There is almost no point in using a semi-auto gun on a small map
Especially in rumble pit/ multi-team on haven

Using Long-Range weapons on a CQC map won’t get you far
you’re not using your DMR correctly if you expect to win all Close Quarters engagements
Agreed. In every Halo before if one hit every shot with a precision weapon @ every range EXCEPT for melee range, the precision weapon user won. In Halo:CE it was difficult to 3sk with the pistol but the potential to do so always existed. Precision weapons in H4 should have the ability to win @ every range except melee range, but it should require a great amount of skill to do so. I don’t understand where this mentality of “using the right weapon at the right range” came from as Halo has always rewarded the mastering of precision weapons.
I’m pretty iffy on this.
They are very easy to use and very powerful at close range.
But they get dominated by rifles at medium to long range, and the game lets you have both in the same loadout.
Matchmaking has playlists that force everyone to spawn with precision rifles, so it’s not a huge issue at the moment regardless.
If you don’t like automatics you can always play Rumble Pro, Doubles Pro, Throwdown…
Should they be as powerful as they are at close range? Perhaps not, but having them in the game just for the sole purpose of being a crutch for new players leaves little purpose for actually having them in the game to begin with.

Thank you for the intelligent reply. This is the situation halo is in as a franchise, essentially make the “vets” learn a new type of game while catering to the “noobs”, Or cater to the noobs who will abandon your game in a few days anyway…To me the choice seems easy make a game for the people who stick around and have enjoyed the franchise since halo:ce

Then don’t. Better yet, if you really want to use a semi-auto gun, use the magnum. The auto guns are not OP. If 343 actually tones down the auto aim and bullet magnetism of the utility rifles like many are asking, then perhaps they’ll need a nerf.

You have a point. All these changes were done in favor for fast paced gameplay.
The br shoots fast, but is now a five shot kill
The dmr shoots faster than the Br and is a 5 shot kill as well
Assault rifles do a lot of damage and it is even worse when people charge you or jump towards you
Sprint was added
The magnum shoots faster
Stopping power is useless against sword sprinter
AND THE THING THAT HAS TRULY LED TO QUICK AND EASY DEATH AND KILLS: THATS RIGHT THE RIDICULOUS AIM ASSIST.
I have been playing Halo for 8 years now. I see nothing wrong with how the game plays with automatics, and considering I play with the AR/Sup on some objective types because I find it more affective I really don’t see the “skill” difference. Halo has always been about having the right tool at the right time.

You’re right since everyone can spawn with a BR or DMR. This is why we need a classic playist with those weapons on the map instead of loadouts. I don’t know about the rest of you but those games in H3 always seemed more frantic to me. When I spawned with an AR I was always looking for the closest BR/PW spawn. If nothing was around I just had to make due until something popped up.

No.

why, it may not function as it was intended, but they wanted faster gameplay and that is why it was added

It should honestly be the other way around. All 3 of the automatic loadout weapons sit nicely between the SAW and Shotgun as a semi-power weapon similar to the Concussion Rifle or Boltshot.
The automatics are too powerful and limiting to be the only choices off-spawn. It would absolutely annihilate movement on smaller maps due to players wanting to keep encounters at a close range. It’s similar to spawning with just a Shotgun, but not as extreme.
