EXP for playing the game

The fact challenges are the only way to gain XP is, quite frankly, a disgrace. There should be a base amount of XP you get from simply playing the game, otherwise the player is left unrewarded after completing all the challenges. I’ve finished all my challenges and now I can no longer progress in the battle pass, as such I feel there’s no point to playing anymore. Unless there’s constant new challenges after you complete the one you’re working on, you’re left with nothing to work towards.

The battle pass is bad enough that it’s even there, but making it impossible to progress outside of challenges is unfair and incredibly anti-player. I’d have thought 343 would’ve wanted to entire players to play more, not just crank out their challenges then stop playing until new ones pop up. The game needs XP for completing matches. It doesn’t need to be hundreds, maybe 50XP a match, to keep people interested. The fact you can play like a god and get nothing in reward for it is absolutely ridiculous, even in a “free to play” game. The monetisation in Infinite is vastly over the top and the XP situation forces you to either wait to play more or spend money to feel rewarded.

I agree it’d be nice to have xp gain while just playing, but keep in mind this is a technical beta and i’m willing to bet money that the number of weekly challenges we had available to us is just a fraction of what would actually be there, not to mention dailies

Agreed. I am hoping they fix so we can earn xp from games. Or larger amount for the challenges. I also hope the credits can be earned and not solely bought.

Nope… Challenges only is awesome. I have grown so tired of seeing players progress in Xp by going AFK or not doing anything productive for a win. All the way back on Reach on the 360 I remember a BTB snipers and we had a “teammate” who did nothing but ride a mongoose around. They didn’t get one kill and died like 16 times… Of course still gained xp. Fast forward to today and you see plenty of AFK players gaining XP for not playing or simply moving around enough(rubber banded thumbstick) not to get booted but yet gaining XP. Gaining XP by completing challenges is great. You actually have to play the game to progress.

Your logic is flawed. Challenge only XP still lets you get XP by being AFC/AFK. Challenge XP should add on to your performance XP. Challenge only XP gives no incentive to play the game after you are done with Daily & Weekly Challenges.

If the challenges kept refreshing after you beat them and didn’t just stop coming, I’d be fine with it, but it’s the fact you get four challenges or so a day then you’re locked out of progressing. It really pushes spending real money to progress. Folk can still go AFK for the “complete any matches” challenges. I’m sorry to say, but your take is wrong. You shouldn’t have to wait for the challenges to refresh to be able to progress through the battle pass, especially if you’re not someone who’s bought it, that makes it even less fair and fun. Getting nothing for playing the game will push players away, not bring them in.

Since the XP amounts from challenges are so low, I’d honestly take 10xp a match. Just something to incentivise playing the game a little more to progress. If credits can’t be earned, I’ll keep playing Halo 5 instead.

Well since this is a flight we need to tell them to let challenges be constant and remove or at least not the “complete” matches challenge come up as often. I wouldn’t be against there always being challenges available. But gain XP simply walking around in multiplayer as so many seem to do is for the birds.

The best way to implement this would be to give out XP based on your performance in the match and add the challenge XP to it. Having challenge only XP that give only 100XP at end of each challenge is too less. I finished all my challenges in the Test and now I am locked out of progress. I wanted to unlock everything before the Test ended. This has totally ruined my motivation to keep playing it.

Or get rid of the complete match xp… And have xp based on medals earned and challenges. That way game play performance and challenges are awarded and those AFKers gain nothing. MCC is medal based xp so something like that

making XP gained by challenges only isn’t the only solution to this, nor is it the best solution. Halo 5 has a perfect XP system that punishes AFK by not awarding XP if you don’t actually contribute.

If challenges refreshed constantly and didn’t just stop coming, I’d be fine with them. The game being a technical preview doesn’t forgive the aggressive monetisation, though.

That’s exactly my problem with it. Once you’re out of challenges, you’re out of progression. It doesn’t make me want to keep playing the game, it just makes me not want to play it. What’s the point? I’m not getting XP for being good at the game, I’m getting it for playing a few games a day. It needs to have XP gain from at least getting medals. Triple kills, overkills, double kills, that kinda thing should count towards progression.

It’s not a preview, it’s a test flight to report bugs and/or stuff that can be improved. So having challenges constantly refresh for each match definitely qualifies to point out to them.

I honestly just assumed that this was automatically gonna be added on later. Seems like the logical thing. More exp per kill and assist and medals. It’s gonna be there, this is just a technical preview.

XP earned at the end of a match should go towards the Battle Pass. I have run into instances of doing all my daily/weekly challenges and not earning XP for the Battle Pass for the rest of the day which is extremely annoying. I would think that adding challenges for doing the Academy would be a good addition such as completing a certain amount of trials with a 3-star rating so you can earn Battle Pass XP outside of multiplayer.

Definitely should be a thing or at least for winning a match.

I totally understand the whole F2P model that they need to make money somehow, but the way it stands - for me, it feels like it’s going to backfire…

I’ve found that once I finished the weekly challenge and burnt through the dailies, I didn’t want to “waste” any time playing matches for no reward. So I shut the game off and go and do something else until the dailies reset.

If I was getting at least something for matches based on performance, I’d carry on playing.

Then I’d invest more time into the game, felt I was getting something out of it, then more likely to drop a bit of money because i’d be invested in the game as a whole.

Right now, I’ve just feel like I log on, blast through the dailies in a few matches, then I’m out. I don’t feel invested at all. No way I’d feel like opening my wallet if this is the way it’s going to be.

I hope there is some level to player based xp given out. I want to keep playing but the fact that I can’t earn anything out of it sort of kills the experience for me. If they’re really panning for this to be the xp model for the full game then I can’t imagine myself playing it like I’ve played all the other halo games. Grinding for something I want is part of the fun, it feels like I’m earning it. This just feels like I’m progressing when they let me and when they want me too.

I, like many others, don’t have unlimited time. If I go for days or weeks without playing and then get a day where I can just binge for hours I don’t want my progression to just be halted completely because I’ve finished all the daily challenges. I should be able to continue to earn rewards the entire time I play. The idea that this is to stop AFK players is dumb, add a better reporting system then, or a better way of catching players that aren’t participating. If 343 wants a wide open F2P game then its on them to fix those issues not on active players to be hurt by it.

Right now it just seems greedy…

I hope they allow online customs to get some kind of mediocre xp. It sucks to play just as much as everyone else and get nothing for it.
