I got an Exterm without getting an overkill. How is that?
Exterm: Wipe out an entire enemy team with at least an overkill.

i killed a guy then got a triple with rocks right before he respawned, i guess you don’t need an overkill. just thought it was odd.
Extermination is killing an entire team before any respawn, but an overkill has a specific time between kills to achieve. Maybe you took slightly longer to kill the last person or so? O.o

But with the Exterm, all of them have to be dead at the same time. If they are all in the respawn screen, then you can get the medal.
It happened to me as well. I got an Overkill in SWAT, but no Exterm. That was because it took a little longer in between kills.
Yeah, it’s happened to me too. I got an extermination with only a double-kill.

Yeah it has happen to me before not only on Reach but on Halo 3 as well.
Sure, the clip would help, but just a link to the game in question might answer a concern or two.

Overkill requires you kill all 4 in four seconds, but the spawn time for the first opponent is 10 seconds.
It appears that the gap was somewhere in between, so all four were dead at once, but outside the overkill window.

Yeah blackscreened a few times. Still i was amused at seeing first strike x 3 in postgame.
That time it would be at least slightly special and deserving of its top medal spot.
As far as overkill vs. exterm; maybe the exterm just cares if you kill at least 4 people and push the entire other team to respawn and isn’t as strict as the overkill medal with the 4 seconds in between kills rule. I think I’ve gotten a double kill followed shortly by another double kill and gotten an exterm for it since all enemies were dead.

Your post is kinda confusing to me. I am not sure if it is the wording or what…
But I will just say that with an Overkill, it can take up to 16 seconds to get it(4 seconds between each kill) and the respawn time is a 5 seconds I believe. So it can be very easy to miss it if you take the full time.
See… I’m wondering if the OP was even playing a slayer game, but without the link, there’s no way to confirm a thing.
Sorry - you killed one. six seconds later, you kill the other 3. No Overkill, but since all of the players were dead at once (the first had not yet respawned), you get the Extermination.
