I’ve read from SO MANY places that the Pistol is the most OP’d weapon in Halo: CE. Well, I went back and played the campaign through again and I’m here to tell you that EVEN WITH ALL HEADSHOTS, the pistol wasn’t that great. Now, don’t get me wrong. Was it better than the AR? Definitely yes. Was it better than the Shotgun? lolno. That was an OP’d weapon. Even at long range. The individual pellets did a lot of damage by themselves. Add to that, the absurdly fast reload, huge ammo capacity in the gun, and a quick melee, and you got a weapon that can curbstomp the Pistol. Yet everyone looks at the CE Pistol with starry eyes while I’m looking around at ye olde Shotgun.

Been saying it for years. The pistol wasn’t what some people kept making out. I love all my weapons but back in the old halo 1/2/3 the pistols were never overpowered but they later changed it, people kept making out the reach pistol is like the halo ce pistol which was a load of nonsense. Even now I play on the pc multiplayer, barely anyone uses it.
Well…you’re on campaign, for one. Back in the day, it took 3 shots to the head to kill someone in multiplayer, as opposed to the weak magnum in halo 2/3…
EDIT:
Honestly on campaign it’s mostly good as a fallback weapon in incase you run out of ammo for your other weapon, and for killing flood as you only need to shoot them in the chest where the heart would be, and to kill hunters easily.
1-shot kill to a Hunter with a pistol while a Shotgun made it 1-3 shots. And it had excellent range in MP games and could be used as a rifle. The shotgun can’t make it across Blood Gulch. All the weapons in CE were extremely over-powered. Its just that the pistol is the most recognizable because it was downgraded extremely in Halo 2 and especially 3.

Understandable. Nevertheless, if you’re facing someone with the Shotgun in close range, we all know who’s going to win that one. Or, if you’re lucky, even medium range.
BTW, they toned down the magnum in 3, yes. But if you DW it with something, it’s actually pretty good. Especially once you get someone’s shield down and you headshot him with it.
Thats why we refer it to as, the GOD Pistol. I used it the entire game. I didn’t even pick up a single new weapon. I had it with me all three difficulties.
Well, usually side arms that are 3 shot kill are considered overpowered.
It was the most effective weapon at most ranges, and was quick to kill in close combat too. Then it was downgraded. That, plus its unique kill times and power would make it one of the more memorable things in CE.
I use it often and it’s, by far, one of the better weapons in the game. Since the August update I only see Anniversary games, thus making the DMR a scarcity. Plus the magnum has a nice scope that can be used as an excellent cross-fire weapon. Meaning that if more than one person is firing magnums at a single target they drop fast.
I’ve gotten into hot water on many games and put down at least two people with a magnum before being dropped.

It isn’t the general 3SK pistol in campaign, but it’s still a pretty great weapon to have. I carried it as much as I could throughout the campaign.
In multiplayer, it’s absolutely OP. Three headshots = death.
The shotgun was absolutely unstoppable against the Flood. I guess it garnered the reputation since you could spawn with it a lot and was a fairly go-to weapon. That was a three shot kill.
I’d say the pistol’s fame came from the fact that it was very powerful and highly accurate… for a sidearm. In most other games at the time, the pistol was a weapon you started with and got rid of as soon as possible, without ever looking back. And compared to the bullet hose that is the MA5B, it had incredible stopping power.
As Riot Rojas pointed out, it was affectionately referred to as “God’s Own Sidearm.”
The shotgun outclasses it at short range, of course, but the trick there is that the guy with the shotgun has to get close enough, and you could use the pistol to pick off people from across the map. As OP as the shotty was, it didn’t see much use on maps like Blood Gulch where there was a long, clear line of sight advantage.
Did I say it was overrated? I meant, it was comfortable.
It was not hitscan, which made it reliable in cqc compared to H2 BR, H2 Carbine, and DMR.
Other advantages over the shotgun: headshot bonus, full auto firing mode, easy to see where your shots land, stopping power (1 shot will blow off a Flood combat form’s arm), highly accurate, more ammo (shotgun ammo can be a scarcity on higher difficulties)
I only need to bring up Two Betrayals mission start to demonstrate why the pistol is better.
In my opinion, the Pistol was just a ton of fun in multiplayer. Unlike the precision weapons of today, the Pistol actually made ranged combat seem fair and fun and fast.
Play on easy with the pistol. Thats how it was in Halo CE’s multiplayer. It’s a 3sk weapon two shots to take out the shields and one for a headshot. With aim assist and al in Halo its not hard to pull of unless you play pc where its only gonna happen if the guy you’re shooting at is coming straight at you or not even moving (this is due to ping or lag) But regardless it was the only weapon other than power weapons that could kill people that fast. Hence it was an OP god pistol that you could spawn with. And it is OP, I used to play PC and I’d ignore any weapon on the ground if I had the pistol. Why? because I used to run up and down blood gulch shoothing up banshees and scorpions and taking them out in no time thanks to the pistol. Usually 2/3 a clip for tanks or you could 3sk if you got a clear shot at the open canopy (did that it was sweet)
