, then I will be on the side of the Xbox One for sure.

That would be fair

Fair but it seems (from Major Nelson’s curious response to a question about just this sort of thing in a recent interview) that Microsoft already considered it. It might seem easy to say “Hey, if the disc is in there let me play offline!” as a side-step around online DRM but I don’t think the point of these requirements is DRM. Already there are two games so far (Forza 5, Titanfall) that are using cloud computing for their AI and doubtless other developers will find other applications beyond hosting multiplayer games and game content (which is all XBL is really good for now).

Playing offline may therefore be (for these games if at all possible) a relatively crappy experience because certain core mechanics (ex. the AI) are going to be built with cloud resources in mind. And as the host of said experiences Microsoft may not want people spending too much time with that, both for their own sake and for the sake of developers who might feel that they would have to scale back on their awesome new cloud features to accommodate the troublesome offline demographic if that was allowed to exist on the new console.

I think THAT is the reason why we have online check ins. Not DRM (Microsoft already has that down pat with current XBLA and GoD games) but to provide the best possible population demographic for developers to work with.

^^^ THIS. Microsoft is in it for the long run and years to come. Eventually most of gaming will be online anyways. The X1 may have some restrictions, but the things it is able to do far outweigh those IMO. I will not be getting a playstation.
