Honestly I’d love if they slapped halo reaches exact progression system in. XP per match, commendations based on performance and medals, and a Spartan rank outside of the battle pass. I wouldn’t care if the existing battle pass progression system for cosmetics stayed the same if I had a progression system for all to see in the lobby that at least shows the effort I’m putting into the game itself, any 10 year old who wants to whine to mummy and daddy for their credit card could make their character and account look more “accomplished”, if a secondary system showing rank from game to game XP progression on your Spartan profile it will give more more incentive for us to actually try harder at objectives/to get kills, at the moment I’ll be in an oddball game and only care about getting my 15x commando kills and not the objective itself. We need a system that accommodates for time and effort played, not just a “pay to win” or suffer through obscenely tedious challenges where you feel like you’re getting nowhere. On a side note I’m not bagging the gameplay itself, I love the game! But the progression needs to be fixed ASAP. And yes I’m aware they’ve already said they will, I just don’t understand why they didn’t think an uproar like this would happen from the community.
I think they did this to see how much they could get away with. This seems very slow and if we take into account completing every weekly challenge during Season 1, you’ll earn just a total of 115 ranks. Not enough to max out the Heroes of Reach pass at all.
I think they do this so that we buy levels from the store. Which shouldn’t be a thing. We bought the battle pass why are they doing this. EXP should as I feel go on a match by match basis with challenges as a way to fast track. But that isn’t what we got.
The solution was already though of. They are selling armor sets in the shop. O.o even if you complete everything there is no way for you to lvl the pass the whole way. So you will have to use the shop at some point to buy boosts.
I think my biggest issue is that we played for about 4 hours last night. In that time because of the challenges I had gotten I just made it to level 1. Meanwhile, my teammates were already way on the way to level 3.
The challenges are interesting ideas to get you to mix things up, but when you’re relying on either specific game modes (which I assume will be filterable when the playerbase settles down) or guns that either don’t seem to exist on specific maps or are constantly already taken it becomes a depressing experience.
Fortunately I’ve been loving the game as a game, but I’m legitimately worried that I’m going to resort to challenge swaps/level boosts to feel like I’m getting anywhere - who knows, maybe that’s they’re plan.
we should have a base xp earning for finishing each games, + bonus if we win + bonus if we did well
And additional challenges to progress faster in the battle pass
Just like the Master Chief Collection.
Spot on! Even worse is when the premium pass with 25 tier skips costs almost the same as a full price game!
Just because most modern shooters use the same system doesn’t make it right! Be better 343
The battle pass still needs working on as well though… I don’t want to have to focus on frustrating challenges if I want better armour. I’m assuming this other system is only going to serve as a displayed rank and thats it, they won’t mess with the battle pass and make players have to spend less money.
343 and Microsoft just need to be a little less money hungry and dial back the aggressive f2p tactics that clearly hinder the game… fair enough they want to make money off their product but this is not the way to do it
Perfect xp gain was already a part of the game with kills and medals. 343, you’re killing your game with these challenges because doing well in the actual game doesn’t matter anymore.
Agreed, we should atleast be getting CORE XP per medal or per game - even Hearthstone has a better battle pass than this, and that one was ripped to shreds. If no changes are made, it will just deter me from purchasing future battle passes.
Yeah agreed, I played for probably 5-6 hrs and I’m not even past lvl 2. I also got kinda annoyed because I had a match where I got my first killtac or higher (was to in the zone to see what it was) and because I didn’t complete any challenges that match I got nothing.
The way of earning XP through challenges in the flights was way more doable and I didn’t really mind that much that I wasn’t getting xp per match always.
Yep… had games with overkills and killing frenzy’s and didn’t get jack for them because I didn’t have challenges relating to how I play the game… sorry i didn’t want to camp vehicle spawns and hope i can manage to splatter several people or get a kill with that mauler gun thats on like 2 maps? and is utter garbage against pretty much every other weapon in the game
I agree. This XP system seems a bit backwards. We need a per match XP system or Effort based XP system, and the challenges should merely be a top up to your average score.
I think the plan was always the Nov 15 MP launch, so they never had time to implement a new system. But how anyone thought that a challenge-based only system was a good idea is beyond me.
Well, not really. Obviously, this system incentivizes the purchase of challenge swaps. Do I want to kill 3 wasps? NO. Do I want to get 10 Ravager kills when that gun is useless? No. Thankfully, getting Repulsor kills off the edge of a map is not hard to camp on Recharge.
But you are right. The system actively incentivizes players to ignore the objectives and just play for their challenges because that is the only way to gain exp. Why should I grab the oddball when I need to get kills with my Mauler? Playing games like this is unfun. I have the same problem with Destiny, where I feel forced to use weapons for bounties that I would rather not be using. But in Halo, because this is the only exp system, it is much worse and much more oppressive. It needs changing asap. Top priority.
I agree 100%. The current system is just far too grindy to be any fun.
I know that was my feed back from the tech previews was that it needed passive XP from just playing matches and earning medals. Hopefully they implement soon…ish.
It does seem to take a while.
This right here, summarizes the whole problem of the game for me. They made a progression system that has nothing to do with enjoying the game.
I agree, but they did say they were working on a separate progression system. Once that is implemented, i think the only thing they’d need to do to rectify the battle pass system is at least double the rewarded xp for challenges
I’m in favor of improving the system in the way that rewards players for performance. It will incentivize players to perform well and play the game mode objectives resulting in a better game-play experience for everyone.
I see some people saying the system was designed the way it is currently to push people towards more micro-transactions. I hope that isn’t true - we already have to purchase the battle pass for $10
