ExpertZone - Halo 4 Q&A w/ 343i

Some of the more interesting questions are as follows:

Q: The E3 demos for Halo 4 looked fantastic, but they made me want to replay the other numbered Halo games. With the great job 343 did with the HD remastering of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, is there a chance we will see Halo 2 HD before the end of this console generation? Maybe a Halo Trilogy pack to promote the new saga? Pretty please?

A: We are not working on that at this time. We are kind of busy.

Q: In regards to co-op, will we see an actual 2nd character are do both players play the role of the main protagonist like before? And how do you feel about the Metroid references?

A: In co-op, players will all play as the same person. Since much of Campaign has the Chief alone for fictional reasons, it wouldn’t make sense to have the three other co-op players in the fiction – it’s a conceit designed to put gameplay first. Spartan Ops however, has individually created Spartans who all have the identity you give them.

So everybody is Chief in CoOp…

Thanks, Moa. (:

Also, apparently Forge news is coming pretty soon. Comic-Con again?

Forge news soon…

> So everybody is Chief in CoOp…

Ya that’s kind of weird. If they say that it wouldn’t make sense to have different people with the chief, it hasn’t ever made sense. Just some random elites following the Arbiter and the Chief in Halo 3, huh? Co- op should not be 4 Chiefs running around.

I guess Co-Op isn’t canon, then; no big deal

Notice how he doesnt say “master chief” he says “the same person”…Are we not going to be chief the whole time??? O.O

Awesome. I sure hope that eventually they do a HD remaster of Halo 2.

I hope they release it with the next-gen xbox.

As do I. That campaign was AWESOME, I don’t really like playing it anymore due to its outdated graphics. It’d be cool if they could launch it in between Halo 4 and Halo 5 with totally new graphics like Halo 4’s, if possible. Or maybe even release alongside the ‘Next Xbox’.

makes sense that you all play as Chief.

> Q: I loved the addition in Halo: CEA of the cryo readout for Linda. Will we see any Easter Eggs that specifically reference the expanded universe, especially the books?
>
> A: Yes. There will be plenty of easter eggs and hidden goodies.

This got me excited.

You don’t follow a story for graphics.
I still play Halo 2 every week, I really don’t so a reason to make a remake.
I even played Halo: CEA on the old graphics without even noticing, it doesn’t change anything.

That is your view. Many players would love to see a visual upgrade. You wouldn’t have to buy it anyways.

That’s how I feel about it. I firmly believe players 2-4 should be their MP Spartans. Coming up with canonical reasons for co-op is irrelevant unless the chief is actually supposed to have people with him. 343i, I feel, did what’s easier in this case. That’s fine though I guess, the campaign I’m sure will be great.

> Q: Even though this hasn’t been done with any other Halo game, will there be DLC for the single player campaign? I definitely know there will be DLC for the multiplayer armor enhancements, skins, and levels, but DLC that would expand the Halo universe would be great.

The underlined part is what I’m wondering about. So will we have to buy armor enhancements, or is the interviewer wrong even though he/she says, “I definitely know”?

So there might be a Halo 2 Anniversary.

I also noticed that they said the ranking system was a progression system. So I’m assuming that’s it’s going to be more like the current system in Reach.

And when you’ve been through the campaign once, you know the story already. You’re playing for fun from there on.

I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer to play with great graphics full of different colours rather than just grey everywhere for buildings. I’d much prefer to play Halo 2 if it were graphically updated.

Halo 2 was kind of the only Halo game to date that didn’t have some kind of canonical reason for for the 2nd player. In Halo 1, the 2nd player played as Linda which didn’t tie into the game’s story, but did tie into the novels. In Halo 3 the other players were Elites, ODST was just a bunch of other nameless ODSTs running around, and in Reach everyone played as their own character.

So, other than Halo 2, co-op always kind of had some merit but wasn’t fleshed out very well. This is the least of our worries though.

Only DLC confirmed is the map packs so far.
