Everyone Quits!

After a brief break, I’ve finally had some time to dive back into Halo Reach the past few days. All I want to do is play an enjoyable match. Just one. Besides the annoyance of bloom/double pummels, I found something I hated even more than those: NO ONE PLAYS THE DAMN GAME.

People quit nearly every single game. If it’s not the other team quitting, it’s my team quitting. Specifically in the MLG playlist it’s out of control. If you’re beating a team, they quit. If your team is getting beat, your teammates quit and leave you with a choice to go -20, or quit as well.

The penalties need to be harsher, I know this has been addressed before, but cR needs to be subtracted. 5k per quit, and an increase exponentially per quit/hour.

I’m sure nothing will happen, and maybe the “instant join” will fix all of this in H4.

people don’t stick around if they’re not having fun or have something important to do.

though, people who quit should have 1000+ credits taken …

I rarely ever have a game without someone on the enemy team quitting. Just because they know that they are going to lose. Or they see our ranks (Which mean pretty much nothing) and dashboard it in the lobby.

Rage-quitting is the main problem. I get a good kill, and do some celebratory crouching. People get so angry, that they quit to go and replenish the River Thames with their tears.

The quit ban should be 20 minutes, at least. 10 minutes is nothing. In fact, I’ve only been quit banned a total of 4 times since Reach’s release, and those were either because of lag, or I suddenly had a craving for fish and chips. Mostly the latter.

But my point is, they don’t get punished near enough as they should. They ruin people’s fun and waste time, and they get 10 minutes as a so called ‘punishment’?

Younger players are another problem altogether. They’re the ones who are more likely to quit. But we can’t stop a parent from buying the game for them.

This is the main problem I think. And it’s because Reach isn’t fun, it’s more frustrating than anything.

Especially Vanilla and all the Armor Locking and the randomness. A lot of my friends started playing again when the TU came out. Best thing to ever happen to Reach in my opinion. At least 343 listened, unlike Bungie who saw the wall of complaints and went “trololo deal with it rofl”.

At least the quitting will be resolved in Halo 4, with people being able to join games in progress. But then that sparks another problem that people complain about in CoD; being placed on a team seconds away from losing.

Welcome to every Halo MM game. I usually can’t go more than 2 games before someone on my team or the other team quits a game. Been like this for a long time too unfortunately.

No, we as a community can’t but 343 could if they wanted to. I’m pretty sure more parents buy Halo than GoW or Mortal Kombat for their 5 year old. This might not be true but I highly suspect it is.

I would imagine that parents don’t buy GoW or Mortal Combat because they are more violent than Halo. The point here is that 5 year olds shouldn’t play the game because they don’t play it properly (i.e. quitting early), rather than because it is too violent. I would find it difficult to persuade a parent they shouldn’t buy a game because their child doesn’t play it the way you want them to.

For punishing quitters, a reduction in credits and a quit ban is best in my opinion. It would be worth changing it from a flat rate of 5,000 credits however. Maybe take into account their rank and time left in the game? Game completion credits is based on time played and rank, so maybe a similar system could be used.

Also, I have 4,500,000 credits spare. It would be best to take any reduction out of the rank progression bar, but it should not be possible to be demoted. Although, it may not be possible or something easily done and I would rather 343i implemented a good system for Halo 4 than one for Reach.

I’m not sure how harsh the quit ban is, as I have never been put on probation or banned. But from what other people have said, it could be harsher. I would think it would be best to keep how often it is triggered the same, but make the ban times longer.

This would lead to less people quitting, but I would imagine more people would go AFK instead. If they are being soundly beaten, I doubt the Banhammer would pick up such activity as they probably had few kills to begin with anyway. It could also annoy people if they are punished if they legitimately quit, so maybe the credit reduction could be enacted alongside the quit ban. This would obviously have to be an amount which is dependent on Rank, similar to Credits earned for completion.

Well, my work here is done.

More rage quits= one sided matches

Searching with a team is the only solution but sometimes thats not possible if no one is on.

I find searching as a team worse because even more opposition players quit.

Full teams vs 1 or 2 remaining players are more boring than randy games where only 1-2 people have left off one or both teams.

But if people stop quitting I wont have anymore near losses in 4v4 turned to an incredible win in a 1v4 anymore! If your getting killed alot in a game where you have even one person who is going positive on there k/d then your causing them to lose a match they would have one by themselves. Better to quit with small negative than to wait until youve died 25 times with only one kill. You know what I say to people who quit on my team? thanks for the awesome 1v4 vid

Those games are also boring

However, it’s the lesser of two evils. I rather have the opposition quit than have my teammates abandon me and go negative in a 2 V 4 situation.

Perhaps if you quit, you do not earn cR the next game you play…

Quit 2 in a row, you don’t get cR the next 2 games…

Regardless, people are still going to quit, but atleast they will be punished. Now there is nothing to stop them from doing it… (and 10 minute probation is not punishment)

A lot of time I quit because, just like Bungie, no one monitors the modders, and they ruin the game. So I quit. Why play 10 minutes with a guy that takes impossible damage, groups that respawn together, or DMRs that get perfect headshots from across the map on a moving target?

I agree. The only times I ever quit are when people vote for Hockey, Hemorrhage (sometimes), or spawn kill. Other than that, I don’t quit for the most part.

“Welcome to Reach.”

I honestly doubt anyone in the MLG playlist would care about a cR penalty.

I’ll tell you what people tell me, play with friends, then you won’t have to deal with quitting.

> people don’t stick around if they’re not having fun

This is the crux of the problem. I play mainly BTB and the sad truth is that at least half the maps lend them selves really well to the stronger team demolishing the weaker team on spawn.

Paradiso/Utopie is the worst with the ability to set up on the hill and pick off anyone the banshee fails to kill off the predictable spawn points. But there are several others where spawn traps are almost impossible to break out of. Breaking a spawn trap requires team work, individual skill and a smattering of luck, something that the average random gamer can not expect from his seven random team mates.

Therefore I think poor map design is a factor in people quitting. Spawning only to die almost instantly due to poor map design is not fun by anyone’s standards. People do not buy a game to be somebody else’s whipping boy.

343 design teams would be well served to play some games vs really organised, ruthless teams (such as the French BTB clans) on their halo 4 maps so that they can see what awaits the average casual gamer. then they will know EXACTLY why people quit and change the maps accordingly.

I agree, it seem’s that people have been quitting alot more lately than ever before, I don’t know why…
