Can’t progress without challenges is terrible. Teamwork is none existing in objective based games because they want to get the challenges. There’s 11 be 1 to get specific vehicles/weapons on your team. Then you have the other team how am I suppose to get Challenges. Therefore can’t level up. I went 23-4 with 2 flag captures and only got 150 XP….
Just wanted to jump on the bandwagon in hopes of pushing 343 to make changes; Hopefully before official launch since right now is technically a beta. Anyway, Challenges are very unrewarding and need to have one of several things happen. 1. XP payouts increased as they just are simply not enough. 2 adjusting the difficulty of challenges but only if 343 refuses to adjust XP payouts. If neither of those could be done the 3rd option isto change the amount of XP that each level is worth but that seems like a bit of a headache. for those that have already unlocked levels of the BP. Adding Per match xp would be a great solution too. 100 xp for a loss 200 XP for a win I think would be a decent amount.
I concur with it being too slow. I get no benefit of doing good or bad and only sometimes for a win.
I also thought there would be more accessable from the start especially after getting to check out a bunch of armour and skins from the flight.
This isn’t that bad if we compare it to the offline cR payouts in Halo Reach*. At the initial rank, you will get 50 cR/10 min played which means that you need to play for 25 hours (minimal active playtime) just to reach the first rank (Private). However, the story differs slightly if we allow Xbox Live features like Matchmaking, Challenges and Commendations.
Based on this examples, a long processes to rank up isn’t something new to Halo.
*Most recent patch for the game.
Way too slow. Challenges are fine, however people need to be given xp after each game regardless of challenges. Also a separate progression system from the battle pass would keep new players. Fingers crossed.
Just wanted to add a thought. I realized that there are ultimate rewards for completing the weekly challenges. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that only further incentivizes the want to complete these arbitrary challenges, and forgo the actual objective.
Furthermore, I recently got the “Ranked PVP” challenge. Hopped into said ranked match, but then realized that I can just hang out and throw the match if I really wanted to. I didn’t win, but I tried my hardest, as did my teammates. Then BOOM, 0 EXP!
Just wanted add my voice to the noise. I can get behind the XP for the tasks, but there has to be something for just match completion, as well. Hopefully 343 will change it once the game is officially released.
Do the math homie. 3 hours per level at 100+ levels is too much grind. 1 hour per level is about as high as you can go. It really should be about 30 minutes per level imo.
progression systeme really sucks
Wow. If they add per match XP in the next season, that will be way too late and have huge player decrease. Next season doesn’t begin until May 2022. They need to add it now. Make it so we get 100xp per loss and 250xp per win.
Progression at this point is ridiculous. If 343 is adamant on keeping the challenge only system, below are a few suggestions.
-
The idea of per match XP is fine, however per match XP should not be harder to get as you play more, that makes no sense, and specifically disincentivizes long play sessions. Equal per match XP, awarded after every game is necessary
-
Per win bonus XP, doesn’t have to be much, even 20 XP on top of the per match XP would be sufficient I think
-
Restrictive challenges such as kills only in a Slayer game should either be scrapped (if choosing gametype isn’t an option) or specifically choosing the game type you want to play should be an option.
-
Some kind of performance based XP gain. Doesn’t have to be much, even 10 XP for being top half in points in the lobby or something.
This needs to be done before official launch, no question. The current system will for sure result in a huge player dropoff quite quickly who simply won’t care to try out season 2 in a few months.
Yeah, I really thought when I was playing last night that something was wrong. Then I did a quick google search and realized that battlepass XP is only gained through challenges. I really hope that they come up with a solution for this. I can not think of a single battlepass that only levels up via challenges.
Outside of this though, I have to say that this has been a fantastic experience and certainly feels like the Halo I have always loved.
Yeah and next season they also said is coming in May 2022. That is way way way too late and the game will bleed a significant amount of players in the first month. It needs to:
- Kick afk players
- Reward people for winning (100xp for losing 200xp for winning)
- Reward individual performance.
- Allow people to turn off AIs individually instead of All voices.
- As long as you can’t choose your game type, there should not be challenges tied to specific game types.
- Add the ability to choose what you want to play. If I want to only play domination and slayer why should I be punished with stockpile?
- Don’t punish players that want to keep playing by increasing game completion challenges after every completion. (This encourages people to afk.)
I like the gameplay it is fun and all but everything else surrounding it really makes me worried for infinites future especially since it plans to be the future of Halo for the next 10 years thanks to it being a live service.
I did the math homie (based on my experience of 2hrs to get 1200 points, others seem to have similar results as me, but a few claiming to take longer) I assumed 500pts/hr too come up with roughly 8 hrs a week to max before the next pass launches. Is this a lot for an average player? Probably, but it ensures those that play more will still be progressing 3 or 4 months from now.
Agreed, it’s unfortunate that the stellar actual gameplay is being overshadowed by the abysmal progression system. A+ to the devs for the general feel, gameplay, and pacing of matches. But a solid F for whoever came up with the BP progression system.
I mean, at this point I feel it can only hurt them financially. The battle pass is the main paid MTX item, and if progression through it is awful, nobody will want to buy the paid battlepass, the decisions made here make zero sense.
To that I’ve heard people say “well, it’s to promote sales of the boosts”. But when you have time limited boosts, and the challenges are a roulette wheel of whether you’ll even have the opportunity to complete them (random gametypes etc) then nobody will want to pay for boosts either. Just baffling all around.
But you have to realize that rate is you specifically trying to complete the arbitrary challenges. 8 hrs a week of playing like a normal person won’t net you NEAR that amount.
Maybe they should’ve added a proper long term player progression (which I read they may have started working on) rather than spreading out the Battle Pass (i.e. the only current progression besides ranked) instead of spreading a 2-3 months Battle Pass out to 5+ months?
Just because we have 6 months to do something doesn’t mean the thing itself should take 6 months of everyday grinding. In 6 months I could complete THREE Call of Duty Battle Passes AND still be working on the overarching prestige player rank system.
Actually I paid no attention to the challenges in my first few hours because I don’t care. I’m was loving the game play and enjoying actually playing. It wasn’t until I saw all the complaints that I started looking at my progress and the challenges.
I keep hearing that this is a problem. I think they would do well to make it much faster.
Based on this principle, you will get very disappointed about the ranking system when you do reach the later levels in Halo Reach, Halo 5 and MCC where it may take days of active playtime just to reach the next level.
For me, I’m undecided about Halo Infinite’s unlock and ranking system due to the fact that I haven’t played the game sufficiently. However, before I will attempt to build an informed opinion about these aspects, I will attempt to compute the total number of armor customization combinations and compare the number of combinations to other relevant Halo games.
