The Act Man sums up the flaws PERFECTLY in his two part vid. For those of you to lazy to watch it I’ll summarize it as best as I can.
-
No exposition or intro to the plot of the story- Why are the Prometheans and covenant fighting, who is fire team Osiris, what are they doing, who’s Jul M’dama and why should I care about him, who’s the guys with the Master Chief, why is Master Chief in this location? - Unnecessary/ Random Fight Scenes- Fight scenes don’t represent anything in the story and are mainly there for action scenes. Example- Jul fights to defend himself, Osiris fights because they were ordered to, literally no motives, no backstory. Fights are also sloppy, dumb and boring. Example- In the Jul cut-scene, why are their only 3 elites guarding Jul, isnt he the commander, or am I missing something? Why does Jul take 20 seconds to react to all of his soldiers dying? Why does he fight so sloppy? What happened to the phantom in the beginning of the cut-scene, why didn’t they help? As someone pointed out in the past, the Master Chief and Locke cutscene looks like to obese men fighting over the last big mac, very uncoordinated and slow fight. - To many static characters and flat characters- Characters offer no emotion and no personality, and the small personality that they show are revealed in inconspicuous ways. They provide no changes to the overall plot and are just there for filler, - Halo 5 does not follow Halo 4- Say what you will about Halo 4 but it had a story building up and then was nowhere to be found in H5. What happened to the Janice key? Why was Jul killed off so quickly after building him up? What happened to not being a machine, when in fact5 Master Chief seems more machine than ever in H5, where are all the internal conflicts such as Palmer despising Halsey etc etc. - The characters provide no major outcomes to the plot- With an abundance of characters you would think a lot would somehow affect the story, well you’re gravely wrong. For example lets look at Tartar Sauce from Halo 2, imagine if he wasn’t in the campaign, if he was removed, imagine how different the story would be, the prophets would have brains but not brawns, the Sanghelli might have never been banished from the covenant, and much more. Now lets look at the Warden Eternal, how much would the story change if he wasn’t there? Not much really, in fact the campaign would be much more enjoyable as the Warden always appears whenever momentum begins building. There are so many cases of characters not affecting the plot in any way shape or form and that is a big mess up by the writers at 343.
Also yes I know who Blue Team and Jul M’dama is. hTe every day casual might not know however
I think he nailed some of the most important points, but I think there are a few other things he hasn’t mentioned. The plot itself, being Cortana returning (why?), and becoming space -Yoink!- with the rest of the AIs is very uninspired, and has nothing to do with any pre-established Halo lore. And what about Halsey and Palmer suddenly being best buddies now? Didn’t Palmer throw hissy fits every time somebody mentioned Halsey’s name?
And Halsey was somehow seen as a traitor to humanity… As much as I hated that, and am glad that she’s not seen in that negative light anymore, that whole plot was just discarded.

Yeah he disregarded a few things but it gets the message across none the less. Halo5 had an absurdly laughable campaign it baffles me how uninspiring it is.

I agree. Halo 5 is without a doubt the most disappointing campaign in any Halo game. The hype and build up for it was incredible, and we were guaranteed a story that was going to be fantastic. But to see all of that fall apart… It sucks.

I honestly dont have any compassion for Brain Reed he ruined not only mine but millions of other people’s childhoods. I hope he gets what he deserves (fired) and hoepfully we can rebound from this somehow.

If you want to really sit down and read a well done analysis and critique of halo 5 story, you could do worse than Haruspis’ level by level analysis, he pretty much sums up all my thoughts on the plot and more. (Though if you want a you can just read a smaller post about the lies in the game here )
But yeah, halo 5’s story was frankly offensive to fans.
I agree with everything The Act Man said but like Hotrod said also, it’s really the complete total crapping on Cortana’s legacy that was truly the most upsetting part of it, to me anyway.
