Real quick, let me clarify that I’m speculating here. SIs and Monitors aren’t privy to any special information here. We’re in the dark, just like you.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people here are very concerned about some of the new additions that GameInformer mentioned in its Halo 4 feature. A lot of you think that these ideas will completely ruin Halo. Some of you think that we’ll end up with a Reach-like situation, where traditional Halo gameplay is branded “Classic” and relegated to a small corner of Matchmaking.
The trick is this: we know that these new game mechanics will exist, but we don’t know how prevalent they will be.
That is to say: something like the Forerunner wall-hack ability might not be implemented in all or even most Slayer gametypes. For all we know, it could be Campaign-exclusive, or it could be something designed specifically for minigame designers to use in Custom Games. The same is true for the random/rotating power weapon spawns, which could be relegated to a few “New-Style” playlists. Some of you have suggested that the new features be restricted to a “New-Age Halo” playlist; for all we know, that could already be the case.
…Just something that occurred to me last night.
Good post, this may ease tensions for and calm down those willing to listen! By the way, how did you produce that beautiful ≠ symbol? No, never mind that, I can just copy and paste it now. Thank you very much!

Charmap, good sir. Charmap.
Hopefully people will read this. It makes a lot more sense than most of the threads here.
I just hope the removal of more game feature’s like FireFight and playing as Elite’s isint as prevalent as we have seen so far.
good post bro. and your statement can even be kind of backed up by the statement frankie made about the instant respawn thing that you cant use it in objective games.
I reeealllly hope you are spot on here. i heard some rumors that all those “new” elements of the game are part of a separate section of the multiplayer. like an H4 version of Invasion, separate from the rest of matchmaking but people could just be grasping at straws on this one.
> The same is true for the random/rotating power weapon spawns, which could be relegated to a few “New-Style” playlists. Some of you have suggested that the new features be restricted to a “New-Age Halo” playlist; for all we know, that could already be the case.
I want to believe!
That’s what 343 will say after this huge backlash, just to cover their a55es…
“Oh yeah, we meant it to be in Campaign all along!”
> I just hope the removal of more game feature’s like FireFight and playing as Elite’s isint as prevalent as we have seen so far.
they are removing power weapons from maps and adding a drop in drop out feature and your worried about elites… (sigh)
It’s only natural for the community to be skeptical about these things after what happened with Reach.
We all just care too much
Good thread.

Yea my most pressing worry is Elite’s. Because the change’s all have an [off] switch in custom’s. Hell they might even give us a classic playlist without them. But I cant just turn [on] Elite’s now can I?

Good point.
I’ve noticed, though, that there’s no way to keep Elites from having a combat advantage. Give them the same hitbox? Then people will take advantage of the fact that their visual head isn’t where their real head is, like they did in Halo 3 SWAT. Give them different stats? Then they have a distinct advantage, and have to be relegated to specialty gametypes like they were in Reach.
There’s no way to truly please the Elite lovers while keeping things balanced, so I think 343i was going for a “just tear the band-aid off quickly” approach. I can see how it’d be upsetting, though.
343i is showing a lot of promise. This game looks to be extremely enjoyable. the biggest plus for me is the increased movement speed and jump height as well as the removal of bloom. Apparently, it’s not on any weapon, including the Assault Rifle. That’s cool.
As for the Campaign, we get to fight the Covenant as well as an entire new faction that we have yet to see. I’m so excited. It also means we will have three complete styles of weapons to choose from.

Aye, I saw the higher movement speed in the videos and… Even just watching it felt like Halo.
I don’t know what impact the new features will have on it, but from what I saw in the trailers, it didn’t look so bad – either because the features worked, or because they weren’t in use. Either way, fast-paced Halo will be returning in some form, and I’m happy about that.
This topic is a breath of fresh air in a sea of smoke.
Hey there, Mr. Cobb. Been a while since I’ve seen you here. I’m glad to see someone else who thinks this way. It’s something I’ve been trying to push around since the GI information was posted online.
If you haven’t heard, the instant respawn won’t be featured in objective games, giving credence to your theory.

yea, but 343’s work on reach hasnt exactly set a good track record for keeping gimmicky nonsense out of matchmaking.
this ‘prevalence’ point would have a lot more weight to it if it was applied to halo reach. unfortunately this really isnt the case. we see gimmicky nonsense scattered throughout nearly every playlist.
and if these AAs are implemented even remotely close to how they are in reach, your argument becomes ‘how prevalent will these trashy mechanics be in halo 4?’ so even 1% prevalence is failing.

They did finally remove Jetpack from Arena, if that of any relevance.

theres only so much you can do to update a title. they werent going to completely remove everything that sucked…so they did what they could. bye-bye bloom…adjust movement/jump…introduce another weapon. there really isnt much else you can do unless you want more of a backlash, so take the middle road and go to the drawing board for your next title.
it seems that is somewhat what they have done…to an extent
