Explanation of ranking system

Hey all!

I’m in no way hating on halo 5 with this post, I just need some sort of explanation at how the ranking system actually works, I usually don’t care about ranks too much but last night while I was already ranked in swat this season, my friend wasn’t who usually doesn’t like playing swat but he just wanted fast games so swat it was and 8 games in and we noticed we hadn’t dropped a single game, we managed to win all 10 games and he’s ranked revealed a Platinum 3, which we were all a bit confused over, we weren’t expecting onyx or champion but maybe a mid diamond, so any explanation or youtube video would be awesome,

Thanks =]

Cos the system is lazy and wont match people against people against higher skills when it should. You prob played all plats cos they are an abundant division rather than the system waiting a bit ti match you diaminds. It is a common fault with this system im afraid

I feel I should be matched with more people around my skill level, if I am gold six I should be getting matches with other gold 6’s and not against a team that has two diamonds. it really can mess up someone’s division in that regard. and now i wait for the typical jerk to type “git gud, scrub”

The first ten games take into consideration what ranks you were playing against, as well as your stats, so wins don’t mean everything. And considering you are only platinum in SWAT, I would say most of the games, if not all, were against platinums or lower.

No, you should match players of your own skill rank, then + / - a little.
It’s impossible for everyone to play only higher ranks.

The real problem is the population in the playlist you’re playing.
With a small enough population you have a very small chance of getting an even match, skill rank wise, as there may not be enough players.

In my opinion if your friend just started there are probably many diamonds and higher so he actually got a more so true ranking than say someone who ranked out on the 1st day of reset.

I think 343 patched this but if not it makes sense. Say 100 people rank out in the first hour of the season changing. Since there is nothing to judge against there’s a good chance you’ll rank high. This also has the reverse affect I believe. If you wait a week or two and you happen to be a beast at a playlist. You will be slaying those diamond platinums and get ranked high (such as platinum 3) then you get the enjoyment of being matched against players lower than what your actual rank is.

For example me and my buddy play slayer a week out from the reset and rank out low platinum high gold and enjoy padding the kd on the way up to diamond, but now at diamond we get absolutely slaughter when it’s just me and him. Why? Because when we ranked out the abundance of platinum and diamond kept us low at rank out.

Ive had a few post about this, but there is something off about there ranking system not wrong but not quite right.

It doesn’t work. Won 3 matches in arena against Plats and diamonds as gold 6 playing with a plat 5 friend, after losing 2 matches of Plats and diamonds i get dropped to Gold 5. Honestly why should you care if it’s gonna be like that. Just win all your placement matches and you will easily get plat.

Thank you! I thought that would be the case, when I ranked this season I think I lost 3 and I still got plat 2 i think it was, I got diamond 6 in preseason and I haven’t been able to get back to diamond since sadly(mainly due to crappy team mates) makes sense though, thanks for your reply =]
