Faction Artdesign

Alright so the Banished artstyle I found had very little resenblance to the Covenant. I actually thought it reminded more of UNSC architecture. I suppose the reason could be that this time around it is much more Jiralhanae based so it might make sense but I just hope it won’t be confusing. Sometimes I even though it reminded of forerunner style? maybe just me. Don’t get me wrong, there was a little Covenant in there.
I want to mention too that I LOVE the Grunt jackal and Elite designs.

The little Forerunner Architecture that we got to see was near textureless and pretty much had no artstyle. People say they think it is because it is an old demo but all the other later images have had the same problem, so I’m starting to think this might be what we get. I am so confused by this, there is so much cool Forerunner design in previous games to base it on. I don’t litle that the whole ring is made of pillars either, what’s the deal there?
Though the overall shape of the ““palace of pain”” building is really nice.

There is so much more to rant about, what are you’re thoughts? architecture, weapons, armor etc, what is finished and what isn’t?
What are you happy with and what would you rather change?

It’s definitely the case that all the rounded purple glowing hexagon motif of the old covenant are well and truly gone in favour of harsh corners made of red & grey plate metal (albeit a lot cleaner and shinier than we are used to from Halo 3 / Halo Wars 2). I like this and I like how distinct it is, but that’s not to say I like everything I’ve seen. The bright blue elite minors now look fairly out of place, and it seems they’re pretty much just following their old covenant colour schemes when it comes to their ranks (there is a orange Elite Officer in the short trailer looking very similar to their Reach design). The shape of the phantom also looks jarringly un-halo like, It’s almost identical to the Halo Wars 2 model but somehow even more stripped down, clean AND simplified, which does make it look like it’s made from lego.

Overall i think everything just needs a round of weathering and dirtying up though, otherwise I think it’s fine and I definitely like what they’ve done with the brute’s armor and the way it falls apart (Although plz 343i give them back their hair, even if it’s just beards and mohawks like Halo 3 XD). The shade turret is also very cool.

Also I wanna add the thing that really surprised me about this demo is how little we’ve seen of all the best parts of the sandbox. We’ve not seen:

  • Chieftains
  • Spiked Wraiths
  • CHOPPERS (they better be there!)
  • The Banished Scarab
  • Hunters
  • 80% of the classic weapons, including all the power weapons except for the sword
  • pretty much all of the other vehicles & enemies I didn’t list here

And this isn’t getting in to the possibility of them adding in new enemy and vehicle types from Halo Wars 2. Basically we’ve barely seen the factions full aesthetic so far. It’s like judging the covenant from what enemies there are in the first mission of any other Halo game. And so that could be good because we haven’t seen the best of the game yet, but it also frightens me in case everything is as just as shiny and the brutality everyone loves from the Banished has been severely toned down. So idk what to think right now, but I definitely want to see more!

wow I agree with pretty much everything you just said, I think you are spot on about the weathering and dirtying, and I can’t wait to feel how a Infinite Chopper drives!

I am kinda disappointed with the Banished appearance so far in the game. They didn’t really seem to keep the designs from HW2. The enemies just look like the Covenant which kinda kills them being different. The bright blue, orange and purple enemies wearing smooth armor doesn’t fit the jagged and scavenged armor of the Banished. The red and grey color scheme hastily applied to everything.

They should have used the Banished Spirit honestly, that is the Phantom, but it looked weird even in HW2.

I hope they up the cinematics to halo wars 2 style. Also, I can’t wait to play this game.
