Experience sharing thread.

Hi, I’m fairly new to Halo 5, I just got back to it after a recent addiction to Overwatch which I have overcome  I’m just creating this thread because I’m not very good at halo, and the way I got good at Overwatch was learning the theory of the game. Now I play halo, I want to know the theory of Halo. All I need is little bits of info that you have gathered over your time playing halo 5. These are what I have found:

  • Always have an AR or some other CQ weapon ready when running around the map in arena gamemodes like slayer or inffection or ffa or whatever. - Never rage. I don’t rage often, and I’ve never raged in Halo, but I’ve raged before in Overwatch, and I’ve seen how other people raging affects their play. What I’ve found works to prevent tilt, but is risky, is in warzone, spawn the best ghost you have or can req with the req tokens you have, and go around the map getting single kills, and then running away. Don’t go after bosses, don’t go after vehicles unless they’re really low on health, just get single kills on disadvantaged players on the enemy team. Don’t troll. This is the worst way to attempt to win, but it’s the best way to dispell tilt. Be careful though. Don’t lose your first ghost and then get another one immediately continuously until you have no more ghosts. If that doesn’t work, I’ve heard of another way to dispell tilt, and that’s to go into forge, spawn in the biggest timmy the space whale there is, and get your favourite are vehicle, or a void’s tear mixed with a spnkr prime or something, and bombard it until it falls off the platform you placed it on, which needs to be really high up, and quite wide so that it takes a bit for the whale to fall off. You can’t get my recommendation, as I haven’t tried this out yet, but I’ve heard great things from friends. - Set your control scheme to bumper jumper or helljumper. Helps so much. I’ve got a scuf, and I really like it, it’s helped so much. I’ve seen great reviews on the elite, but I’ve heard it’s really heavy and I would hate that, that would mess up my game so much. If you’re getting a scuf, remove rumbles, vibrations mess up your aim, and it makes your controller lighter. I would recommend scuf, but if you don’t like scuf, then don’t go for anything outside of scuf or elite. - Warm up in infection or Swat or something, don’t go into your final placement game after you’ve just come home from work/school, and your hands are freezing. I warm up in overwatch, since there’s a really good training ground there to warm up. - get kontrolfreeks if you don’t wanna cash out for elite or scuf, put it on your right stick, it will improve your aim overnight, trust me. (provided you spent 3-4 hours overnight practicing with the kontrolfreeks, then it will transform you overnight). If you have kontrolfreeks, you should bump up your sensitivity. - Play with friends. Please share your thoughts and comment on my tips, it would be really helpful. Also if you could share your thoughts on the best weapons in certain situations, that would be really useful, I know I haven’t put anything here on the theory of the game, that’s because I don’t know much, sorry, I’m relying on you guys to give me that knowledge.

Well there is no definitive controll scheme you should use. Players can just perform well using different controll schemes. I myself use Default because I always associate the A button with jump, and it just feels damn fluid to me.

Personally, I’ve found that just not really caring that much(not to the point where you throw the game, just enough to not care much about you kills deaths, objective time, etc.) can help get you into the zone.

Ok, thanks, I think that you should probably switch from default tho, it’s not good having to take your finger off the thumbstick to jump. I use Helljumper. Trust me, it’s a lot more comfortable, and it’s not that big of a change, it just moves thruster closer to your thumb, and reload a bit further away, plus lets you jump and aim. Also I saw you don’t use a mic that much cos of your age, try it out, I’m not yet a teenager, and I tried it out recently, it’s not as toxic as you think, the game feels a lot better with it.

storm rifle kid, its the best, and it out guns almost any automatic except the saw. Another tip that I could give would be that the best power up is camo, over shield helps in a pinch but it doesn’t last to long so I suggest learning where the camo is because its on almost all the maps. Btw normal weapons respawn 10 second after pick up , power ups 3 minutes after pick up and there are also power weapons that don’t spawn on the weapon pad like the hyrda

some weapons have 2 firing modes

Woah, thanks, but how do you manage to keep track of when they respawn? There’s so much going on. And thanks for the Storm Rifle tip, I never used it that much, I usually just used the Ar. Do you know on what level the suppresor is? I keep on seeing it but having mid match dilemmas on whether to pick it up or not. I always thought that in close range SMG > SAW > AR > Storm Rifle > Suppressor, but is that actually the case? I thought that in long range it was Suppresor > SAW > Storm Rifle > AR > SMG.

What does that mean? I know that the plasma pistol can be charged up, and also shot in small quick bursts, as can the plasma caster, but what other weapons can be fired this way?

Storm Rifle definitely out DPS’s the AR, especially in CQC. Suppressor is slower, but homes in on targets, so I would use it a bit farther than the AR/Storm Rifle.

Yes, several weapons have multiple ways to fire it. Plasma Pistol and Caster are classic examples. The Light Rifle can 3 shot someone if it is scoped, 4 shot if not. Certain versions of the Incineration Cannon can charge up to do more damage, similar to the Caster. You just have to experiment with different weapons, usually if there is a difference, they will perform different if they are charged or scoped.

I forgot to put that you should always go after bosses in warzone with friends or just teammates, don’t just try to kill other Spartans, Bosses are worth a lot. And don’t go for the enemy’s core unless you’re completely steamrolling the enemy team, most of the time you’ll die, and then you’ll end up losing most of your bases.

Well there’s also my favorite weapon in the game. That weapon being the hydra. When you have it and smart scope it’ll start beeping and when your cross hair is on some one a target will appear and when the target is red it means that the hydra has locked on. So all you have to do is look up and fire two rockets. The weapon times is a thing I learned in a custom match just happened to notice it was the same across the board for all the maps.

Weapons have spawn timers. The power weapons and power ups spawn every two minutes after getting picked up. So example being I pick up over shield at 11:30, next one is available at 9:30, if I pick it up at 9:24 next one is available at 7:24. Same applies for rockets, sniper, anything that shows up on your hud highlighted by green. The non power ups and grenades spawn every 45 seconds, but to be honest there isn’t much need to time those due to how much they place them on the maps and you’ll very rarely run out of ammo before swapping weapons or firing first.

my tip for the day.

-Keep your head, it’s OK to get frustrated as long as it doesn’t hurt your game play.
-use whatever controller layout your most comfortable with.
-play play play play…practice makes perfect.
-watch film on players who dominate, but watch different playstyles. It’s good to have variety but play to your own strengths.
-team with other veterans who know the game and ask questions.

The best way to get better is to just continually play and be consistent. Play better competition too, that’ll make you better.

Wow, it looks like you have a real good start there. I don’t have a lot of Warzone tips I don’t play it a lot. Mainly just don’t become a player who farms it with his friends. If you can blow the core do it.

Learn the maps, and know where you are going right at the start of the game. Like on Truth, in Team Arena, know which way the camp is. Blue left, Red right, and so on. I still have issues keeping track of the respawn timer, but I attempt to counter this by saying the timer out loud, bottom right of the screen.

Another thing I try to work on is paying good attention to the kill feed. If you are running without a team it will help you know where the enemy is. Always stick with a teammate especially in the ranked playlists. Don’t go running around by yourself.

Those are just a few. If you are really wanting to get better and understand Halo I would also recommend watching Luke the Notable for more tips. Watch your games back in theater. Also use Customs to learn the maps.

That’s about it. Good luck!

Since you recently added me on Xbox, I’ll gladly share a couple of tips:

  • Practice makes perfect!

  • The default Xbox One controller is great on its own. There is no (necessary) need to dish out $150 for the Elite counterpart, but there’s nothing stopping you from getting that or any other quality controller on the market. Just look up any reviews first before you head out and buy them. It is also wise (though not entirely mandatory) to invest some cash into a good headset that is compatible with the system.

  • Choose a control scheme that is most comfortable to you. Now most people play on Default, Helljumper, or Bumper Jumper, but I stick with Recon as it closely mimics the original setup. Sensitivity and deadzones are also very important too; your gameplay style - whether it would be aggressive or defensive - will fill out most of the paperwork. As for me, I play on Recon with the absolute highest sensitivity settings. It may be tricky to handle, but close quarters (especially during Infection) is a breeze once you get the hang of it. Sniping isn’t much of an issue either, once you can handle the fast aiming speed.

  • Map knowledge is key. Knowing the weapon spawns, key chokepoints, and the overall layout of the map can give you a strategic advantage over the other team.

  • You can “cut” reload times in half. Now sometimes you may feel the need to dish out a lot of damage as quickly as possible, or if you were caught off-guard by an approaching enemy. While you are reloading your weapon, pay attention to the ammo counter on the top right of your HUD. As soon it turns blue, you can cancel the rest of the reload process by performing the following: A short sprint, a thruster evade, a clamber, a melee (though not recommended), or by throwing a grenade (which can maximize your damage output if thrown well).

Unfortunately, only magazine-fed weapons benefit from this trick the most, alongside the Shotgun and Scattershot. Battery-based weapons don’t gain anything to reduce their cooldown. It is also important to note that the Lightrifle and the Carbine only gain very minor benefits, therefore it’s not worth performing the trick on those weapons at all.

  • DON’T. -Yoink!-. It’s rude, it’s disgusting, and it’s just plain disrespectful. Once you kill someone, leave their body alone. They can’t do anything do you in that state, so why should you?

Did I add you?
On your tips:

  • Agreed Agreed Agreed. - Agreed, scuf/Elite just makes it more comfortable. Get a headset. I use DXtech SA-922 with 7.1 surround sound and a mic for £20. it has been invaluable. - Agreed. Don’t use default though. I would recommend Helljumper or Bumper Jumper but use whatever you like. Play around with sens and acceleration and stuff. I’ve got mine in my bio on waypoint.com - Agreed. I am working on this. - That’s really useful to know, thank you. - Agreed. It’s horrible to the person being teabagged. I always make sure to kill anyone who teabags me as many times as possible. Just don’t, ok?

  • Don’t farm, it’s not fun for the enemy team, if you’re steamrolling a team, make sure to finish the game as soon as possible, it’s not fun for the enemy team, and most of the time it’s not fun for you. - Agreed. I’m going to try out that tactic next time I play, thank you for that. - Agreed. I am currently looking for players to play with. I am in Greenwich mean time, please feel free to add me. - I am 12 years old and currently studying for exams, so I don’t have enough time to do this. I do however occasionally watch Luke TheNotable, or Proximitty or BBK Dragoon, all of whom are good youtubers to watch for tips.Thank you for these tips.

I find the hydra not the most useful as it takes two shots, and if you have good aim you can easily take down an opponent in one shot with a rocket launcher, and the hydra launcher rockets are easy to dodge.

Thanks for all these tips, and please feel free to add me if you want to play with me. I would really appreciate it. keep in mind that I am in GMT.

It’s pretty much physically impossible for me to use a different control scheme, for whatever reason I clench my hands in awkward positions when I use the other control schemes. I can jump and aim pretty well, I kinda have to, I am a decent sniper. And I don’t use my mic because of my age, because, actually I’ll message you about it. I don’t really want the reason to be public knowledge.

Ok, well go with whatever control scheme feels most comfortable for you. I’m just going to put it out there, I wasn’t saying that you have to use a mic, if it’s personal reasons, that’s fine, you can do that, I can guarantee that the people who message and whine about you not using voice chat are going to be the minority. I’m certainly not one of them.

Yeah I know but I still like halo. There’s no way I’m giving up either any time soon.

I was just wondering what people’s thoughts are on these weapons compared to each other:
Ar, suppresor, and storm rifle
Magnum, Plasma pistol, boltshot.
Battle rifle, Carbine, Light rifle.
Smg, Needler.
Shotgun, Scattershot.
Sniper, Binary rifle, Beam rifle.
Rocket launcher, fuel rod cannon, incineration cannon.
If people could just comment on some of these I’d be really grateful. I know I just put unsc compared to promethean compared to covenant, that’s because most of them have a unsc/covenant/promethean variant.
