The first thing that caught my attention was the music in the Making Halo 4 vidoc.
The very first sound you hear brings back the ending of the concept art trailer. Remember the 4 high, vibraphone-esque synth notes when “Halo 4” showed up on the screen? Those come back in the new video, slightly modified, when we see Chief getting into the cryotube. It makes me happy the concept art music made it into the soundtrack.
Also, I like how when the strings enter in the beginning, it seems like it’s going to be a repeat of the “Wake me When you Need Me” track from Halo 3, but it goes a different direction. It’s interesting, because the music has a dreamlike quality at the beginning. It has a happy, wondrous feeling. But then at 0:51, it goes into a darker progression. That’s what I was wanting to hear.
Then throughout the rest of the video, it evolves into what we heard in the “Working at 343” vidoc, but with more layers and interesting elements. Very Halo, but very new. When I first saw those words, I was unsure. But after hearing this, I’m convinced.
I can’t wait to hear about this mysterious new composer, and I can’t wait to hear more of this music. Halo 4 is looking to be a great game.
Thoughts on the music?
Yes. Finally someone else who understands. The music starngly gives me hope for some reason though.
PS: 50 made me…you know what.
Yes, it sounded beautiful!
Everyone’s been saying the music is bad. I LIKE THE MUSIC.
Awesome. I’m glad there are others willing to discuss the music rather than complain. I made this post earlier and it was buried by complaining posts within minutes.
The music leading up to 0:50 reminds me of a dream sequence. It made me visualize some cryo-sleep dream sequence in the very beginning of the game, then at 0:50, the dark, cold reality of him waking up in a derelict ship starts to come through. Something along those lines.
I also… did the same thing at 0:50. That involved a pants change later.
I’m kind of hoping for 343 to at least let us download the tracks that have already been kind of publicized by videos… (such as Working at 343i, Making of Halo 4) because I really do think it would be a better way for the fans to get used to the music… As well as us hardcore fans who just want to kick -Yoink- in games with that music playing

Absolutely. I’m hoping they’ll pull a Bungie with Lone Wolf before Reach came out.

That’s pretty much what I’m hoping for. I mean, it worked out pretty well, and seeing as they haven’t revealed who the composer is yet, why not reveal it by letting the fans download the songs?
I totally agree. the music actually got me really excited.
On a side note this is my first time really visiting these forums. I used to visit Bungie.net but until Destiny is revealed it is really boring over there. Are the forums here pretty decent?
I did like the music. However, if they preserve one track I hope they keep the Halo theme (they probably will). I say go ahead and re-orchestrate it however you like, but it needs to be there and be recognizable still.

Well the negativity level on these forums is way the hell over 9,000. That’s why I made this thread, to talk about something that’s NOT “OMGSPRINT I HATE HALO 4”
And I agree with you, Captain. The main melody definitely should play a part in the soundtrack.
I loved it. ODST dared to be different with it’s music and was great. i’m hopeful, i have listened to the Video a few times in the background, it’s awesome!
