Explosions and Physics are disappointing

Compare Halo Infinite explosions VFX and Physics with Halo 3 and you’ll immediately see the difference:

  • Plasma grenades looks like water balloons in comparison - Every grenade explosion has a very weak physics effect or too few objects react to physics - Even the rockets explosion from the rocket launcher had very weak physics effects (a Skewer dart seems way more powerful) - Rockets explosions seem to have a very small area effect and missed targets, even if very close to explosions, doesn’t seem physically effected at all - Vehicle explosions aren’t quite as satisfying or visually interesting - Generally, the ragdoll of a hit enemy is hardly ever seen flying through the air (even with a direct hit from the Skewer or Rocket Launcher) - Gravity Hammer doesn’t seem to effect “gravity” anymore
  • Grenade-jumping has been intentionally turned off in the Beta. There is an option in custom games to turn it back on, and you’ll get the physics you ask for. Unknown if this will be standard in matchmaking. - In my opinion the explosions look good. Better than H4 and H5, but beating H3 is a tall order. This is 343 after all. Not Bungie. - In my opinion, lowered splash radius on rockets is a good thing, because it rewards skill and punishes mistakes. Also it means you can out-play a guy with rockets. - I completely agree with the lack of ragdoll physics on skewer. I wish we could pin bodies to moving vehicles.

In my opinion, a missed target should be affected by physics, precisely to reward skill.
If I miss a target I expect the explosion to move it from where it was, so I have to take this into account before firing a new rocket.
If the target is not moved by the blast it is all too easy to fire two rockets in quick succession at the same spot and kill it for the accumulated damage.

If I hit the target directly, it dies in one hit as it always has, if instead I miss it, he is displaced by the explosion and has a chance to fight back while I take aim again, so I am still punished for my mistake.

Sadly, I know that 343 is not Bungie, my observation is that Halo 3 is a much older game and still has the best VFX.

Yeah, the explosions look very strange. I thought in Halo 5 they were great, lots of particle effects and nice looking fire. The explosions in infinite just look cartoony.

Yeah, hope they gonna fix it

I agree the physics seems often very static and not Halo really Halo like, since good physics is a key part of Halo i hope they fix it or make it more fun.

In BTB i hit a normal Warthog with Spanker shots 2 times (direct hits, one on the engine, one on the side of the car) i killed only 1 of 2 drivers and the warthog was still alive. Was that the same on H3? (i don’t remeber) That impact seems to be really weak.

The lack of good rag doll physics has been one of my major gripes. I miss grenade/hammer jumping. I don’t know how they’re going to be able to do a grifball with their physics. They are pretty poor.

i also dislike the explosion visuals too. The flames just don’t look good and the fact the destroyed vehicles look relatively unscathed is also very bizarre.

I completely disagree with everyone and I’m loving the ragdolls and physics in this game.
Death animations are really nice and satisfying, especially when using melee attacks.
Explosions are looking great too, both grenades (very fiery) and vehicles (the satisfaction of blowing up something with the Skewer is real). Weapon effects are also very pleasing.
And I’m happy to see many things that are affected by physics on the maps (take the fan ceilings in bazar for example).
Of course everything can be improved even more, but all this is MUCH better now than in H4 and H5. This Halo reminds me of good old H3
