I feel like this game is so close to be one of the best Halo games, but 343 always makes little adjustments that end up hurting the overall game. This BP system is one of them, it reminds me alot of Battlefront 2 old system.
So I’m still feeling like I have to go out of my way to pick up a weapon, if it that weapon even spawns in the match I’m playing in, and try to get a kill with it. Yes, it’s 1 kill, but you’d be surprised how hard it can be to get 1 kill with a weapon you don’t typically use in multiplayer matches. You guys may use those weapons often, but I don’t.
And the daily challenges, “Play any match” is even worse than before! Keep it as it was. I was expecting the XP required to be lowered.
And I still would like to earn XP from the matches themselves.
This system is just not good. There’s 0 incentive to actually win games - sure, you might get the odd “win 3 games of CTF” challenge but for the most part most people on your team aren’t going to have a challenge to win the specific mode you’re playing and they’re going to be running around chasing whatever challenges they have that they can complete during the current round.
Halo has always had a problem with people not wanting to play the objective and this just compounds the issue massively. It’s abundantly clear that almost nobody is playing the objective right now because they’re chasing specific menial challenges, and ontop of that people are clearly leaving matches because they’re not getting rounds where they can earn XP at all. I imagine a lot of people will be doing that when they have XP boosts going and don’t want to waste them on matches where they physically cannot earn XP.
I won’t complain about the grind itself nor do any number crunching because I’m sure there’s plenty of that up and down this thread already, so let me just conclude by saying that this system promotes bad behaviours and does nothing to incentivise good ones. Moreover this system just isn’t fun. The key thing about Halo 3 and Reach’s progression systems that a lot of people seem to forget is that they were fun to engage with. They enhanced the game, they weren’t something you simply tolerated. It’s not fun to earn a level a day. It’s not fun to play multiple straight matches where you don’t or sometimes can’t earn XP.
I could say a lot more but I won’t drive the point home too much, just wanted to leave my two cents. I will round off on a positive note by saying that aside from the progression this has been an extremely promising (and well executed) start to what I think is an excellent game. I’ll be honest, I had very little hope for Infinite, and it feels great to be proven wrong. Especially after spending 3 straight mind-numbing days playing -Yoink!- Battlefield 2042.
Still slow as hell, thought we were getting xp for completing matches after the last hotfix, I have not seen any affect of this.
I’ve played about 20 games & still only on level 3… wish we had xp system similar to Halo Reach.
Is it possible for us to get something similar to MCC progression system?

Agreed that the XP system is too slow. I would also add that the challenge/XP system simply isn’t fun to play. The challenges disincentivise playing the objective across all gamemodes, instead forcing players to seek out specific weapons, or rack up kills, or simply to get the match over with whether they do well or play well with others, or not. I worry that this is destructive to the health of any gamemode as well as frustrating to play whenever you don’t quite accomplish a challenge (e.g. picking up the specific weapon required and then being killed without a chance to use it; this would likely feel like more of a challenge if the weapons required were only power weapons, which are clearly marked and designed to be fought over by both teams)
It has been less than a week and I’m already feeling fatigued by how much of a grind Infinite’s multiplayer progression is. The addition of 50xp for completing a match is pitiful when you consider that it takes 20 matches to rank up a single time, if you don’t go out of your way to complete challenges. I feel that there should be rewards for playing well, playing the objective, playing cooperatively with your team, and perhaps bonuses for interesting medals/accomplishments in a match. I don’t want to be forced to play game modes that I don’t enjoy or have interest in, purely for the sake of getting any XP at all, and I don’t find the weapon challenges exciting or interesting either, which effectively boils Infinite’s multiplayer down to a grind of filling out checkboxes that lack any meaningful or fun gameplay consequences.
Perhaps the challenge system should be designed to provide large amounts of bonus XP for (very) optional/tricky objectives that reward creatively interacting with the sandbox, or achieving fantastic feats (think grapple-jacking vehicles or using the repulsor to throw grenades or objects into other players, or sword sprees), while the meat-and-potatoes of XP earning is done by playing the game for fun, and having the freedom to choose what that looks like.
This is really my only gripe with the game honestly. I’ve played about 30 matches while completing challenges and I’m just now getting to pass level 4.
It’s slow we know that but what about The double XP boost time. should works only in multiplayer, doesn’t matter if I wait one day or one week the time Booster shouldn’t continue running
In battlefield 4 any consumable or booster example (1 hour 200% XP boost) if you stop the game or if you have to go to school or take a sh… even if you change the game that booster or consumable is not running.
I tested waiting 2 days and my booster still there on Battlefield 4

I played the beta and honestly progression seemed faster in both flights. Maybe I’m just remembering wrong. But I agree with many of you, this progression sucks. And this patch that now gives us 50 points for playing? Slap in the face IMHO. I don’t have 40 hours a week to devote to this. I have a job and a life. It’s sad that all the cosmetics are locked behind a paywall. If this is what we get for it being Free-To-Play, then stick it back in the main game and let me buy it. The challenge system would be fun IF it weren’t the only way of earning XP. Honestly, this entire system needs and overhaul. I said it during both flights and I’m saying it again.
I cashed in a bunch of saved up MS Rewards points for playing stuff on Xbox and bought the regular Battle Pass and you don’t even get any XP Boosts like you did in the flights. Those at least made leveling marginally bearable .
Why they strayed from the known and quantified system of getting points for doing things in match and challenges were that little extra bonus you could tack on top of your hard work defies logic.
The excellent gameplay itself is marred by the XP system and the Battle Pass and locking cosmetics behind a paywall. I play games to have fun and this just fatigues me. Hopefully they have plans to launch a rebuilt and massively adjusted system before launch. They have the time to do so.

The way the current ranking system works isn’t the best. I do wish they had more of a model like the MCC where you can work on BP, but it also has a separate rank as well. Something that actually feels like I am progressing and moving forward, and not grinding my way through a BP that takes days to rank up one or two ranks.
There is no feeling of being rewarded for just playing the game when it comes to the battlepass and that can only turn off players from purchasing the pass.
Exactly! Even I find myself at times getting bored because there isn’t an incentive for playing other than the battle pass, which to me, isn’t enough alone to keep me grinding away at it. I hope that changes are made accordingly…

I do think after the update they put in, it has got a lot easier to level up. However, for somebody who will grind this game a lot and want to level up as fast as possible, this is where the problem comes in. The XP progression basically limits players after a certain amount of challenges/XP awarded. That should be fixed.
Also, they should add in extra XP for the winning team, just my thoughts!
You’re right, the flight BP was alot faster. I was almost done with it, just with the little amount of time we had to play it.
