This isn’t really a Halo 6 story discuss thread. We know he is going to be the main character for the next 3 Halo games because -Yoink!- won’t abandon their most iconic hero.
What would be a suitable end for the Chief?
Personally, I think he HAS to die. If he doesn’t, I will be extremely disappointed. I’ve never wished death on a character I’ve gotten attached to in a game/book/movie but Chief has to die. It would not be a fitting end at all to defeat the covenant/forerunners/flood/unknown enemy and then retire on some random colony world.
If Halo is going to stay true to its formula, I believe there will probably be a warthog run at the end of Halo 6.
When Halo 6 comes out, it will be several years into the next generation of consoles so the graphics and capabilities will be stunning.
I’d like the last mission to be a warthog run only instead of trying to escape a huge explosion, you are trying to deliver a nuke to the enemy fortress or something. It’s a suicide mission but just imagine how epic it would be with next gen AI battles. Covenant, UNSC, and Foreunner ships will be blowing each other up in the sky, pelicans, falcons, and long swords will be keepIng enemy fighters off of you as you drive across an exploding environment.
When you finally get to your destination, it is a similar setup to the ending of Reach where you play until you run out of health (only much greater in scale since its next gen). Then as the chief is laying on the ground dying, he detonates the nuke just like Kurt did in Ghosts of Onyx.
It doesn’t have to be exactly like that but he needs to die and a huge epic battle followed by a huge explosion would be prerable.
What do you think? Should he go out with a bang or a whimper? Or should he just retire after the war ends?
I’m not really sure, I wouldn’t like him to die because that would go all against the plot that he always wins. If 343i do kill him in Halo 6, it would need to be perfect for me to be satisfied as I’m always wary since that last series I put my heart into gave me the most dissatisfying death scene of all time.
Death of Chief. I don’t want the series to drag out forever. I want it to end as it should in Halo 6 with maybe 3 or 4 spin-offs/prequels?/remakes. Don’t milk the series like a golden cow.
I doubt it. There will probably be spinoffs and maybe reboots but I doubt the story will progress after 6. “Oh look, an even MORE ancient evil is about to rise to power.”
It has to be something that is final and won’t allow for continuation however I don’t think it should end with the death of Chief. They should come up with something original and interesting, not something unoriginal and cheesy, the death of heroes is becoming far too cliche and boring.
Too many people are expecting him to die at the end, so I want something different. The whole hero must die attitude that games have had recently is getting old.

Precursors before the ancient evil.
OT : I fully agree that it is fitting that he dies but not in a cliched way, they must NAIL it for it to work properly or it will be Mass effect all over again. Maybe his death could be shrouded in some mystery where you do not know if he is truly dead or not. Either way Master Chief retiring on a beach planet would be silly.

Or they could pull a Christopher Nolan and it was a dream of John’s all along before waking up and seeing his parents with milk and cookies before they turn into projectorfaces like that ghastly woman thing in Dead Space 2 and grab hold of him and scream “WAKE UP JOHNNN” and then he wakes up again, realizing he is in some UNSC mental hosptial somewhere.

I’m pretty sure the precursors will be evident in this new trilogy. I’m talking about before them.

I agree. I’m getting really tired of the “Herp Derp Hero dies, game is sad and deep now lol!” Also Heroes Never Die.
I agree, the Cheif has to die at the end. Not because of the whole “hero has to die” thing, I usually prefer a happy ending for the protagonist. But the Cheif doesn’t know anything but war. I couldn’t imagine him doing anything but fight until he drops dead, either from a bullet or old age.
Chief’s death must be absolutely perfect; I wont accept anything less than that.

And having him continue fighting wouldn’t be a fitting ending for such a hero. I’d much rather see Chief dying to save the entire again, rather than getting killed inevitably by some insurrectionist decades after the war.

Exactly. He deserves a big finish. It doesn’t have to be some giant planet-rocking explosion, but it should be something important, something memorable. Anything less would be a dissapointment. A monumental moment in the Halo universe.
I don’t really know how he should die, but a massive battle with lots of explosions seems so cliche it makes me sick. I think a one on one battle to the death would be a little better, maybe with a Precursor.
Also, the name of the last chapter should be “Were it so Easy” to leave a little mystery.
My Idea is that “If” Chief were to die, he’d die fighting the same way he did in Halo Legends “The Package”.
Being a Ninja is something Spartans can truly do, and its something they finally need to implement to he chief. I think it’d be nice if he were fighting off alot of Prometheans, Forerunners, or what ever he’d be fighting, or maybe just fighting 1 boss, and it’d be all CGI.
Chief runs around the corner, and gets ambushed by the Prometheans/Flood with the Timeless One in the background controlling all of them, the Chief along side the Didact, and the Arbiter are forced to fight the threat together, all 3 of them going ninja on the enemies *** they eventually come to finish the forces and fight the Timeless one, resulting in some of the most powerful and breathtaking musical CGI Based fights scenes we’ve seen to date. The Results could be unbearable, but then again, we’ll never know until we see, so I say we wait, play Halo 4 when it comes out, and find out where 343 is leading us.
