Extreme Colourblindness - No RVB

Hey 343/Forum posters,

Context:
343 have revealed they will remove Red Vs Blue and replace it with outlines that have customisable colours(I think?).

This is ok to me, as Red was an extremely difficult colour to see against green maps.
But my concern is that without effective colourblindness modes - I won’t be able to tell my team mates apart at all.

I just have a deep concern Halo after all these years will become like many other games for me - difficult to play in a team :frowning:

As a side note if you read this 343: Please tell me the 1-50 style trueskill is back. I’m desperate to get away from the Onyx-Champion system.
I felt like it was fairly toxic given the amount I needed to play to maintain the rank. I could lose champion without playing every 8hrs.

I wonder if there is an Outline for friendlys at all then. Also not sure how i feel about outlines  i know its better that way for colourblind folks

People will most likely have TAGs above them

Hopefully the new colour system will have some options / flexibility to help colour blind players.

As for the ranks… remember that;

  1. Both H5 and Infinite use the same TrueSkill system.
  2. 1-50 and Bronze-Onyx are just different ways to express the same internal rank.
  3. The old 1-50 system is ‘broken’; level 50 was actually 50-60 (way too broad; Diamond 3 - Champion).
  4. “Champion” is a bit different. It’s the top 200 Onxy players. You weren’t losing any rank - your CSR didn’t change - just that you were no longer in the top 200. That’s something they can’t change. You could actually be Champion, win a game, and still lose your Champion status if another player somewhere in the world wins and displaces you from the top 200. And the reverse is true - you could lose a game, or not play for a few days, and ‘fall’ into the top 200.

The multiplayer inside Infinite confirms you get to pick your enemy/friendly outline colors. These colors will also set the flag and base holographics too.

So basically they’re letting folks who suffer from color blindness (and everyone else) select the colors they think will work best for them .

There are some pretty cool color blind options for outlines, I believe you will be pleased.

My friend is kind of scared to ask since its a annoying question. But for getting 152 on Halo 5, we have seen 2 of the rewards. Was there a hint towards 1 more reward or was that it? Just curious if you would know.

I really love this change. As someone who never plays FFA it’ll be nice to get to see my full spartan customization showing in game. No more making color choices for your armor only for it to go away and just be fully replaced by the team color. Now everyone can stand out as individuals more. As long as the replacement for seeing which people are on my team is still pretty much as immediately obvious as seeing them in the team color has been in the series I’m quite happy with this.

Yeah, games like Overwatch teach the entire world that colored team is just a plus, adding a red edge is enough.

or perhaps even a toggle-able ability to see others colors, this would make everyone happy. but either way i feel everyone will get used to it.

I hope one of the options is all of your enemies wear a fedora on their head, or a newsie cap.

Hey snickerdoodle, after playing the flighting I experimented alot with the colourblindness settings.
But it is unfortunately completely untenable for me to play at a high level competitively with the current colourblindness settings.

There are a few reasons for this, 1. The outlines are not visible to me from a mid range or long range distance, even selecting for Yellow/Pink. 2. They are only clearly visible when the enemy has been shot. 3. The time delay between me trying to discern between these two is a significant disadvantage for me at the HCS level.
My settings were: Thickness Maximum, Enemy Yellow, Friendly Pink.
Although I tried many combinations.

I would be happy to participate heavily privately in the involvement of strong colourblindness settings. I suffer from extreme deuteranopia. However there are also other forms of colourblindness who may be experiencing this as well.

If left the way it is this will be very sad for me as someone who has competed since 2007.
Either way I will not be able to spectate tournaments with the same enjoyment as before, but if I can at least have my own settings on to be able to compete I will be thoroughly appreciative.

Do you think if they just highlighted teammates that would be better? Then by default everyone else would be a enemy.

That way your not trying to figure out which color just outline or no outline.

I think being able to choose no outline on one of the teams would be a good option for everyone.

There is. You can literally see teammates through walls. And you can change their colour, the enemy tram colour and the colour of your fireteam

Wow, I completely missed these during the flight.

Lot of people thought the differentiation could use tweaking, so they’ll probably change it or give more options. At the very least, I expect them to implement four letter tags on teammates as others have said, and gamertags above enemies. Not sure how effective that’ll be at range without color differentiation though. I’m confident they’ll find a way to make it more accessible though.
