Everyone wants classic Halo MP

Ever since 343 took over the reigns of the Halo franchise their #1 goal has been to “modernise” Halo.

Everywhere you go on the forums you hear “Halo needs X mechanic to stay relevant”. “If the game didn’t have Y the game would feel dated”. etc

Well, 343 took Halo and made Halo 4. A game with every modern bell and whistle you could ever imagine. Killstreaks, loutdouts, perks, sprint, hit markers, grenade indicators, no skill based ranking, etc. This game’s MP was a ghost town. This thread is not to discuss why this happened

So what is 343 doing? They’re removing a lot of it. Halo 5 is way closer to classic Halo than Halo 4 was. How is this not bad? A couple years ago everyone was telling us you couldn’t have a shooter in this day and age without custom loudouts or killstreaks or perks? Where is the backlash for the removal of these elements if they all so incredibly vital to the survival to Halo?

There is none. Everyone is incredibly excited!!

if moving closer to classic Halo is getting people excited, why not just go the whole way? We’ve already seen that Halo obviously does not need “modern” elements and that in fact it struggles when they are introduced. If the game didn’t need loudouts, perks or killstreaks to stay relevant why does it need sprint and ADS? Will people be equally excited if those mechanics are removed for Halo 6?

Classic Halo was innovative…

Just saiyin, Halo 2 was very differant to CE, and halo 3 was mostly different to Halo 2. But I am glad you voiced your opinion in an appropriate manner. Thank You

No they don’t Halo does not need to be stripped back down to basics barebones. I love Halo and the older Halo’s are great for their age the MCC is a welcome addition to the X1 library so I can chill and play those games when I feel like some old school Halo. If 343 were to just make Halo 1, 2 or 3 again but with prettier graphics I would be pissed I don’t want to play the exact same game over and over again. Halo needs to move forward not stay stagnant it needs to throw down something new to the table or get left behind Halo 5 is moving in the right direction.

Don’t try to speak for me.

I want a game that feels new while it also respects the old. Halo 5 does that very well.

That.

OP you’ll probably find it fascinating that there actually is something called a reasonable middle-ground.

While opinions what that middle-ground should look like might vary… most people don’t want a carbon copy of old Halo while not they don’t want something completely unfamiliar at the same time.

What he said

I probably would have stopped playing Halo’s multiplayer by now if it had just stayed the same as Halo 2 all these years. The refusal to change anything ever is what destroys good franchises. CoD used to be awesome, but now every new installment is just a fancy re-skinned version of Modern Warfare.

People aren’t excited about Halo 5 because it’s closer to classic gameplay, that’s a gross oversimplification. Halo 4 simply strayed too far by having things like loadouts and ordinance. There was basically no such thing as balance in Halo 4’s multiplayer, and that randomness was the main complaint about it. Halo 5 is back to equal starts, but while still incorporating some of the new features that people liked in a way that is completely balanced (everybody has the exact same abilities all the time).

I’m not happy because it’s getting closer to classic gameplay, I’m happy because it’s back to being a balanced test of skill.

But the direction halo 5 is moving in is towards classic halo. You are contradicting yourself.

If you support modernisation of halo why are you not upset about the changes h5 has made from h4. These changes including massively stripping down “modern” mechanics for more traditional mechanics. This game is moving in the opposite direction you support.

Why is nobody upset by this? Why is everyone(other than people that still feel it is too far from classic halo) excited for halo 5?

So halo 4 did not respect the old?

Or did you not support halo 4?

Those are the same things.

I don’t, i miss the Halo 5 beta, i miss the novelty of learning new moves and combos. Im already bored of the classic formula from playing TMCC so much… i need a break.

Halo 4 was an arcade shooter–IE a game that spawned people unequally. So no it didn’t respect classic Halo.

No it isn’t. “Skill” is not synonymous with “classic Halo.” I know Quake players that would absolutely laugh at any Halo player, no matter the game. But what matters is that Halo 5 respects the classic style while adding new spins on it. It’s familiar but different enough to make it worthy of a being a new installment in the franchise.

A bit too generalizing, no?

Well, definitely not as much as Halo 5 is doing. 5 is definitely a closer homage than 4 was, which is why people are getting happy.

So you are glad they are dropping the modern mechanic of custom loudouts and returning to traditional Halo, equal spawns?

So people are happy that halo 5 is closer to traditional Halo than H4 was?

Well, the fact that it is the first important major step is as obvious as the fact that pigs cannot fly, I suppose.

That’s what he just said.
