EXP earning is way too slow

Its so painfully slow
The worst part for me is it forces you to play how the challenges dictate. And you can have a challenge for a specific mode then play several matches and not even encounter that mode. ARGH

Wrong the hot fixes are a bare minimum I would have rather paid for the multiplayer than get a half baked multiplayer experience hopefully halo dies with infinite and they can’t beat the dead horse any longer

Make winning matches the most significant way to earn XP. That will incentivize players to play the actual objectives / game modes properly thus making the best game expereince.

I just hope you can get XP in the campaign.

If we don’t get XP or challenges specifically for the campaign I will be incredibly disappointed. Also if we don’t get any kind of reward or bonus for PAYING $60 FOR JUST THE CAMPAIGN, I can’t imagine the outrage people will have.

Could you be more specific what I’m wrong about?

  1. it’s good to see 343 addressing this (don’t assume I think the tweet gets even close to solving the whole issue)
  2. that they are giving us the weekly reward
  3. this thread dried up fast

If you think halo is already dead then what are you still doing here? I guess if you are hoping for it to never come back then maybe you spreading your negativity is how you do your part.

It isn’t just “Too slow,” the XP system as it stands encourages people to play the game in a way that hurts matches. If your only way to get XP is to use a weapon that doesn’t make sense for the situation, or to play a specific match type, everyone else on your team is gonna have a bad time. It’s mind boggling they thought this was a good idea.

I also agree one thing that I just thought of is to take into account your score in-game so I just played a match and earned 1675 and if that gave me 167 exp so that how good I am in-game gives me exp and it’s already there. So the breakdown is a kill is worth 10 exp and an assist is worth 5. I feel like this is the easy dirty way to do it that would work and off of games alone you would get a level in about 10 games which I feel with the challenges on top of it.

Yup. It’s brutally slow.

Not a bad idea, assuming you only play slayer

More like stop playing overall.

While I’m glad it’s been noted, they aren’t saying anything. If anything, they’re talking about adding/reworking challenges. Not actually giving a proper leveling/xp system (As we’ve had in EVERY other previous mainline Halo Game, such as MCC’s list). This challenge-based progression system doesn’t work for this type of game, while I applaud them for trying to give us something new, it’s clearly not right for this style of game. Since challenges as an ONLY way of gaining XP is not in line with the objectives/matches.

If they want to fix this, they need to look backward at MCC for example. It had a seasonal thing too, and it worked. It had challenges, and also normal progression and it worked. THIS, what is in Infinite right now. Doesn’t.

I fear for this game’s Multiplayer if they don’t outright replace the progression system with the old one. On that topic, that is actually the only way to go. As there is no reason to give an additional progression system on top of this poorly thought out progression system.

They keep wasting hype with poor releases stop defending 343

Ok cool, thanks for responding but not answering any of my questions. I don’t understand how you’ve interpreted anything I’ve said as defending 343.

+1 just to add some pressure on this issue.

I played 3 nights now and am still level 2.
In Rocket League I would probably already be at level 20

Challenges should be a bonus, not the default.

However:
I don’t share any worries about “killing the Multiplayer” with this system.
If you just play Multiplayer because of some digital cosmetics, something is wrong.

I believe that the challenges themselves also need to be changed. They are way too specific and cause players to really change the way they play. This can get toxic really quickly as people stop caring about playing the objective or working together. They only care about getting kills with a certain weapon or in a certain way.

As an example a challenge like get X kills with battle rifle should be. Get X kills with a precision weapon. And get X kills with sidekick to get X kills with any pistol.

Challenges work as a progression system but they need to be done right. They can become wrong and hurt the game very quickly.

Unyshek has given the following response to the overwhelmingly negative BP experience:

To address the feedback on Battle Pass progression we will be making targeted tunings to our model later this week.
To start, we’ll be adding “Play 1 Game” challenges to help make sure you consistently progress through the
Battle Pass by playing matches the way you want.

We’ll also be adjusting, fixing bugs with, and removing some Weekly Challenges based on your feedback. These tunings to challenge difficulty will help you progress through Weekly Challenges faster and thus directly speed up your progress through the Battle Pass.

When we make this update, we’ll need to reset your Challenges, including your progress towards Weekly ones. To make up for this reset, we’ll be granting this week’s Ultimate Reward, the Sigil Mark VII Visor, to everyone who logs in from Nov 23 - Nov 30.

Additionally, we will be doubling the duration of 2XP Boosts to now last 1 hour as opposed to 30 mins. We hope this helps people get the most out of them, especially during those longer BTB sessions.

We’ll be watching these changes closely to make sure they have the positive impact we all want on your progression. This is only our first step - we are committed to continue evolving these systems but it will take time. Thanks for joining our beta, and keep the feedback coming!

TL;DR
Every match will now award 100XP. Bugged challenges will be removed and fixed. Some challenges people didn’t enjoy are being removed based on feedback.
As they will reset all challenges everyone that logged in from 23-30 Nov will get the weekly reward regardless of challenge completions.
XP boosts will last 1 hour.

Very true.

Right now, the incentive is to complete (often hard to accomplish) challenges for very few exp.

This causes my teammates (and myself) to go for the challenge instead of going for the objective, which is highly frustrating.

I mean “Shoot a person with the sniper while flying after being lauched with the grav lift” leads to camping for the sniper.

Solution: Exp for playing every game, exp for having good performance toward the objective, exp for winning, much more exp for the challenges.

Also, you should get 3 challenge swaps a day for free or something similar.

I don’t know if that 2XP Change will be that much beneficial. It just means that people end up playing even less BTB, because the matches take longer etc. and with them having a 1h duration now, it makes even more sense to play Arena for quicker matches in together with the “infinite” 100xp game match challenge. I feel like this change just forces people that want to maximize the XP regardless of if they play the gamemode that makes most fun to them to switch over to Arena.

It would probably be better if 343 either making the challenges less weapon-specific like in MCC or making the challenges easier but requiring more kills or objective medals. I haven’t really had much problems leveling up, but the last couple challenges are practically impossible since the Banshee practically never spawns
