You can mac a 3 pad, 5 pad, or 7 pad base down with 1 mac if there are zero buildings. You can only mac down a 3 pad base with 1 on it. However, it has to be placed perfectly on the base for it to happen.

5+1 I have never been able to land - must be that if you have more queued up at the time it gets dropped it absorbs some of the damage… Hmmm…
