After updating my game the audio and text is all in german? Why?
Probably because of the “intelligent” installer.
I too ran into this problem today when I got the urge to continue my unfinished Halo 4 campaign. I haven’t touched the game for some months now, so I was a bit surprised when I fired it up and saw that all the menus were in german. My system language and locale was set to Finnish, so I thought the game had decided to use german language for some inexplicable reason instead of english. So, I quit the game and changed the system language and locale to english, rebooted the console and fired up the game again only to find that the menus were still in german. This time, however, the system offered to install some english language pack for the game. I accepted it and restarted the game after the language pack was installed but the menus were still displayed in german.
So I uninstalled the whole thing and reinstalled it from the original DVD. And of course I am not allowed to play the original game from the DVD, no, now I have to wait for this “fine” update to download and install again. Fortunately, it would seem that this time the menus are in english and I hope they stay that way even if I change the system language and locale back to their original settings.
So instead of spending a couple of hours playing the game I got to spend it sorting this mess out. I wonder what other surprises are waiting for me when I get to the actual game play?
EDIT:
Ah yes, it seems that my last level checkpoint save has also gone AWOL and I get to start it from the beginning. Nice.
In the settings of the game there should be an option to change the games text and spoken language. have you checked if those settings may have been changed?

Well, it’s a bit too late for me since I already went through the whole reinstallation thingy, but hopefully that piece of information will be of use to the OP.
And just for future reference, that thing is hidden under ‘optionen & karriere’ / einstellungen / audio / sprachen ändern.
I did find my way into that settings (einstellungen) menu, but it never occurred to me to look for language settings under audio. Kind of hard to miss now that I know it’s there, but as I expected to find it under gameplay I totally missed that on my way to the gameplay settings where it obviously wasn’t.
I still don’t understand why the update installer picked german language instead of sticking with the language that was already selected before the update, i.e. english in my case. Well, deutsch seems to come before english in the language choices.
Anyway, thanks for the info!
