Evolution of arena shooters

A lot of halo fans are dead set on not changing the winning formula and think going back to what halo 2 was all about would put halo back on top when tbh it won’t. Sure a lot of ppl here would be happy the “purist” would praise but the player count would still drop next time COD drops not because of halo but the arena sub genre itself has BEEEN dying. “Every one” wants clases, Thank god 343 said eff that! A lot of things are very forein to us but halo is a position to give the arena sub genre some lifee. There are forums with ppl who were not the biggest halo fans but are huge arena fans and are loving the beta. “We” are the halo fanbase the beta still plays like halo at least to be it does but I’m not gonna lie and say it’s not different but it plays like a solid arena shooter. If we can stop begging to go back in time and help shape this game we could end with an amazing but yes different halo. The BUNGIE era is gone whether that’s a good or bad thing is all opinion and you have MCC if you don’t wanna help shape 343’s halo

Bump

Bump

Population will drop when other games come out because people like other games too, not because the arena shoot genre is dying.

And stop with the self-bumping.

Halo was never going to stay the same for ever, especially when the FPS market changed or is changing.

> In terms of the Halo vs other current shooters on the market, I see Halo’s diminished longevity due to three things: it has a steeper learning curve, it has less customization (with regards to the classes and such you mentioned), and is less visceral and therefore, in many players eyes, less immersive.

> Changing the above things about Halo diminishes the game in my opinion, but it looks as though that’s the direction the developers are heading towards, unfortunately.

I agree like a game loses its identity trying to attract new players. I just feel like 343 is trying hard to balance both those spinning plates. Because i doubt MS is saying make a perfect halo game that all CURRENT halo fans will love. No they are looking for a system seller a sales pusher, new players. And 343 seems like they they are really trying to do both and I gotta respect that and it still feels like halo. But some COD play will def see it and be like ouhhh I can be good at this and fall into the trap

Go back and play Quake Arena, go ahead Ill wait. I can bet that you will turn it off in about twenty minutes and never want to play it again. Being nostalgic for the old glory days is fine but the gaming market and scene is ever changing and titles like Halo, COD and Battlefield are always trying to adapt and give its fanbase newer features and gameplay experiences. I have MCC and I can tell you that when a Halo (one) multiplayer map loads i cringe cause I know that I will be limited to just a few weapons and movements.

New features bring pluses and minuses, people adapt to them and learn to exploit them with time. After Halo 5 drops and it has been out in the wild for 4 or 5 months come back to the forum and see if you still agree with your opinions.
