F2P is not an excuse

I just learned that the Reach armor I wanted will cost money, even with the game on Xbox Game Pass PC. The “free” part of the game only gives you challenge swaps and like 1 visor I don’t even like. I uninstalled the game, because I just wanted to recreate my Reach Spartan. I guess I will just wait for the Campaign, since the current progression system will give me nothing. It would have been so much better to just use the MCC systems instead.

when I first heard about the battle pass not having a certain time limit to complete I was honestly excited to see it but that was when I was under the impression you could earn enough credits to unlock the next one I can understand being less giving with the games premium currency but to not have it be gained through gameplay at all IDK seems pretty scummy

Oh your playing a picture of a video game? Mine has moving images and sound and everything

Selling the Zvezda armor set for $20 is absolutely predatory. Completionist have to shell out well over $60 to “unlock” everything. H5 at least let you grind to win.

exactly how is 1 EVA armor clone worth the battle pass 2x

I sincerely hope folks will continue to take 343i to task over this, and avoid buying into the battle pass, credits, etc until a major overhaul has taken place.

I’m concerned that those in charge of this economic system know full well the outrage this system will generate, and are willfully using it as a “foot in the door” technique so that when they change it into something slightly less obviously predatory and egregious, people will more readily swallow it because “at least it’s better than what they had before”- perhaps even mistaking a still predatory and dampened customization system for good will.

People seem to ignore the fact that you have to purchase the Battle Pass, so with that purchase I expect at the least the progress I make towards it is reasonable as oppose to what it’s like currently.

The industry standard is that if you complete a battlepass you will have enough in game currency to be able to get the next one for free. This is not the case in Infinite which charges you for each battle pass. There is not even a valid reason to have FOMO because the battlepass is up until May 2022. You would not miss out in any if the content anyway. This is not player first, this is milking every penny they can out of the players.

I think these are all great points.

Dont forget locking color and emblem customization behind paywalls and restricting it to prefabricated color schemes

I feel like the battlepass isn’t the may issue, especially now that they pushed the second one to may 2022, if I have to pay 10 bucks every 3 to 6 months I guess it’s fine. But the fact that all the store cosmetics are behind a paywall is something that needs to be change asap. If they put the EOD set in the store I’m gonna riot.

I wish it was not free-to-play in the first place. Imagine this multiplayer experience just being part of the main game, you buy it once and you get the full campaign and multiplayer in a complete package, with a great progression and reward system. Instead, they’re asking full price for the campaign only, and then a fortune for the Battle Pass and any cosmetic item you’d like. I do think it was a bad decision. Neither Halo or Xbox needed this negative backlash, especially at their 20th anniversary. Shame.

I mean. If you spend like $10 you get a shit ton of xp to get you to level 25. This is no different than any of the other f2p games.

Its not that predatory if you actually look at unlocks and how you can get XP fast.

Sounds to me you are on some kind of hardcore copium Do you know why they said BP will never go away? Because no one with life or other hobies will be phyisicaly able to unlock everything if it was time gated
and best part is we all know the coolest armor pieces will be locked behind paywall

It’s predatory because it goes out of its way to put expected (promised) features behind a paywall which they know some people won’t be able to resist. It’s predatory because the costs are much higher than what they are worth, but they’ve limited the market to force steep prices onto even some of the simplest of options. It’s predatory because a game with good design has been dissected and broken up for the sake of repeat payments from those who can afford it (or can’t help themselves)- at the sake of breaking their own promises.

All capitalism is inherently predatory but this current in-game economy isn’t even bothering to hide it.

Yup F2P and battle passes are nonsense and predatory.

The standard complete package pricing model is absolutely still profitable especially if supported with reasonably priced dlcs.

Anyone who says otherwise is a corporate shill and is a liar. It is completely unacceptable for basic multiplayer progression systems to be removed from base games and sold separately as subscriptions.

The fact is MS, 343 and every other studio and publisher know they can extract a lot more than $60 per player with a battle pass and exclusive paid cosmetics while at the Same time offering less core content upfront. So of course they exploit our baser instincts for subscriptions and customization.

At least you earn stuff in the commendations of halo 5, even getting req points in every match, this is not the case, the only way is to earn comestics is with PAY-TO-GET

I agree that it sucks to see our favorite game franchise go down this route, but the sense of entitlement is strong.

You’re right that they’re continuously walking back promises and their actions are the opposite of their words and that is really tough to see, but they don’t owe any of us anything. The game is free and the microtransactions are cosmetic. How is it predatory if it has zero impact on gameplay? I get that you’re upset that you can’t have the armor you want, but if you really want it, support the game that you’re playing for free?

343i doesn’t actually owe anyone anything and honestly that’s probably why they went with the free to play model. They can under promise and deliver whatever they can without the price tag backlash.

Does it suck? Yeah it does. I hate seeing Halo give into trends. It started with Reach/H4 trying to be CoD like and has gone downhill since then.

Does armor actually impact your gameplay experience though? No it doesn’t. Just play the game and don’t shell out $20 for your space barbie if that’s not your thing.

Fortnite gives you credits in the battlepass and you can earn xp in all the matches, this is not the case, the fortnite battle pass progression is much better that this one you have in Infinite
