Expanding infection mode to new possibilities

Ok so I posted this before but I failed and put it in the wrong spot so here’s my idea.
I heard around the forums that 343 is possibly working on game modes next month and I have a few ideas for infection that would open up a good amount of different games you could make. I’ve wanted these since Halo 3 and I hope if 343 see’s this they will possibly add it.

The wall of text is optional for more in depth explaination, you can just skim through the bullet points but bear with me if possible haha

My ideas:

-Option to have multiple teams of survivors in infection

This would be a RvB plus with the added threat of the infected. You have the option to kill the enemy or form a shaky alliance with them when you get jumped by a swarm of infected. You would be fighting for control of the weapons on the map and the team that doesn’t get anything good is left to wither. The objective is to kill the other team while also surviving but the catch is that every time you kill an enemy that’s another infected you have to deal with. You could also make options where getting killed by a survivor just results in a respawn as well or you can have a certain amount of lives as a survivor. When the last team is standing, a countdown will begin to the end of the match and if that team survives until then, they win. There could also be other options for winning but that’s just one idea.

-The ability to add objectives in infection

Objectives that could end the game if possible so you can create linear maps which end when the survivors reach a certain point. This would be good for creating l4d style maps. This could activate an evac timer aswell before the game ends or it could be a flag or bomb or core objective. A cool game you could make with this is have cops (the infected) defending a vault with a valuable item in it (the flag). The infected would have weak guns (but not too weak) and the survivors would be the robbers. Every survivor that dies becomes another cop that was called in for back up to defend the vault.

Combine them both and there’s a lot more options for games.

Let me know what you think, if it’s dumb or if you like it I’d like to hear your opinion.

Neat ideas. I remember a map on Foundry that was an Infection map with a twist. It was a maze, there were slow areas, fast areas, power weapons, obstacles, etc. It was great fun, and I remember the thrill of being the only one out of 6 survivors to actually make it all the way.

I really like the team idea, it can allow of working together or trapping people, etc. As for objectives, I’m not sure. It’d have to be something like releasing a cure, or detonating a bomb, or trapping the zombies. The Cops v Robbers sounds cool though.

VERY, VERY interesting. I’m all on board for the first one, but the second one would have to be a separate gametype. Maybe call that one Swarm.

Anyway, I feel that having the option to have multiple teams would add a neat twist. Have one that’s “classic” without teams, and one that has your idea, with teams. Call it S.O.F. or something (Survival Of the Fittest = S.O.F.). But I think this would add a nice twist to an old school game, as long as they keep the classic option.

Yeah I didn’t really think too much on the second one but I know a lot of cool things could be done with it. And I figure that this could just be the basic game mode of infection but there would be options in the menus for adding teams and objectives just so we can change every aspect instead of using preset game modes built from dev tools

So I guess the second one is pretty much safe haven but hopefully with more options available

I’d love to see them bring back infection with those items available, especially the cops v. robbers idea (even though I agree that it should be called something else)

They should have an infection playlist and then a community infection creation playlist which includes the most popular game modes made with infection. It could be like action sack but without all the crap like rocket slayer and stuff.

That would be awesome, I really want to see what 343 will do with the new Infection, because I’m fairly certain we’ll have it eventually. It will be interesting to see if they have things like Infected abilities, maybe the zombies can climb certain walls or something like that, I think that would be cool.

Yes I totally agree. Action sack could be an amazing alternative to the lack of a customs browser. Maybe every month players could nominate maps and gametypes from the community to go into the playlist aswell

If not you could set the custom game to give them higher jump or longer thrust or something to give them a small edge to able to make jumps that normal humans couldn’t

Pretty good ideas, especially the objective one, but I don’t think that the multi-team would work, because it would probably just end up being normal infection except with friendly fire that turned you into a zombie. Also people would just kill each other whenever they wanted more zombies to kill, just resulting in a lot of trolling and griefing.

I always thought it would be interesting to have 4 teams of 2 against 2 zombies to encourage teamwork as a means of survival. Good ideas, I like them.

I was thinking about this aswell recently. Multiple teams of 2 would make for some interesting and fun gameplay because all you have is your team mate and at the beginning it’s like a game of multi team but slowly evolves into a game of 2 vs everyone. I can just imagine the lone survivor of a team falling back into the shadows and struggling to survive till the end, either getting picked off by zombies or destroyed by other humans. It would really make you feel alone or put you on edge I think

There’s a gametype called Salvation that was made for Halo 4, you should look it up OP.

Basically the objectives you want as well as item stores and health bars on destructible objects as well as other amazing things.

Only problem is that it wasn’t official.
