I was immeasurably disappointed playable elites did not make a return in halo 4. I was praying for not only the elites but playable brutes and promethian knights as well. And I’m talking about much more than a simple aesthetic difference. I want considerable gameplay differences.
Each of the four would have significantly different gameplay properties with all sorts of advantages and disadvantages along with access to totally different guns, AAs, perks and gear. You would pick the faction you like best and this is who you would enter matchmaking as! Imagine these four great warrior, all battling it out, man I wish it were so.
Maybe as a special Invasion/Dominion gametype, but certainly not as matchmaking.

(surprised) huh? No no I mean for all of matchmaking. Each player can pick their favorite warrior. It would add much to strategy and gameplay as player got better with their selection and make halo considerable more fun! Each one could have their own storyline as well, like elite ops and brute ops!

At that point Halo ceases to be Halo. As a special game mode, yes. But as the end all be all of matchmaking? No, it is far too random. Elites and Spartans with the same hitboxes and abilities works for me.
I have to agree with DeceptionCobra on this one. Having different species with different abilities/advantages/disadvantages works in special gametypes like Invasion, but for run of the mill matchmaking (ie : everything asides from Invasion), let’s stick to a game where people are equal, shall we? After all, Halo has always been about balance and equality… Well… Until Halo 4, anyway…

You know, I just yesterday wrote in a post about how when Halo 2 came out and Elites were first available in multiplayer, I talked with my friends about how cool it would be to play as Hunters, Grunts, etc. Then in the post, I talked about how horrible of an idea that was – the idea that we had nearly nine years ago.
And as I said, it sounds cool in writing, but would suck in actual gameplay.

Beginning to sound more like an RPG than anything else. Will you be a woodelf for their increased archery accuracy or a dwarf for ability to wear heavy armor?
I was thinking maybe we could just choose between Spartans and Elites, and then we could have a section of matchmaking called “faction wars” or some such, besides social and ranked matchmaking, which could have invasion and both big and small faction vs. faction games with themed pre-set load outs. In there you could have Brutes, Forerunners, and Flood on top of the regular races.
