Whining, I know, but I’m feeling more MCC than Infinite at the moment. Infinite multiplayer is slick and competent, but I don’t really want to jump back in on weeklies now.
I played around with some custom game settings to see if I could determine why, and found a trio that seems to feel like a lot more in the right direction:
Weapon Damage Ratio - 80%
Grenade Detonation Radius Scale - 80%
Motion Tracker Inner-Ring Scaler - 80%
It doesn’t magically fix everything, but it feels more like the Halo I’m looking for. Like Halo 3, I guess.
Reducing weapon damage by 20% gives a fraction of another second to kill times in which players already melt almost instantly. It gives enough of a delay in AR kills to consider switching to the Sidekick once their shield is popped (30% is a little too much though - takes almost the entire mag in an AR to kill at that). It also increases effective health for vehicles, which do feel rather fragile. 20% across the board does break weapons designed for very specific health values, but it feels more my speed for a lot of weapons.
Reducing grenade radius by 20% seems to put an end to the nuking that they currently do. At 100% it’s possible to see a frag coming and still not be able to do anything about it. The actual damage is fine, just the radius is a little nuts.
Motion tracker is down 20% because it’s busted in custom games for some reason. Default in customs is 30 meters when matchmaking is 18. At 80% in customs it’s 25-ish and I have no idea why anyone would want it less. It might as well be disabled at below 25 for how little it can show. At 25 the tracker gives you a good idea of where the next fight is without knowing exactly where everyone is.
Again, none of this is a magic fix, but it’s just me thinking the current matchmaking stats are off balance and that a better version of the game exists somewhere in there with a rebalance.
