EXP earning is way too slow

I think the blog they posted said that the pass accounted for the longer time frame. My understanding is that there are more levels with this pass then there will be with future passes. So, I expect the rate of progress will be the same for future passes, unless 343 changes something in response to all these complaints. I’ll have to go back and read it again.

In Halo 5 and MCC you can unlock cosmetics at a steady rate through your req points and season points respectively. The rates of those barely change and can even be buffed through boosts and seasonal challenges respectively. Only the overall player level slows down and that isn’t tied to very many cosmetics in either game.

Please implement an alternative way to earn xp. Performance xp, match xp, something. I played 5 hours last night and got 2 levels. I have a 5 day a week job and a girlfriend, between these two I don’t have the time to grind like this. If you don’t implement a change to this, myself and others are going to go another halo game using customization items we don’t want because we can’t unlock the cool ones we like through normal progression (looking at you halo 5 rng demon). Please implement a xp change and don’t lock all the cool armor behind grind and pay walls.

Yea we’re being slowed down wayy too much by Match type specific challenges.
And since we currently have no option to queue for specific game modes, alot of these matches are dead in the bag until we randomly get it.

It took me 3hrs to complete the Oddball one for example.

You have to drink coffee everyday and not get sleep to finish the battlepass.

(ps, someone already bought their way through it.)

Problem is I’m almost done with my weekly challenges and barely at level 5. That’s insane and basically the game telling me to stop playing till next week

The fact that the Battle Pass lasts until MAY tells us everything need to know. They know what they’re doing. I blindly bought the pass and I realized it’s a grind filled with mostly garbage, almost half of it are challenge switches. This needs to be fixed, and I hope they’re working as fast as they can on a progression system as well, because it’s not rewarding having a high score game and a win and seeing zero progression.

Agreed.

I’ve played Halo in the past occasionally but this does seem to drag on and tbh its kinda putting me off investing in the Battlepass.

The XP progression honestly has made me not want to play after just one day. I want to earn XP from just playing the game and having fun, not by waiting forever just to get lucky enough to have the right game type and then hope I can complete the required challenge.

I don’t mind challenges that make you try new things, but making them the only way to progress (and then making it PAINFULLY slow progress) is absolutely mind boggling. Why would they do this?

Not to mention that XP bonuses are basically completely useless. You pop a bonus then get stuck with challenges that you have to get lucky to get the right game type or get a match that even has the right weapon. Absolutely ridiculous. Honestly frustrated I dropped 10 bucks on this crap. (not to mention the pass has very few items even worth getting)

Here’s something I believe would satiate this problem, at least to an extent.
So basically you have a maximum amount of xp you can get for playing a match, not including challenges, and that is decided based on how well you do in games. So if it’s an objective game and your team wins and you get a bunch of points then that will probably max out the xp you can get for playing, etc.
I think this would be fairly easy to implement without completely overhauling the battle pass progression system, while also giving players something for just generally playing well. And you could even not give out xp if the player doesn’t get anything, kills/assists, etc.(to fend off the afk boosters)

I’m going to be honest. I dropped $100 on in game currency before coming to the realization just how bad the pricing was on a lot of the items in the store. Why does it cost $20 for some armor and a coating that is only compatible with one core?

I played from around 4pm to 3am. I really enjoy the gameplay. It feels good. I even got the deluxe battle pass and got sent to level 25. But after almost 12 hours of gameplay I only leveled up 8 times. Holy crap. I’m not always going to be able to play 12 hours a day. I’d have to crank out 150 hrs at day one pace to finish the battle pass with the current challenge progression. It completely ignores all the killing streaks, multi kills, and objective plays. What’s the point of an in game scoring system if none of its going to be used toward progression?

Amen!

It needs to be more like MCC where you get XP for the things you accomplish in the game. If I get a double kill or a triple kill I should get some -Yoink!- points for that. I score the flag or plant the bomb I should get XP for that.

343, lets make Infinite the same way. It would be much more fun.

The game needs some sort of per-match exp. I would prefer something along MCC where your performance dictates how much exp is earned such as medals, objectives, kills, etc… This incentivizes people to play the game and play it well.

I’ve got around 20 ish matches under my belt in the beta now and can confirm that many players are NOT playing the objective. They’re chasing progression from the challenges from a certain weapon or a certain type of kill instead of capturing the flag, holding the oddball, or returning seeds for stockpile. Every match has been TDM for me basically and it’s frustrating.

When you couple that with the fact there will be times you wont get an exp for 4 matches or more it feels like you’re not adequately progressing or working towards something. It sucks to end a match on a high note and see that you didn’t actually get rewarded.

That and with double XP boosts, I was able to reach level 7 after about 8 hours of game time. This is a lot better than some other stories I am seeing but I also found myself going for the challenges instead of playing and enjoying the game for what it was so that I could progress.

I agree that earning experience points only through challenges makes progressing through the battle pass too slow. I think it pressures those casual players to buy credits just to unlock battle pass levels or to purchase the premium battle passes. The challenges should be rewards for those players who play often and the regular humdrum of multiplayer needs spicing up. The current system already feels as grindy than Halo 5: Guardians (minus random REQ Packs).

i agree there should be some form of reward for good work in a game for example xp towards season pass, i found myself after 5 hours of gameplay not really wanting to try or do as good in games because there was no challenges that pertained to my game mode removing the enjoyment and reward for doing good in a match.

It’s even harder to earn XP when you can’t choose input-based matchmaking for social games. SOCIAL games. I’ve pretty much gotten used to telling everyone in the match ‘enjoy your bots’ right before I leave the match. And that’s not to keep my score or whatever high, it’s because, despite the promises of this game FEELING fun, being forced to use a controller against mouse and keyboard players is incredibly frustrating. The problem with Halo multiplayer is that there isn’t a place for people who want to play casually and not be toxic and all-around horrible human beings like the majority of players I encounter in Halo multiplayer. So enjoy your bots.

I bought the battle pass before even playing the game because I’m a huge halo fan all the way back to CE. I wouldn’t have bought it had I known how bad the leveling system was. I won’t get another unless it’s fixed.

I totally agree and I also think the fact that the only way to earn xp for the battle pass through challenges is garbage. I feel forced into doing challenges just to level up my battle pass, it feels like a job. I want to be able to play Halo the way I want to play, I want to have fun doing the things I want to do while still earning xp. Also where’s the ranking system?

I was talking to my buddy about this last night. All they need to do for per match XP without totally screwing the XP economy is implement performance XP rewards.

What I mean by that is assign an amount of XP for a win (25) and loss (10). On top of that, based on medal rarity, associate XP with them. Common (5), Rare (10), Legendary (15), and Mythic (25).

An argument could also be made for granting per kill XP or per “X amount of kills” for XP.

Obviously you could fudge the XP amount a little but my goal with the numbers to allow for progress each match without absolutely blitzing through the pass or making it super sweaty. Your challenges are still your main XP gainers but you get amount of XP while playing and are rewarded more the better you do, which has a good likelihood of being more than a single challenge.

I am hoping that with this being the beta, they will have a fix or a response for us on this topic. I just think you need to have XP based on metals, kills, challenges etc. I’m sure this wont be an overnight fix but I would hope that they at least give us something saying they hear us.
