I don’t mind if the Battle Pass progression is super slow and grindy, but give us proper Spartan ranks with high xp ceilings. Halo MCC has an xp ceiling of over 1.2 BILLLION. If Infinite is a 10 year game, make each medal count towards that separate progression system. Or better yet, give us our score each match towards our rank, but make challenges the only way to make progress on the battle pass. They could make the xp cap something crazy like 10 billion or something. This way 343 can make their money, but people can keep grinding for something.
It’s incredibly frustrating to get challenges related to destroying certain vehicles and you have to be lucky on a map that has them and even then you may never get a chance to kill those three enemy ghosts because you’d have to camp a power weapon for that.
The same is said for particular game modes that again, you need a lucky dice roll to have your match be that one, and hopefully win with your team as well.
Didn’t 343i say they did not want halo infinite to become a secondary job, yet it takes a days worth of grinding to get past 2 tiers
The latest update actually nets you less XP by completing matches unless you play 25+ games in a day.
The progression system needs to change, it needs to be rewarding for playing well for example if I capture the flag twice, I should be rewarded for that if I get 10 kills, I also should be rewarded for that now if I kill someone with a certain type of weapon, it should be just an added bonus, also you have objectives like play capture the flag 3 times, well there is absolutely no way to select the type of game I want to play so it takes 15 games to do that. A progression on rewarding a player to play the objective should be the main way to progress through the battlepass!! A better example:
10xp per kill
20 xp per killing spree
20xp for a reversal
25xp per killing an enemy carrying the flag
1xp per second of carrying the ball in oddball
25 xp for killing the enemy carrying the ball
25 xp for double kills

Definitely agreeing with everybody and just throwing another body at this. Way too slow, it needs to be performance based. You can’t keep your heads in your brown holes about this and keep trying to force the challenge system. It sucks and everybody hates it.
This really needs to be performance based. There are some “win x” tasks but they are too few and far in between. The per match XP is given regardless of the outcome. Game is fun either way but the fact that wining is rewarded the same as losing and leaderboard positions such as top scorer are not rewarded in any way brings motivation down. It is an interesting thing psychologically. If you remove the battle pass entirely the game is fun, but if you add it and do not reward people adequately for the effort it suddenly becomes less interesting despite the fact that you get rewarded either way.
Also, the challenges themselves force people to do stuff that is harmful for team performance as challenges give many times more XP than the match itself and a large chunk of them requires you to do something that will get you consistently killed.
Also challenge gating is reeeeally bad. For example, i needed oddball game mode and in 3 hours i got it only once.
343i will do nothing about it
Even with the progression patch, i still think it is too slow, it has taken me 6 days to get to level 15, and once you have run out of weekly challenges, it takes 20 games to level up, 10 if you use an EXP booster.
I am extremely disappointed with the progression after playing for the first time today. The battle pass felt like “work” just getting from 0 to 1. Nuts. 20 games to level up!!! Very disrespectful. Please fix this, please.
+1 to this thread. XP progression is not great even post-patch. I took the week off for launch and wasn’t even able to get all my weeklies done because I have 3 related to banshees and have been playing BTB but not camping the spawns for the chance at a banshee. I realize everyone is getting the visor because of the first week shenanigans but it still sucks not to be able to complete all the challenges. I bought the Halo Xbox and don’t see myself playing this game for a long time unless there are drastic changes in this regard.
Love the game, I wish that we got XP based on a few factors (Very much like how Halo Reach)

Wins VS Loss [Currently we have 50xp now per match. I would like to see 50xp for a match, 50xp for a win. Would give a reason to winning a match and award hard work]

XP based off of medals earned [Like in Reach, certain medals award XP. Say double kill is 5xp, triple 10xp, and snipes could be worth 10xp. Or something similar]
-XP Per kill or per objective taken, and assists. [Getting flat XP per kill would be nice, and of course assists. Say 5xp and 2xp] so say a 20 kill game with 14 assists = 128xp (+ 100 for a win) This would feel rewarding
With all of that said, you could scale the battle pass a bit instead of being a flat 1k you could make it every level requires 50 more xp to level, so level 1 is 1k xp, level 99 is 5,950 or 6k… somethin like that. Also, feel like being able to purchase battle pass levels is absurd. Allow players to buy specific skins and such, but battle pass levels? Once you buy the whole battle pass why even play the game (For those who want to collect all the skins, and of course, the ones who would buy levels are the ones who would be more inclined to level it in the first place)
I also would like to see a player level, that takes ALL xp ever earned and states a profile RANK. Like in Halo Reach. I know I Know, I’m a fan of Halo Reach, but yea lots of other online competitive games have a base rank. So I feel its exclusion is odd.
I would also love to see some base rewards fro actually OWNING the full game. Say a Spartan 117 armour coating for all cores, or like a 117 emblem/badge, or maybe an original halo CE assault rifle model/skin thing.
I also would have liked for players who took part in the flight to have gotten at least one thing that shows that off… ahha but w/e
Side thought. Ranked matches, higher rank = higher XP given per match (IN RANKED GAMES) or per kill but idk bout this one
Progress was accelerated in the flights since we only had a handful of days to play. This was mentioned in a video or something. In retrospect, they should have been MUCH more clear in that communication.
I agree. I think they made it easier since this post, however it still is pretty slow. I think something that would help greatly is XP for medals. So say you get a double kill, that is like, 10 XP or something. That way it’s not just challenges. And they might be working on that already, but I think that would really help.
Honestly I dont think they should change the XP earning system THAT much. It’s just a matter of “skill based XP” imho, challenges could easily stay as they are right now. But cmom, I got Plat IV rank and during all the promo matches I barely went from lv3 to lv4. Some matches I go over 30 kills with lots of medals and a great kd ratio and all I get are 50 xp points. What a joke
Personally I never cared about experience points. Just ranking based on wins v opponents.
I find the annoying hologram/outline effect and bad gameplay feel and look is way more important to deal with. Which 343 obviously won’t. I’ve already lost interest mostly and there are no fixes in our control for this terrible look and feel of so much of what the game is about.
As of now the 50 exp earning per match is not good it should be about 100 - 150 xp
At 100xp it would be 10 matches to get 1 level instead of 20 a level and mind you it’s 100 lvls
So yah we need a better way to earn XP please do this 343
I definitely think we need an additional daily challenge that gives 100 exp if you win the match. Keep the 50 for just playing, but encourage us to win our matches.
I know this is getting fixed in the future, but just throwing my 2cents, so I can say I tried. It is frustrating to see your battle pass level go up so slow. It feels bad, not focusing on objectives because there are challenges to complete. Challenges that promote teamplay, IE CTF captures and objective based challenges are good IMO. But as of now, the playlists are so locked down, it’s very difficult to achieve much.
And in all honesty, I am not a very strong player. I haven’t played any FPS consistently for many years. So for me, to complete these challenges takes multiple games at this point. I understand skilled players deserve to get a little extra and a skilled player will get 100% battle pass where as I may get 80-85% through. I am not averse to spending a few dollars to get that 10-15%…its like 10-20$. At this point though, I feel like it may be impossible to keep up, even with 2-3 hrs a day playing. By the time I get back to being “gud”, I will have missed out on 50% of the content.
Now, another alternative is, if we purchase the battle pass, why not make it permanent? Example, let me select which battle pass I earn rewards for as long as I purchase them. If you pay for something, shouldn’t you own it, or at least have access to it? Because on top of season battle passes, there will also be multiple timed events. Things like this frustrate me the most…pay for content, try to complete content, oops, too late no more content, weeks over. Sorry if you needed to deploy, or sorry if a family emergency happens or whatever. Microsoft does not need to be so cheap, that they need to time gate “primary” content every season on top of bonus events like the event next week.
Gonna be honest I’m burnt out on this game for the moment. It’s definitely going to be a great multiplayer, but with no motivation on progressing I’m already burnt out on the grind. If I could come home after work & put in 5 games & get up one rank each time, then I would feel like it’s worth my time.
