So what does waypoint community think of the “new” faction backgrounds?
For example, the prometheans that apparently were there all the time and just not encountered before on all the Halo rings, shield world (in Halo Wars for one) and so on.
Other example is Banished that again, supposedly were there all the time and there were not even a mention about them even though covenant supposedly was in conflict with them. Not even during Arbiter missions in Halo 2 where covenant species spoke english and were friendly.
In the case of banished at least they could have been one of the aftermaths from the fall of the covenant and the great schism.
Prometheans being absent from the rings make sense, seeing as they’re Builder installations rather than Warrior-Servants, but I’m not sure about the Shield World from Halo Wars. However, it doesn’t explain why we’re finding so many Forerunner sites with Prometheans now, especially on places like Genesis and the Ark.
As for the Banished, I agree that they have appeared from nowhere. There is a vague mention of some threat other than humanity by Regret in Wars, but no specific mention of the Banished. I think you’re idea about having them arise from the Great Schism makes more sense though.
Weren’t the Banished formed after the human/covenant war or some time during the later years of that war at least. The Banished is actually my favourite faction I think.
As for Prometheans they were asleep until H4, right?
So as far as the lore behind the creation of these factions I’m totally fine with. Prometheans are a bit boring to fight so I hope they get an overhaul for Infinite. As for the Banished I absolutely loved them in HW2 and can’t wait to fight them in an FPS.

For Genesis, the simplest answer would be that Cortana brought them there. We only get to the planet after Cortana had already been there for an undefined amount of time.
Or, perhaps they existed on Genesis to help guard the Domain alongside the Warden.

That would make sense. It does seem weird that the Banished just kind of came out of no where. I would have loved to see or read something about Tartarus and Atriox squaring off or fighting for power. That would have been an insane grudge match. Regardless, I really enjoy the Banished and Atriox. I’d love to learn more about how they came to be and where exactly they fit in the story line of the Halo Universe.

The banished were formed during human covenant war though they definitely got a boost for their operational strength when covenant fell.
And prometheans definitely were “asleep” before H4 but the interesting part is that there werent any traces of them. Not a single wreck of those robotic prometheans like the crawlers (from the forerunner flood war which was rather large conflict), not a single “sleeping” unit, nothing.
The wrecks could have been cleaned and reused but the “sleeping” robotic units would have had to be somewhere.
And one would think that such units would have been utilized on flood outbreaks, such as on delta Halo, given they were made to combat the flood and one could think that the robotic prometheans at least would be as widespread as the flood battlefields during forerunner flood wars leaving occasional stragglers for example across the former forerunner empire.
But good questions.

The banished so far seems like a good faction, definitely. But their background story just doesnt make sense to me. And neither does that as to why such background was chosen to be the one to be official.

We’ll see what happens in the future. Who knows, maybe they’ll show up and force their way into the store of Halo Infinite

Prometheans weren’t asleep before Halo 4. In Hunters in the Dark, they fight some Promethean soldiers, though they’re referred to as ‘armigers’ in the book.

Hunters in the Dark did mention the Ark had armigers on it, so its not improbable that Prometheans would be on Genesis too. They’re just a subtype of Sentinel after all. I think.
I thought all remaining Promethean’s were locked up on Requiem with the Didact when he was put to sleep? I find the banished funny as the whole idea was that truth wanted the brutes to take over for being more loyal, yet the second biggest threat to his power was brute based.
The prometheans should feel more forerunner-like and less orange robot monster-like, but other than that I can accept that they weren’t widespread around the galaxy or ark before Halo 4, since they are warrior-servants and they didn’t have anyone to serve until the Didact came back to power and then Cortana subsequently. There would be no wide-spread coordination among them prior to Halo 4 since there’s no one to lead them, so I think it’s feasible that there could be very few stragglers and what not on the Ark, which were encountered by the squad sent there in Hunters in the Dark.
As for the Banished, I think they are an intergal part of the franchise now, just as the Covenant was. I love the potential they hold as an enemy for future games, as they are quite unique in their goal and strength.
