> As for the ‘its just a number people’. yeah of course it is, but so is your golf handicap, or the place you finish in the football league. It’s not something I’m going to tell to the girls in my classes, but it undoubtedly makes any game more fun when there’s something to aim towards, particularly when it’s significantly affected by whether you win or lose, unlike cR.
> Arena is win/loss. Your independent rating does not matter and is only for show. Objective Arena would be fine.
If this is true (I have my doubts) then their should be a rank section of the playlist, containing all the standard gametypes with arena implemented…and then the social gametypes on side. I’d be happier with that…

Yeah it’s true they made the switch to win/loss after Season 2 I believe. I completely agree with Arena expanding to other playlists. I don’t see why it hasn’t happened yet. Ranked and Social playlists need to be balanced out like they were in Halo 3. Doubles Arena, Snipers Arena, Objective Arena, FFA Arena, SWAT Arena. All that good stuff.
As I said at the start, people boosting/deranking is not a reason to remove the 1-50 system. First it would be near impossible to derank in reach where quitting is much more bannable and more easily detected.
Second if you’re worried about derankers who will make you lose, PLAY WITH FRIENDS.
After a few months when you realise your school friends suck, find some people on the forums or on fansites who you want to play with. I honestly could not believe that people actually searched in team doubles or team slayer by themselves back in halo 3.

Well the only 2 problems I have with arena are:
-Only 5 divisions. I know it’s not 1-50 but come on! their are more than 5 different skill levels in Reach.
-The fact that if you stop playing, your rank goes down. That just seems a little BS to me…
Also if this does happen each playlist should have seperate arena divisions. For example, gaining a division in slayer shouldn’t affect your division in objective.
On another topic, what happened to those playlist specific ranks in Halo 3? I know they were pretty pointless but they gave you something else to do

Ha those sub-ranks? Those were odd.
Yes, there are only 5 divisions, but there are one hundred percentiles in each one. This further distinguishes you from other players in your division. I had a 50 in Halo 3, but I never knew how good I stood against other 50’s. You couldn’t really tell who the better 50 was. Now let’s say you reach Onyx, the highest division. It doesn’t stop there. You keep fighting to the top of that division. I am currently 5% Onyx (haven’t played in awhile) and it’s pretty darn hard to reach the very top 1%. It seemed like everybody had a 50 in Halo 3, but only a handful of people reach 1% Onyx. I find it much more difficult and fun.
I haven’t played Arena for about two or so weeks and my division placement is still the same. Idk much about that topic, though. Besides, if the ranks were permanent, it would promote cheating, selling top Onyx accounts, deranking, and second accounts. Arena pretty much gets rid of all of that. Don’t get me wrong, I still run into host booters every now and then.
Arena can’t be abused and I find it a near-perfect system. The problem I have with Arena is the gameplay, but that’s a whole different issue.
Hmmmm…interesting. 1-50 was just the much better system and attracted tenfolds the amount of people The Arena did. I hope they use the Halo 2 ELO 1-50 if they do I loved the way the ranks were like progress bars it was so cool =)
I’m hoping they don’t replace Arena. It has more than twice as many ranks as 1-50 and it’s a much more accurate representation of how you compare to everyone else. Other than that, the two systems are very similar.
There’s obviously a few flaws with the current setup (more playlists should be moved over, Arena ranks need to be much more prominent, jetpack should be removed from the 4v4 playlist, etc.), but it’s nothing that a TU or even a playlist update can’t fix. There’s no need to go back to a less accurate system if the current one can easily be improved.
