In the E3 demo we heard Buck voice the following concerns:
“Every other spartan, every soldier, when they hear about this, they’re going to hate us. You know that right?”
in previous Halo games, Marines and Spartans were always happy and eager to see you, whooping with joy that “the cavalry has arrived!”. Based on what Buck said, I think it will be interesting to see how friendly AI react to Osiris. We already saw the Arbiter was less than excited about them Hunting down Chief. How will the soldiers who owe their lives to Chief, who look upto him will feel when they learn ‘you’ (as Osiris) are looking for him will treat you could make for some great dialogue and tense exchanges. I think it would be refreshing to run into a group of marines who rather than being excited to see you, will barely be able to hide their disgust. Not saying they will shoot you, but just be less than the happy and compliant troopers we are used to.
I don’t think it will change gameplay much. Probably be some audio clips or perhaps something shown in cutscenes. But I think Buck’s statement is that IF they hunted down and got Master Chief and IF people found out, then people would hate them.

That whole scheme was to get Giraud out of his hole. Then once Giraud started to reveal the truth, ONI came out and said oh chief actually saved the day and Del Rio did a 180.

Yeah, DropzofCrimson reminded me of that above. That could very well cause the scenario of the OP. Chiefs status as the hero of the galaxy is only going to be enhanced and if they find out Locke and his team are hunting him because he’s gone AWOL…that could be very uncomfortable for them

Yes I agree partially it can be harsh to wish for someone to die if they are real. To wish for a video game character to die however not so much haha

To be fair, the things you are saying about hoping Chief dies have no relevance to this topic.
On topic: I don’t think they will go as far as seeing distaste in marines. It appears to be a relatively private conversation between Buck and Locke. In fact, I’m not even sure there will be many marines in the campaign. Having a four person squad at all times kind of eliminates the need, and in all of the campaign footage I’ve seen so far it shows Locke with the SoS. Maybe that’s why he is with the SoS, so that the rest of the UNSC won’t hate the fireteam or know about their intent.

There is a lot of animosity towards a person who can do what they cant, and who seems so huge and beyond their scope. Some people will use that and any thing they see as a negative to attack them, human nature at its finest.
