Everyone, please calm down!

I know the GDC panel was not something a good majority of the masses wanted to hear but being immature about it and insulting the mods who locked the thread isn’t the right way to go about it. We need to be able to have a proper debate (or at least, some of us) without adding in derogatory words. This isn’t doing any of us good except adding more fuel into a very out-of-control fire.

I’m more upset about the moderators seeming to lock every single thread concerning negative aspects over 343i, even when they have good debate value. The excuse 95% of the time is, “The conversation value in this thread has gone downhill.” How about instead of deleting a perfectly good thread they just ban the users who are being idiots in the thread? No, because one kid in the class spoke during quiet time, the teacher decides the whole class gets detention. We loved those type of teachers as kids… oh wait, no we didn’t.

Not only that but it seems the moderators here always have to have the last word and say something mildly confrontational because they know no other users can post after them.

For example, I just saw a mod lock a thread and end their post with, “This thread is mine. Cleanup inbound.” He probably thinks he’s a badass now.

Eventually this will all die down and they’ll all return, I’m not happy with it but I’m not about to start flaming the living daylights out if it

Yeah I think the monitors have a Over kill, except in locking.

> For example, I just saw a mod lock a thread and end their post with, “This thread is mine. Cleanup inbound.” He probably thinks he’s a badass now.

Nope. Just making sure it’s crystal clear that threads like that don’t fly. If you have an issue, feel free to PM us or take it up to admin.

Why bother, it’s not like any of the members who do nothing but post hateful comments, and don’t leave correct format feedback are anything but spoiled little children who all need a major timeout.

Ah, who am I kidding, a time out isn’t good enough… How about an old fashioned smoking! Make everyone push until they fill up a family sized paper plate with sweat!

Also food for thought. Moderator’s locking threads has nothing to do with them silencing you or censoring your opinion(s). They have their own opinions, and some of them may have the same opinions as you, and don’t lock threads because the are 343i hate threads, hell, if that was true, you really think there’d be a few pages of unlocked threads!? Instead of using that empty space between your ears to sit there and come up with reasons why they would want to silence you, maybe you should use your brain to think of the true reasons, like maybe you thread turned into a flame fest?

Wasn’t this thread just locked a minute ago?

That’s the problem. What don’t you understand? The moderators should be neutral. They shouldn’t be locking threads because they have their own opinions about them. The thread is also an opinion. Who’s to say they should lock an opinion down if they don’t agree with it? The opinion could still be valid.

“Oh hey, I’m a Torontonian referee in a Toronto Maple Leafs game vs. the Montreal Canadiens. In my opinion, that trip by the Leafs was accidental, so I’m not going to call a penalty on it. I think that trip by the Canadiens was on purpose though, so let me call a penalty now.” A trip is a trip, you call the penalty if it’s accidental or not. An opinion is an opinion. You don’t lock a thread because your opinion is different…

They’re not locking them because of opinions. They’re locking them because rules are broken. They’re doing their job.

I was replying to the person who claimed they were locking them because they have different opinions. I was referring earlier to threads containing completely valid points of debate being locked.

You completely missed my point. Thanks, though.

If you have a disagreement with any of the moderators, feel free to send us a pm.

They might start that way, but when it gets out of hand because of the people posting in it and they’re breaking the rules, then it gets locked. Don’t blame the Moderators for what the “community” does.

Dude, there are some things I would LOVE to say about what you just said, but I really don’t feel like another ban.

No I’m saying “Mods have their own opinions, but that’s not why they’re locking your threads”, This is part of the reason the community sucks, is because you guys read too much into things, or misunderstand something stated. I’ve never said that the mods lock threads because their opinions oppose the opinions of the threads.

Even though I feel like an idiot for doing so, I will admit you’re right. I misread your post earlier. I apologize. I was never trying to be rude to you, though. I don’t understand why you would like to say things to me that could get you banned.

What about my point of banning the people who are creating the stupid posts in these legitimate threads? I hate to see a 25 page thread with 20 pages of good points get locked because five of those pages were garbage.

Maybe the mods should refrain from curtailing good discussion because they perceive the thread as a flame war when actually it’s just one or two people going at eachother. Tends to send the wrong signals. By that, I mean it is heavily implied that any dissenting discussion is discouraged because in all honesty this thread was relatively tame. The locking of this thread seems more akin to discouraging criticism (and well-needed criticism at that) rather than stopping a flame war.

Mods need to learn to let reasonably candid discussion take place, and not lock everything at the first sign of trouble. I remember why I left this site the first time now. Of course, you have mods like [CLASSIFIED] who insult (however inadvertently) community members at public events, so I guess we really shouldn’t expect much. Not like the mods here have really wowed me to begin with. They’ve always been lock/ban-happy.

Ha. Haha.

Can’t say I didn’t call that.

This shows you know the rules, but choose not to follow them. Moderation practices aside, be accountable for YOUR actions, please, and worry less about others.
