EXP earning is way too slow

Well at least I’m seeing a lot of pushback against the system.

As for my 2 cents, I wanted to give the battle pass a try and paid for it, but now I’m instantly regretting it. Progression as others have pointed out is painfully slow and at time to the point of nonexistence. I don’t want a system that’s based on random challenges. The core challenge is the goal of the game itself. Slayer? Shoot people. CTF? Capture the thing. Having to ignore the actual gameplay just so I can kill 3 people with a spork?

To take it a step further all of the store items are a ripoff. You can pay as much as the actual game for a handful of cosmetic features and a battlepass that gets you nowhere. Oh wait, we can buy exp boosters? With real world money? Lol okay now I see where this is going. We’ll give you this stuff eventually so long as you keep playing (read: paying). Give us a little something on the side and uh…maybe we’ll give it to ya a little faster.

I like customizing in Halo, but I doubt I’ll ever bother purchasing another pass again if there isn’t any significant change. I understand the need for income to keep the game going, but we really need to be getting something for out money.

Slow xp sucks, but the way the challenges encourage you to laser focus on one or two things instead of playing the game is ruining this experience for me. Stop being so stingy with the challenge swaps at least…

It’s been a few hours now since I have completed all of this week’s challenges, and now I am barred from effectively garnering any further experience for the next 6 days. Being dependent solely on challenges for experience MUST NOT be the way to go, because now I have zero incentive to continue playing till next week. With this model, you will lose the player base as they have no reason to play until they can continue progression.

Yes there’s technically the radiant challenge of “win 3 games” “play 3 games” and you get anywhere between 100-200 xp, but that is by no means motivating when that’s like 40-50 minutes of time for just a sliver of experience. With that, it’ll take all afternoon to just progress one level as is.

It is pure and raw necessity that we have a performance experience, otherwise the game will suffer in player activity. If there is no driving force to motivate players as they cannot progress, they have no reason to play the game. The multiplayer that is, obviously.

Worst part is, these 2XP boosters are worthless if you’re stuck in loading screens for half of it

I’m very disappointed right now. Just had a double XP booster that literally doubled NOTHING! If you’re going to tie your ENTIRE progression system to challenge tasks, you NEED to not screw people over on the boosters. Maybe make it go into a “sudden death” mode. If the XP is zero it lasts until at least SOMETHING is earned or the half-hour is up, whichever comes LAST.

LMAOOOOOO!!! Just loaded into bot slayer for the first time and the Fing were flexing on us with Yoroi and Sht!!! F*ing classic.

Never change 343. Never change.

Wait, your saying you have literally zero incentive to play the game because you completed all the weekly challenges already?
You and I have very different reasons to play this game. How about you now go play the game however you want instead of a challenge telling you what game mode/weapon/vehicle to use. Congratulations, your are free for the rest of the week.

i agree with you if you get rewarded by playing good game its good and then for the challenges you can go to casual playlist not ranked to do them. But the trick is if people level up too fast they will earn everything fast and wont have things to do and leave and come back next season. I think some cosmetic items need to be only for people with high rank like in Halo reach. I haven’t played the game but i guess if you find it to long you can still pay for it people do it in other games plus halo veteran are more here for ranked playlist than cosmetic. In my opinion cosmetics are more for the younger audience

I agree I don’t like this new system, I want to have fun and do the challenges, for the most part, ain’t fun for me, and now I’m not feeling I’m progressing even if I did a good game. Why we can’t gain XP with all we do, your score, Medals, etc…

Yes, I fully agree.
For one, just to earn progression through challenges and not with just playing the game is wrong. I love halo and love this game as well now but this issue will be the main core of that will draw people away and not have a strong player base over time. Please fix this 343 and joe

Wait is it only one challenge at a time? Iam sure I’ve had stuff lower down the pile unlock?

I could maybe get if it was tiered so that early levels required a lot less XP but the later tier stuff did take work. At least Iam assuming it’s a 1000 for each level.

I reckon they probably will change this. An easy interim fix is to make a recurring daily of play one game get 200xp and a stacking one for killing Spartans that goes up in increments of 10 for a 100XP. That way you can just level up by playing the game and the weekly is an optional item.

I just don’t understand how they could go from what I thought was a great progression system in MCC to this pretty garbage progression system in Infinite. I mean, I guess I do understand since it’s all about making money. But it is just so baffling to me.

I think they genuinely didn’t expect it would take 3 hours plus to level up. Part of hooking people surely is showing what you could have? The pass is clearly based on the CoD Warzone one so you would expect the timing to be in line with that. In three months plenty of people will still pay for boosts as at a 100 ranks that’s a lot of work. People who really want that gear will buy it. I mean I’ve never completed a CoD battle pass.

Yeah the xp and progression system is awful they nees to fix it immediately

What makes halo so fun is that you can play any way you want. Being forced to complete these challenges means I can’t play how I want to. Also I end up losing games because I’m so focused doing a stupid challenge. I should be gaining some xp when I play hard and win the game…

No, it’s like 4 or 5, and you can unlock an extra slot if you buy t he battle pass for $10. Issue is you can have almost a ‘lockout’, or close to it. For example I currently have:

  1. Capture a flag
  2. Complete an Oddball match
  3. Get 3 kills with the pulse carbine
  4. Get 15 kills with the Commando.

Seems straightforward, right? Wrong.

Played last night and NOT A SINGLE CTF or Oddball match came up. So those slots were dead weight.

Then, pulse carbine isn’t on every map.

So I found myself camping the Commando spawn and forcing myself to use it even if the situation didn’t make sense. I know I could just ‘play the game’, but then what the heck did I spend this $10 on? Considering asking fit a refund, even if that’s not possible.

Not to mention that last night once I got my 3 pulse carbine kills, the challenge didn’t register.

While, I too, am someone that plays the game just to play the game… good games have a reward system of some sort. especially with a shooter! it’s core to game design to have something for the player to earn or work towards. I personally despise challenges, and how they force players to work towards an objective that isn’t necessarily in line with the match they are in. I’d much rather see a ranking system like Halo 3 or something, where if I see a 50… I know I’m probably gonna get rolled… but if I see a team of 10-20s, I might be able to do a little rekking myself. The battlepass is not a true progression… it’s a way to earn some extra goodies (and I wholeheartedly agree that the free tier is garbage, and the progression being via challenges-only is garbage). Even COD has had it right for years, there’s your character progression, and then there’s the battle pass progression… completely separate. But playing a match contributes to both, regardless of meeting specific challenges. And if they’re not going to add a character progression, then they need to be better about letting us track stats and medals… because that will be the only thing that can be used as a “hey, you had a great game, you did a thing, here’s a cookie!” and as a gamer for over 20 years… I like cookies.

Challenges need to promote playing the objective or just being proficient. Challenges to compete in ranked for example doesn’t make any sense for 90% of the player base. The progression system as is, is going to kill the game so quickly. They need to fix this really really soon.

  • XP for individual performance and proficiency
  • XP for challenges universal to most game modes
  • XP for ranking up gear and weapon challenges

What baffles me is that they didn’t get this right, it’s a battlepass shooter, its not a new concept.
Feels like at the moment they just want us to buy progression with points that cost real world money.
