Which extended universe characters do you want to see appear somewhere in Infinite? By extended universe I mean any character who has yet to be heard of or seen in a mainline Halo game, but has been mentioned in other licensed material.
Since it’s Installation 07, it’d be nice to see any characters from the Forerunner Trilogy in terminals or other Easter eggs.
As far as any character that could appear, I’d like to see Veta Lopis and the S-III Ferret team. Most unlikely but mind-blowing appearance I’d love to see?
Rion Forge and her crew, including the now Promethean Soldier bodied 343 Guilty Spark.

Heavens of mercy I need more of the Ace of Spades crew and Veta’s Ferrets in my life. Another book, terminals, a side-game, anythiiiing
I get the feeling that the odds that we’ll see any EU characters show up in Infinite is immensely unlikely though… Can’t shake the feeling. Like, I still have burning images in my mind of seeing people not like the fact that these “new” Blue Team members were hogging the spotlight (And not even getting started on poor Osiris’s members sans Buck) and why they should care about them. If they do try and bring external characters in, I feel it’d be at best easter eggs or terminals.
But, if they have some sort of in-game ency to work with that’d probably help loads with this sort of thing. Didn’t read X or Y material and so don’t know what the deal is with this ‘new’ character? Just pop open the menu after the cutscene’s finished and read a nice, brief overview of them to catch you up to speed. Like Kingdom Hearts 3 - as you played the game it’d unlock entries on various key topics and give a paragraph or two at worst to describe what this thing is and why it’s important. It also had three short videos that summarized the entire series up until this point, so you wouldn’t feel ENTIRELY locked out of the loop if you missed a game or three.
It actually did a very good job, and sooner or later I think Halo could benefit from that as well, so 343i doesn’t feel like they HAVE TO write entirely standalone stories for the games and miss out on the trove of jewels that the books and stuff are putting out, while also not entirely locking out people who don’t get involved with the external material when they do include in the games.
Spartan Ken. Its been a while since we have seen him.
none. the canon is already way to bloated. i’d like to play the games and be able to understand them without having to go through books, comics, etc.
but, if the character is treated like a new character in the game and it’s not mandatory to understand the character and the motives of him/her, i don’t care if it’s really a new character or one from the extended universe. a small nod to the extended universe doesn’t hurt, as long as it doesn’t stick out to people who only play the games and make it confusing for them

Who’s that? You lost me…

I’m afraid I am not at liberty to reveal who that is. The ONI will get us both for that.
Preferably none to be honest. H5G was too hard to follow if you didn’t read all of the extended lore. That transmedial approach is one of the biggest flaws in that game and I hope 343i will steer away from it.
Also, with the Banished and Spirit of Fire they already have a set of ‘new’ characters for most mainstream Halo gamers. Adding to many new characters is just begging for storytelling problems.
Unless… Spartan Ops returns with seasons structured like H3:ODST and focusing on relevant side stories to the main campaign.

the issue with 5 is it introduced them poorly and or set them up poorly. There are ways to introduce extended universe characters in a mainline game without feeling like they are even doing it (terminals are one example and make the most sense given they are more of history lessons).

That’s part of the issue. The other issue is that Halo still is a FPS game. No matter how story driven they might be, there is a limit to the amount of characters and storylines you can incorporate before it gets too complex.
Terminals are fine… But also just terminals if you know what I mean. I’m fine with that as it’s one of the few options to include more story in a ‘good’ way. But how much of a part of the game are they then?
Having good terminals return is a must anyway if you ask me!
Infinity Comms. I know he appeared in H5, but the dude needs more screentime.

I feel like you put way too little faith in people that play FPS. The genre itself really does not matter. However, when you add too many important active characters in any story things get really messy. Introducing characters that are not active is something games can easily do.

I’m not doubting people who play FPS at all, I’m just saying the genre has its limits in storytelling. Something you lsopointed out in your reply. FPS campaigns generally are fairly short and straightforward. Halo has proven on more than one occasion that you can tell interesting and fairly complex stories (H2 for instance). But they all had a limited main cast with few support characters.
H5 introduced characters in a completely wrong way, but it also had too many characters going on (Chief, Blue Team, Locke, Buck, Osiris, Lasky, Cortana, Arbiter, Halsey, Palmer, etc etc etc). A cast like that is easy in a RPG, but not that much for a FPS if you ask me. Length of games does matter and that means genres generally do too.
But again: side characters in terminals (like ODST’s for instance) or side campaigns in Spartan Ops is fine.
