Existing File Share links are broken

I know the site is still being updated and all but it seems all of our existing links to file share content is now broken. Can these links be restored? There are many community sites with thousands of map listings for Halo 4 and because of this new site update, all of those thousands of listings now contain broken links. Secondly, can it be easier to find the file share and file browser as it was before? It took me some time to discover the file share and file browser was under “Halo 4 Stats” on my Halo 4 page on Waypoint. Thanks.

Is there information on this yet?

This doesn’t just apply for the file browser - most, if not all of the older Waypoint links don’t work

Looks like both of us are very concerned about what they are doing with the browser right now. Based on what I’ve seen so far Waypoint will be less useful for sharing content.

Would anyone happen to have an old-style URL to a file that’s still on its author’s Share? I want to compare the old and new URLs and see if there’s an automated way to convert from one to the other.

Bear in mind that I’m not part of the web team. I only know as much about this particular matter as the public does.

Here’s an old direct link to a gametype on my file share called Shuffleboard (check it out of you haven’t played!): https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo4/fileshare/details/db66df4e-9181-4966-b8da-5d221f7ad589

This is the type of link that will bring you to the file regardless of whether or not it was still on the file share. I don’t have any of the type that only work if it’s still on there (has the mini-window on the page). If you could get that to work that would be awesome. Folks at HaloCustoms and YouTubers/Forgers with map features are not happy right now.

Thank you.

It looks like the same IDs are in use; the URL format has just changed. Compare:

https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo4/fileshare/details/db66df4e-9181-4966-b8da-5d221f7ad589
https://halo4stats.halowaypoint.com/en-US/Halo4/TurbTastic/fileshare/db66df4e-9181-4966-b8da-5d221f7ad589

The file will load and display off to the right regardless of what gamertag is in the URL. I think the gamertag just determines what File Share the Stats App tries to load on the left side. With that in mind, converting links from the old format to the new format should be fairly simple. It’d be nice if the web team would set up redirects, but any fansites able to edit their own code should be able to set something up to autoconvert URLs.

Replace this: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/games/halo4/fileshare/details/
With this: https://halo4stats.halowaypoint.com/en-US/Halo4/UnspecifiedGamertag/fileshare/

That said, I’m seeing more than a few issues with the new system that are going to complicate things:

 • Seems like the only way to get a hyperlink to a file in the new File Browser is to click one of the share links. Be ready to open up Facebook, Twitter, or your email client!- Seems like you can’t access someone else’s File Share. The UI will say you’re viewing their Share, but you’re actually still in the public File Browser. So that’s kinda butt.

Your adjusted link worked for me, but I could only see the first few letters of the Send and +Add buttons. I can screenshot if you want. Hopefully a good redirect will be in place soon.

Were they covered up by a panel on the right side? It should have a button labeled with a double chevron (">>"); click it to get it out of the way.

That panel doesn’t cover that much of the page for me, but I’m on widescreen.

I clicked the >> and it moved the panel over, but you can see what I mean on screenshot below. Ideally direct links to maps or gametypes would bring your attention to those first.

I hope this issue won’t take as long as the Halo Reach leaderboard to fix.

As of now, with HaloCustoms anyway, map links can be updated within the restriction on format with the new url.
However Gametype urls still use the old-waypoint url format, so cannot be updated. The only way to allow for a gametype download link to be displayed is by adding it to the overview page itself rather than HaloCustoms’ inbuilt structure.

Both map and gametype obviously use this format:
halo4stats.halowaypoint.com/en-us/Halo4/wizton/fileshare/id

As with the id’s, the format is the same:

 • e075bb01-35ba-4c6d-ae3d-672ec64205fa <- Map ID- 668a0e96-9b0d-4692-88df-cf8bea7decf2 <- Gametype ID^ Both use: 8digits-4digits-4digits-4digits-12digits

So why the gametype format errors is just of strange restrictions towards the urls on the site.

I don’t consider it such a problem to put in these new urls, it’s just HaloCustoms that needs updating for the gametype link.

However, if the old waypoint link could just forward the user onto the new waypoint link using the same id, that’d be of some use. If that’s possible, I have no clue.

I have just made some modifications to our map posting framework on HaloCustoms to allow gametype links from the new Waypoint file browser. You could have contacted HC staff directly about this, Wiz.

Would there happen to be any news on this? I know there is a way to link them using the ID formats with the new page but is this the final alternative? I know Halo 4 isn’t as a populated game nor a favored game but it would be nice to get these links back in proper order as, like I said, many websites and many, many more video features use the old links which are broken and I doubt anybody would have the patience to change the amount of outdated links that exist. And like somebody said in this thread, you can’t access anybody’s personal file share anymore. In my opinion, I find this unacceptable at this point.
