Expectations for the campaign?

I’m just to know what are people’s expectations for the campaign in Halo Infinite. What do you expect to happen? Who do you think is going to be the enemy? What’s going to happen in the story? Just curious, that’s all!

Honestly they need to take a page from the recent movie, Bad Boys For Life. Before you tar and feather me, hear me out. Bad Boys II (which I enjoy as mindless entertainment) was objectively a dumpster fire. 17 years later, they didn’t make an academy award winning movie, but what they did was just stop all the “unforced errors” so to speak of the Michael Bay-ness in the second movie. That’s what I think they need to do here. Don’t try to get all convoluted, just keep it simple. Compelling. Let everyone’s emotions do the rest. Keep the Master Chief as the primary driver of the game, create some backstory for a secondary character so we care, kill of said character, and thoughtfully kick -Yoink-. Hence the Bad Boys For Life formula. Nothing grand, but a hell of a lot better than it’s predecessor.

I can honestly inagine a campaign more along the lines of how Halo Combat Evolved. Massive play spaces with a decent linear campaign. As for the enemy factions, since Cortana is still an issue at large, likely her and the created and either a completely new Covenant themed faction or the Banished since I heard rumors of them appearing in Shadows of Reach. Admittedly I was against the idea of seeing the Banished again after their lackluster performance in Halo Wars 2’s main campaign but the Spartan Field Manual imply they have alot more power and influence then what was seen in game. As for the story, I’m not sure honestly, Michael said that all of controlled space lost and that all they’re doing is revolting in Halo Bad Blood. And the early trailer implied they lost “everything.” Also, take into consideration that 343 has not been the most stable with their stories lately due to frequent crestive direction changes so anything is possible at this point.

I dont really have an expectation. I tend not to anymore with any game. I will just judge it on its own merits and see if its understandable without the need of external knowledge. Plus. I just hope its fun

I haven’t seen Bad Boys for Life (though I really want to). But I think you’re onto something. Just keep it simple, go with the formula we all know and love, and satisfy as much of your fanbase as possible. As a lore nerd, I’m fine with the games having mass appeal while the rest of the media dives deeper into the lore. There’s no real need to have deep and intricate lore sewn into the games when those who care enough can get their lore fix in other media.

I feel like we should have a feeling similar to when we landed on halo in CE, open spaces, vehicles, and a war campaign played against an epic alien opponent. I think the move to a service game model is essential to making this the backbone of future growth in the halo community. I think we can use this game to introduce future content (campaigns, maps, etc.) where we don’t need to buy a whole new game, this is a HALO PLATFORM that will draw the whole community to the new era of halo. I’m an idealist but If 343i get the gameplay, art style, and engine right, they could be the pathway for some of the best campaign experiences we’ve every seen, and we may never seen the end of them (infinite).

The campaign I hope will last at least 12/15 hours. Possibility of re-playing it, to unlock skulls, achievements and collectibles.
It must have a high-impact cinematic cut and memorable characters to remember for the next 10 years.

Desires/wishes/goals:

  1. Have a more compelling enemy to fight against than the Prometheans. Either substantively change them, or give us something like the Banished to fight against instead. I don’t want to spend hours shooting at the same angular, metallic robots, wielding angular, metallic guns shooting the same orange light/goo. Give us some diversity in art style, rank, weapon type, enemy personality, etc. like the old Covenant had.

  2. If you insist on keeping the Prometheans at the front of the story, please, for the love of God, make their story less convoluted/esoteric. The Covenant were great because they were compelling with a fairly simple story. It’s a coalition of alien races bound together by a shared religious pact. Cool…got it.
The Prometheans on the other hand?..after playing through Halo 4 and 5, I barely understood who/what they are. I had to spend a lot of time on wikipedia trying to discern who actually some robot/Promethean character was. The overly obtuse and grandiose dialogue doesn’t help them at all. Just speak in a somewhat comprehensible fashion please.

I’m going to try to go at it completely open minded and temper expectations so I can enjoy whatever it is we get. I have a strange feeling it will be good but staying level headed.

low, hoping it is better than halo 5
