343i itself admitted that the game had many flaws and issues, things that had been overlooked in Halo 4. Everyone else noticed this as well. We were sold a game only about 70% done.
After the reveal of Halo 5, IMP, it is clear that 343i obviously knew the release timelines of all the halo games, and that if they would have waited the extra 4 months it took to bring Halo 4 to a fun, reasonable game, E3 would be right around the corner, that would not look very good.
tl;dr-343i rushed Halo due to Microsoft’s release timeline of the next trilogy. With E3 around the corner, they couldn’t wait to release.
Indeed. I think the timing of the Microsoft acquisition, E3, and Xbox One release are the main reasons why the game is unfinished.
Sure, it’s sad that Halo 4 turned out this way. But in some sense, I can’t really fault 343i since they had no control over the timing of the above events.
Maybe this means they will set some things right in Halo 5.
Halo 5 was in production long before Halo 4 even reached gold status. Considering Halo 4 was released 2012, and Halo 5 is scheduled for 2014, that means Halo 5 had seen atleast 1 year of the production in the time Halo 4 was in the last phase. Unless of course I misunderstood the 2014 thing at the end, haven’t seen it in good resolution yet.
If it however is wrong, i343 has hired a huge number of game developers in order to speed up the process, or they’re rushing Halo 5 and we’ll end up with god knows what.
OR they simply didn’t put as much into a game on a dying console as they are into a game on a console that will be around for the next decade. Why put all your eggs in an old rotting basket?

That’s a possibility, but why waste the time with the updates then?
Halo 4s problems can be chalked up to a lot of different things ranging from the pure ignorance of a small new dev team attempting to handle a 10yr old franchise with millions of fans to plain greed. I stay optimistic for Halos future because I know what it can be.
Old, maxed out hardware (and some users running even older gen 360s)
Scope creep
After the June 3 update I think it’s safe to say the game has greatly improved since launch, and I encourage those who have been away to come back and try again.
Still, I feel like H4 was a sandbox for H5. Try a bunch of stuff out, see if anything sticks (or doesn’t) and you’re one step closer to making Halo 5 (powered by XB1) all the better.
