Everyday Spartan Life (ex. Washroom, eating, etc)

We seen how advanced the Mjlonr suits are. We seen the Spartans in their prime (ex. fighting and strategic planning). But do Spartans ever do any human things?

  • Eating - Using the washroom - Fraternizing (ex. chit-chat, having fun, ‘adult’ things) - Have hobbies?I’d love to see a more humanistic side of the Spartans (especially the IIs and IIIs)

OF COURSE.

I’d recommend reading Halo: Escalation comics, etc.

There is this thing called R&R, you know? Also who do you think Spartans are? They aren’t machines, they also have a human side, especially Spartans-IV as they were normal people before they have gotten into Spartan-IV program…

I thought it was obvious Spartans DO these things as well…

Spartan IVs are pretty much just enhanced humans, they still need and want to do all the normal things they normally did.
So they eat, drink, sleep, go the bathroom, have -Yoink!- etc. They are still human, just enhanced.
II’s on the other hand would usually go into Cryo when they were not needed(To prolong their usefulness), and between missions were they weren’t in Cryo, they would usually stay together or be alone as they were raised to be living weapons, not humans, so they weren’t adept as social interactions. II’s also had their sexual desire reduced a lot by the augmentations.
I am not sure about the III’s, as they were mostly killed off at Pegasi.

All Spartans have a few simular traits, like they can go longer without sleep and require less of it.
(This is just off the top of my head, and I am not sure if some of it has been retconned throughout the years)

I think the IIs and IIIs didn’t really socialise outside of their small, closely-knit groups. At the start, that would have been an effort by ONI to minimise knowledge of the Spartan program and, after that, would probably have been force of habit. Think strict military habits, as it’s all they really know about how to act. I think the only times a Spartan II or III have been expressly stated to have eaten with non-Spartans are with people who gained their respect (Sergeant Forge in Halo Wars) or when they’re attempting to get information in a low-key manner (I think it was the Cole Protocol novel that had an example of that?)

The IVs would definitely have been more social and open, having lived as normal people for a lot longer. They’ve had time in normal social circles to develop habits and social skills. Most would probably have families from various colonies/Earth. Plus the Spartan IV program actively encouraged fraternization among colleagues (according to that handbook that came with the limited editions of Halo 4), as long as they filed the correct paperwork.

But yeah, I’d like to see some Spartan downtime in short-story format. Give us a story about a group of Spartan IVs who just got back from a mission with a II or III, inviting them to go get something to eat at the mess hall, and being utterly surprised at how formal and machine-like they are. Give us a tale from a Spartan II’s perspective of how noisy and obnoxious they find the IVs when they’re off duty, and how they just don’t get a lot of social queues.

I wonder how they poop and pee with those suits on? There’s no zipper and from what I’ve seen you have to dismantle the Armour to get it off…

Built-in colostomy bags of course!

Why am I imagining the Master Chief jumping on his bed in a unicorn costume!?

I would be disappointed if Chief didn’t have a unicorn onesie lol.

They go on vacation?

Lulz I’m confused

The novels have a lot of great info on this part of Spartan behavior. The Flood (novelization of Halo: CE) describes Chief eating nutrition bars between missions and how the ODSTs talk about the S-IIs. There are a lot of good tidbits in there about their humanity. The Kilo Five books are also really good with this. You get an idea of what the augmentations did to them physically and how they handle their business in the MJOLNIR. The augmentations eliminated their -Yoink!- drives and the armor handles all of their bodily functions via catheterization. There’s a lot of good interaction between Naomi, ODSTs, command, and regular soldiers.

Long story short, a lot of this is covered in the extended universe.

  1. Yes, but mostly rations
  2. They use the restroom in their armor.
  3. No, not really. (Spartan IIs and IIIs)
  4. Some have hobbies

I don’t think they have a need for such things to be honest.
Their bodies are made to be efficient and I assume their amour would supplement most of this.
In regards to hobbies they were bred for war so they have no need haha.

MJOLNIR armor has a catheter for urine and somehow disposes of solid and liquid waste.

Hobbies? HaHaHa! You mean killing the enemy right?

YES it would give them more background and help us relate to them

Majestic team in Spartan Ops were bragging about keeping the ladies…“safe and secure”.
Also, claimed dibs on Sarah Palmer.

I think RVB do it best expressing what UNSC military does when they aren’t fighting Lol

I assume in a spartans off time it’s very similar to military deployment off time so, eat a hot meal, workout, sleep, eat a hot meal, train, get a mission briefing, standby for upcoming mission, go out on mission, return and have mission debriefing, repeat. Probably some crew rest time as well for when there aren’t as many combat sorties, in which case they probably just train and workout.

Now I think of it, at the introduction of Spartan ops, those male Spartan IVs on Fireteam Majestic gave some ladies in Rio some peace and comfort. The Jamaican woman on their team seemed to shrug it off.

I wonder about the former Spartan IIs who ended up having kids. I take anti-anxiety meds, and the -Yoink!- drive goes to zero. Hard to have kids when the drives are eliminated.

Still, I wonder during long missions whether the Spartan IIs and IIIs just take a eat of a grunt. Yum…

ahem fall of reach ahem ahem
