Every Tuesday like clockwork… Every game has at least one quitter. Most games have several quitters.
Is this what 343 wants? Because it’s their challenge system that is causing it. Players join a game, see it isn’t what they need to complete a challenge, and then quit. It is impossible to play a game without quitters when the weekly challenges are updated every Tuesday.
My guess is that more and more quit and go play something else. People can only deal with this kind of frustration for so long before they just leave.
343 needs to change how the challenge system works so that it doesn’t actually encourage people to quit games.
Might help a little, but games these days are plagued with quitters and we’d still be dealing with them all the time. People don’t go into games trying to be a good teammate, they often just care about themselves and will willing throw everyone under the bus if they don’t get what they want.
Realistically I don’t think that will ever happen. It needs to be inconvenient to a degree to push swap sales. I’ve made my peace with this much.
What I believe is a better alternative solution is to grant merit based XP per match. Keep the challenges, but remove the weekly ultimate reward or replace it with something consumable. Swaps, XP grants, credits, etc.
This removes the FOMO that people hate making them feel like they have to complete challenges even when they are bad or they have already completed the BP.
Then people can complete challenges to advance their BP even further if they choose without the fear of missing out on cosmetics.
I doubt the challenge swaps are that profitable to begin with or people wouldn’t be quitting at this rate to get around spending them. I would also bet that the vast majority of the challenge swaps at are being spent come out of the paid battle passes and not through direct purchases from the store. The notion that 343 would ever make a substantial profit from the challenge swaps was ill-conceived from the start.
If they brought back something like mcc where you can simply pick what game type you want to play, it would make big difference to amount of quitters.
I always stay whatever game type loads as don’t want to disrespect other players, challenges unlock anyway, not in any hurry to complete them, just there to have fun
Quitters were pretty bad in MCC as well… Which is why I always try to push people into putting at least some effort into forming parties before queuing up for matches.
Yes it is a bit of a problem. I’ll never quit for a challenge, as I play for fun and use the challenge system to sort of guide my playlist selection. I’m not going to get worked up over a silly cosmetic item.
However, as I said, I play for fun. For this reason I almost always quit launch site because that map is almost never fun. I’ll play fiesta on it, otherwise I’m out. Unless I happen upon a CTF challenge and one flag shows up, but even then it is a toss up.
I don’t think I’ve played a single game in months where someone hasn’t quit. Sometimes multiple times in the same game. I remember it happening in MCC/H5/all the others, but I don’t ever remember it being nearly this bad. The challenge system needs to stop encouraging that behavior.
I quit one game a long time ago. I was in a slayer match and my team could not kill the other players, grenades, and rocket launchers had no effect, finally, everyone on my team quit, so I was not going to stick around and be slaughtered. Furthermore, I was in a fiesta match, and my team we were spawning with plasma pistols and sidekicks, the other side kept spawning with rocket launchers and gravity hammers it was a slaughter fest, but we stayed. People shouldn’t quit, don’t leave your teammates down a player, but I understand the impulse to get out when you’re getting destroyed. I think especially new players when they enter a match and are pretty much just fresh meat for anyone, it can be soul-destroying and in many cases, they will not try again and that’s too bad. In some cases, network and hit detection are so bad, that all you can do is run and wait for the nightmare to be over.
I love it and hope it continues till they get rid of their challenge system. Everybody in their right mind told them since the first flight that specific game mode challenges will ruin the gameplay for them and others.
I never thought of that as being the reason they quit. Makes sense. But then there’s 2 big reasons people quit. Obviously your reasoning is one, and two is so they can downrank/rank in a lower tier using an alternate account (Usually I see quitters with a low gamer score and few Halo Infinite games played).
Every time I see a trashcan Onyx player they are with someone ranked Gold or Platinum who plays much better they most other Gold/Platinum players.
Quitters have always been a rather regular thing in Halo, in my experience.
That said though, I will come clean and say that if I have a Challenge (say, Win Tactical Slayer matches) and its pretty clear that my team is gonna lose the match, particularly early on, then I’ll quit.
Hell, I did it today. Had a Tactical/Sidekicks match that the other team got like nearly 10 kills ahead in 30 seconds so I quit.
Had a good string of other victories but with 3/4 Tactical Slayer Wins and my Double XP Boost having run out, just gonna stop right there, move on to my other Challenges like 5k Scoring in Team Slayer, get as close as I can, then also stop and wait until tomorrow when I activate my next Double XP Boost and get the Daily XP on top of my completed Challenges.
Oh yeah, I’ve seen plenty of losing games turned around by mid-joining players - both in my favor and not in my favor, lol. A couple times I turned games around.
My most memorable one was an Oddball game where my team lost the first round, two left, were replaced by bots, and SOMEHOW me and the only guy left managed to win it.
I mean the other team lost a guy too and had a bot and holy moley I couldn’t believe it and it made me shut up about bots at least for a little while.
They could just make challenges that aren’t so specific. I’d rather have a challenge to play 10 quick play matches than have to win 2 oddball games. Or even play 5 BTB matches instead of play 1 total control match.
But we all know why such a simple solution won’t happen - because it doesn’t encourage players to buy challenge swaps. A lot of the baffling decisions in this game make sense when you follow the money.
I think the problem is getting the mode you need for a challenge, i had 4 capture the flag challenges and played more than 10 games and didnt even get 1 game of ctf. They need to just make a playlist like team objective rather than throughing all them modes in to quick play
