Evolution of the series

People claim that series needs to evolve. I agree. It, however, cannot do this through modernization. Halo was great because it was a trend-setter. Remember when CoD had a game mode that copied Halo? That’s because Halo was a true innovator. These are some innovations I think could really make for a good game without any of the gimmicky things in the beta like ADS, Ground Pound, Thrusters, Sprint, Clamber, et cetera, that would both feel different but fundamentally “Halo.”

  1. The ability to pick up some objects.

Obviously not everything, but some smallish things. You wouldn’t be able to shoot, or if you could, you would be wildly inaccurate. Melee would only work with the smaller objects, and no bonus melee damage or range. I feel like this mechanic could lead to power positions being both earned and created. Like imagine a crucial piece of cover that spawns top mid on Lockout being fought over to place on S2 or BR3, or used to block entrances to slow attacks. It would take power positioning to a whole new level.

  1. Combat Training

Not quite the same as Combat Training from Black Open, but similar. Would have the ability to play with people on the same team, but not against them. Would have no effect on multiplayer, would not be matchmaking, and would be its own game mode similar to firefight. Could select up to 8 bots on each team at the 4 campaign difficulties with the same game mode settings as custom games. Purpose would be to hone aim and learn spawns, so you don’t have to get stomped in matchmaking to learn these basic skills. Not to mention, its a lot of fun just to chill out with friends killing some bots on Easy.

  1. New innovative weapons

This is like the third time I’ve said this, but what about something that temporarily places holes in the geometry? You could shoot through, grenade through, or even just make creative new lines of sight. Or what about some sort of teleporting gun? If anyone has played Minecraft, imagine the Enderman’s eye item. It would be balanced as you couldn’t shoot while you had it out because its your weapon, but could create some interesting outplayed scenarios by shooting behind people. Only problem is that it could be seen as a get out of jail, but remember its found on map and you have to switch weapons to use it, so its not necessarily free or easy.

All of these were thought up in an hour or so. 343, is this the best you can do?

Those just sound like gimmicks that don’t actually evolve anything. Sorry, but I prefer better movement options like the ones in Halo 5.

That exactly what those movement abilities are…

Don’t know about that, they make moving across the map far smoother than it has ever been in Halo in my experience and leads to some interesting ways fights are done with guns and melee. It’s that or pivking things up, bots and new weapons? The last one is a given and the first two don’t really change much.

Well, that’s the point. Its supposed to stay Halo. Halo was never defined by low TTK and absurd get out of jail free’s. Besides, isn’t that what Halo 3 did to Halo 2 but with Forge, Theater, and Equipment? I haven’t ever heard anyone say that those two are too similar to each other, nor did I feel that I wasted $60 upgrading to Halo 3. Also note: these are just a few suggestions, not a complete list.

Forge radically improved custom games and had a profound impact on matchmaking all the way to Halo 4 with the community being involved in creating new maps and gametypes. Theater was a big first and again spread custom community content like screenshots and film clips. Equipment didn’t last long, I liked it, but I wouldn’t say it evolved anything major.

And these things wouldn’t do that?

The irony in this sentence is overwhelming really.
